Why are you assuming people don't know? If anything, it's probably one of the songs someone has written that was performed by someone else where the highest number of people actually do know who wrote it.
I disagree, it's like telling a story - and a lot of people are amazing storytellers who don't need to invent new stories - just like Ingjerd Moi is an amazing singer without having to write new music. The most important part of music is music.
