On the topic of major acts doing interviews in this age, the issue is that content creators and the 24 hour pop culture news cycle will have a frenzy with it and distort them. A lot of multimedia (music, movies, sports, etc.) is getting diminished because of the over saturation of their products that comes from UA-cam and social media.
They right about the entitlement. The music can speak for itself. If the artist wants to do a long sit down interview they can, but there's no _need_ to. They have tools at their disposal if they want to get more personal with their fans.
@@justentime4U Paying homage. Part of the allure of pac was the way he speaks. He had so much passion and charisma when he spoke on issues. Even in some of his song, just him talking was powerful.
This topic is 🔥🔥. Ice has a great point: there are some people that only want to release art and not give any of themselves to the public. That's fine. Release your music under a pseudonym, boom problem solved. Yes some artist want to have a mystic relationship with their fans and only do things every blue moon. (Mj, prince, Kendrick) but all of them earned it. That place music culture is earned. Elliot makes a great point, it's amazing to see our favorite artist first interview on a platform like the breakfast club and be able to go back years later and watch it. And appreciate their growth and the nostalgia that comes with remembering those times. It's amazing, almost like a high. For example (to Ishs point): I love Mac Miller. It's amazing watching him on Breakfast Club getting played my charlamange and then his next couple of appearances on the BC you can see his maturity and evolution as an artist/person and also with his relationship with the cast. Without these interviews, I wouldn't have the same connection with Mac. Music does that to a certain point, but interviews are almost just as important. You don't want to hear about artist we love from STRANGERS. We wanna hear it from the artist themselves. And when they are gone their interviews are forms of art, because they are in 'character'. We want to feel and see our investment paying off. Good music and bad interviews/ bad social media presence can derail a career faster than bad music, at least the way things are today. Artist can comeback from a 'bad' project, how many can comeback from a bad press run. Elliot is ultimately right. If you don't want anyone else chirping about you, go do interviews and tell your truth, own your story. And when you do, you gotta go to the culture media, not rolling stone and billboard (to joes point)

Elliot's been doing this for decades. He definitely does deep dive interviews. Nipsey Hussle's best interviews imo leading up to his death are with Rap Radar.
@@jaykristian745 i believe you . definitely haven’t watched enough but i really do believe interviews are such a key moment with the RIGHT person. fans love that shit i love that shit
I agree with Elliott on the interview portion. People say that nobody is listening to radio, but those classic interviews have staying power even after the song is out of rotation. Listening to an artist on a song is one thing, but hearing who they are outside of a record is just as impactful.
Elliot is right. I wanna know what inspired your new album. I wanna know your creative process. Billie Eilish is arguably as big as Drake and she always gives these kinds of interviews.
I don’t know who any of these people other than Joe are for, but I think Elliot has validity in that people can appreciate defining interviews/ journalism. Narduwar gave us some of our favorite moments with artists. Even genius breakdowns can show depth. Nobody’s entitled to anyone’s private life, but it doesn’t hurt artists to still have a controlled interview of their design/comfort level
To be effective in communications, you MUST know your audience. In the case of Drake battling with Kendrick, apparently he didn't know his audience. Kendrick is intellectual, researcher, & he is a lyrical genius with great substance. Kendric is highly respected & he continues to influence culture. Good luck with trying to take down a Titan!
Good point about the artist, allowing you to see the art, but not having them being displayed as art on other outlets. But there’s good points to be made both ways doing interviews and not doing interviews.
Not really. For example. Beyoncé hasn’t done an interview in upteen years and she has yet to decline. Once an artist develop a fanbase and remain consistent with their artistry the people are locked in for life.
Exactly he's an r&b artist that's why he lost he battled a hip hop artist he never had a chance because what drake does is totally different than what kdot does drake was out his lane

Yes you need interviews! Some of these artist not realllllly artist and the face they don’t have to interview allows them to continue to milk the game. That’s why when Drake do an interview with Bobbi and it’s cringe we look at the person and artist different. I see what Elliot was saying.

