  • When fantasy and barbarian films ruled the Earth and Dungeons & Dragons was being played in every basement, DFC (Discovery For Children) bestowed upon geekdom assembled its fantabulous fantasy plastic army man playset Dragonriders of the Styx. In 1983, the followed up with 3.75" action figures that, if not as impressive as LJN's D&D figures, were immensely charming. Let's take a look!

I recently learned that there was a running gag that HBO stood for "Hey, Beastmaster's On" 😂
I didn't have HBO but my friend down the street did and I remember that Beastmaster was on ALL THE TIME!

The HBO movies I remember most from watching at a friends house were Beastmaster, Cannonball Run and the Big Red One, and we were down to watch all three of them whenever they were on.

I remember at that time it was exciting to just be able to watch a movie. Sometimes it didn't even matter if it was particularly good or if it was a genre that I was interested in. Seeing the 20th century fox, tri star, or universal logo, etc... it always felt like you were about to experience an event.

I didn't have the action figures, although I had some of the little plastic ones.

I would love to get some of the little plastic ones - they're super cool - but I just don't know what I'd ever do with them.

@@jmstater I had a blast with them as a kid, but they are lost to the past now.
