  • In this video we delve into some of the challenges faced by long-term travelers. From the difficulties of maintaining relationships on the road to the impact of travel fatigue, we'll take a deep dive into the ups and downs of this lifestyle. We'll also explore the challenges of dealing with the practicalities of taxes and healthcare while on the move. In addition, we'll cover the difficulties of holding on to friends, managing isolation in unfamiliar places and how to transition back to a "normal" life after a prolonged period of travel.
    ABOUT US:
    Welcome! We’re Andre and Lisa. A married South African couple (with some Italian roots), who have been travelling together for almost 20 years, to more than 40 countries. In 2017 we took stock of our life, made the decision to 'retire early' and gave up our professional careers and all our personal possessions in order to explore the world as full-time nomads. Over the past two years, we have been travelling through Europe with our 20-year-old Motorhome. Please subscribe to follow along and join us on our adventure!

    Hi there. Great video. We've recently travelled for a year in New Zealand (my homeland) in a moterhome. We bought an x rental, did it up a bit and sold it at profit. Its a beautiful country to travel and heaps to see and do. I think we'LL end up watching all of your amazing videos. Currently we've just embarked on a 2 year trip around Europe.

      Thank you for your comment! We would LOVE to travel New Zealand by motorhome (in fact it was our plan for the end of 2020). We just hit our 2 year mark now in Europe and it's been quite the adventure! All the best for your trip and perhaps we see you on the road somewhere!

    Watching you two I can't help thinking how lucky you both are that you've found a seemingly perfect partner in each other. I don't know if you guys ever fight but you two really look like each other's proverbial "other half." Good for you!

    This was really helpful. Well mostly. 'My' section was mostly just funny 🤭 I was thinking more along the lines of (Lisa) do you favour pants+t-shirts more than dresses/skirts in terms of what is practical everyday on the road (in your videos we see you in dresses a lot but is that fairly standard?)
    You do realise that once the uni year gets back under way I probably will fall WAY behind with your videos again tho? I won't mean to but when I get buried with work and school...
    But while I still have some time I really should check out your website a bit more. Sounds like there's more there than what my brief glance found.
    Oh, and have you guys thought about driving thru Turkey? It's an amazing and fascinating country and would definitely give you that feel like in Asia where everything is so different (no gelato though)

    • @WeWillNomad
      @WeWillNomad  Рік тому +2

      You really have me thinking how about my wardrobe choices... I feel like I never wear dresses! I'm totally a jeans gal but always think a dress looks nicer 😝
      We DEFINITELY want to take Milli to Turkey... for a nice long trip though. And even though we have only spent a week in Istanbul and it took me a while to realise it, Turkish ice-cream is delicious! And it doesn't melt in the heat!
      Hope you'll still find time to say hi every now and then and good luck for the new year of studies!

      @@WeWillNomad thanks hon, after slogging thru 1 unit over the summer I feel like I need that 😏
      And this is why I wanted to know what you usually wear vs YT wear 🤭 now you understand my curiosity; I know I pretty much live in pants when backpacking but seeing what you wear in videos I wondered if it's different for vanlife (altho I admit to a proclivity for what I call skirt dresses - dresses that can be worn as skirts, especially if have shirred bodice).
      I never tried Turkish icecream, we were there in the fall (going into winter) and it was cold and wet, so it was Turkish Apple tea (and felafel) all the way.
      And yes, Turkey is addictive - we spent a lot longer there than intended - locals are friendly, history and language fascinating, nature beautiful (and downright gobsmacking in places). Oh, and Turkish rock is surprisingly good.

    • @WeWillNomad

    Andre & Lisa - Thank you both so much for making this video. You have addressed or answered so many of my questions. We all have a different set of circumstances and requirements but a lot of our concerns are similar. One topic that I was hesitant to raise with you was on the Tax residency question. Another one was about having an address. Cos, as you say so many organisations expect you to have current address. In Europe the Tax authorities use this domiciliation rule, i.e. if you are domiciled (resident) in a country for more than n number of days in the year then that country wants to tax you. Obviously, Uncle Sam thinks its special and feels it has the right to tax you no matter where in the world you reside in any given tax year. I digress.... I am still not quite there, but your advice and knowledge sharing has been a great help to me/us. I would like to simplify our life so getting rid of our property is one of the things that I think we need to do, but then I was thinking should we look at buying a relatively cheap property somewhere in the country where we want to be recognised as being domiciled for tax reasons and it also gives us that option of staying there for a while if we got tired of travelling. But, it would probably be a redundant asset for the most part. The only real reason we would buy it is for the residency and address issues. And... to a smaller degree as a place to stay at if we wanted to stop travelling for a while.
    Anyhow, wonderful; video, please stop reading my mind. Go get yourself a white shirt Andre, black is so last year........😉

    • @WeWillNomad
      @WeWillNomad  Рік тому

      Thanks Ronan... Another shade of black perhaps, but definitely not white!! 😂
      We have a very similar discussion fairly frequently. For us it always comes back to the fact that there are alternative ways around "obtaining" a domicile address for practical purposes only. When it comes to taking a break from travelling for a while (which is definitely necessary), our conclusion is that at this stage we don't necessarily want to feel obliged to do this repeatedly in one single place. There are so many places where one can affordably and comfortably take rest for a couple of months while also taking advantage of location and season to suit. Either way, it's still fun to think about!

    I love your videos... We are fellow South African also travelling. We identify with so many of your comments and experiences. We recently left Spain and are spending some time in Mauritius until we figure out our next move. I have one question... how do you manage to stay in Europe for so long? What kind of visas are you on?

    • @WeWillNomad
      @WeWillNomad  Рік тому

      Hi Helene, thanks for your message! Our secret visas are Italian passports! 😜 But these days there are a few "retirement visas" available across Europe you could consider. The options keep changing and improving. Enjoy Mauritius, we would love to spend some more time there again one day!

    Hey I found your location finder and have shared it with a lot of people and I just happened to stumble on this video by chance. I have a suggestion perhaps you could do a van swap somebody in the States who's ready to travel around Europe with a van You could do some sort of a swap of vans.

    • @WeWillNomad
      @WeWillNomad  Рік тому +1

      this is so cool. 😋 Don't think we've ever found (never mind spoken) to someone who have used the location finder on our website 😂 Thanks for your comment! Van swapping can be a thing to consider for sure, but it's our 'home' after all so it can be tricky.

    I am glad you’ve answered my questions. As we are getting …. Matured, we (me and my husband) are relying more relevance on friendships. In former times, we took it as granted, in Brasil, but in Europe is a little bit different. As you said, the language skill is a barrier, but we can use a bottle of wine to break the wall. Kkkk
    I’ll keep following all your steps.

    For Lofoten road trip 1)Narvik to à and à back to Narvik
    2)Bodo to Bognes to Svolvaer to à then back to Bodo.
    Which round better ?
    1 or 2
    15 March Motorhome

      Hi Andrew! Good to hear from you, we were just wondering when your trip is planned for. 15 March is just around the corner now!
      To be honest, we can't give you much advice as we never made it that far north. If you have the time and don't mind / want to have the added ferry experience, then the roundtrip would probably be nicer that back and forth along the same route. But sure you will thoroughly enjoy either! It's still going to be VERY cold that time of the year! We look forward to hearing all about it. 😊