@@ethanmaddy8992 after doing the 4 to discuss control he did the 1 before the espys that has never been released then the 1 with Elliot n no more of note since then
I think it depends on what the artist built their career on. Danny Brown built his career on being very open and honest about drug addiction while MF DOOM built his career around being very secretive.
I totally understand what Elliot is saying about a career defining interview. It doesn't even have to be an interview but just a look at the process. It could be 20mins of seeing drake grinding in the studio . We loved watching the Dreamville docs because it showed the art come to life. It might be nice to see Drake attempt to do the same thing. We don't need to know what Adonis is up to all lol just show us the writing process the beat selection, the feature selection, whatever!
I totally agree with Ish. The level of mystique is a huge part of what made ppl megastars. Now you got celebrities managing their own PR via social media - people start to see who they really are or a side they don’t like & their brand suffers. JLO is a perfect example. The idea that Jenifer Lopez would be so disrespected online 15-20yrs ago… These stars were untouchable. Now, even Rihanna can get it.

@@dartiswright4925yeah fax. In this era, it feels like it’s easier to detect if certain stars are corny. There’s no way to really know a person through a smartphone screen but sometimes the general public’s intuition be on point.

Nahh Elliott is DEFINITELY better than Envy 😂😂😂
@@GrooveGod256 the way they just had to check his emotion on not getting an interview! Smh. Envy.
@@NyhnaLaw I don't blame him. He wasn't the OV-HOE snitch 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Colorism still runs deep I see
Keep That Same Energy
Facts. Think about Nipsey interviews R.I.P. as well
Another example is Boosie
“I wanna say for the record the Drake Rap Radar interview was 5yrs ago. It was the last great rap interview. Fuck anything that came after that”
*Cut to Joe*
Joe - 🤨
😂😂😂 3:21
yeah, i didn’t understand that. was it a flex or a fact? or a olive branch or? if i were drake i’d see how that would be confusing to me
Lmao 😂
Might be a LOT of rappers who don't forget that 😆
Kendrick does do interviews, one of my favorites was the one with Big Boy.
That was a great convo! 💯
Hey, Drake fans ...... go find that energy yall gave J Cole when he walked away and you said he was sus for that...... Go get that energy...
the fans love when there’s deep dive interviews that’s why Zane lowe is so loved and respected cause his interviews are respectful and deep thought sessions
u said zach lowe is loved and respected.......wow
Elliot's been doing this for decades. He definitely does deep dive interviews. Nipsey Hussle's best interviews imo leading up to his death are with Rap Radar.
@@jaykristian745 i believe you . definitely haven’t watched enough but i really do believe interviews are such a key moment with the RIGHT person. fans love that shit i love that shit
Artist that are sensitive how they are perceived by the public should do interviews like Drake
I agree with Elliott on the interview portion. People say that nobody is listening to radio, but those classic interviews have staying power even after the song is out of rotation. Listening to an artist on a song is one thing, but hearing who they are outside of a record is just as impactful.
which is why Tupac is as honored as he is, while not being lyrical miracle 💯
I agree with Elliott. Every artist needs that defining interview that fans can always go back to. I am looking for that interview.
Big Boi’s last interview with Kendrick Master Class on getting the most out of the guest
Elliot is right. I wanna know what inspired your new album. I wanna know your creative process. Billie Eilish is arguably as big as Drake and she always gives these kinds of interviews.
Billie Eilish? What?
When does Kendrick do that
Elliot Wilson is Ish's dad.
A rat emoji?!
Is Drake even capable of acting like an adult?
2:25
" You ain't going to no Toronto no time soon!"
Joe: "I wasn't. Effects me none" 😅
I'm so glad emanny pushed back on Wilson's self importance
Big Boi’s last interview with Kendrick is classic
To be effective in communications, you MUST know your audience.
In the case of Drake battling with Kendrick, apparently he didn't know his audience.
Kendrick is intellectual, researcher, & he is a lyrical genius with great substance.
Kendric is highly respected & he continues to influence culture. Good luck with trying to take down a Titan!
Good point about the artist, allowing you to see the art, but not having them being displayed as art on other outlets. But there’s good points to be made both ways doing interviews and not doing interviews.
Interviews are 100% needed. Thats what builds longevity and a cult like following.. people invest in people
Not really. For example. Beyoncé hasn’t done an interview in upteen years and she has yet to decline.
Once an artist develop a fanbase and remain consistent with their artistry the people are locked in for life.
Frank ocean and playboi carti have huge cult-like level fanbases with few interviews. I dont agree.
@@10wdnyjaslim Beyoncé has declined tremendously lol
Yeah cause cult like following is exactly what this world needs right?
Drake is an R&B artist. Why are we talking about him in the same sentence as Hip Hop??? 😮💨🤷🏾♂️
Because he’s top 3 and don’t act like he ain’t
Exactly he's an r&b artist that's why he lost he battled a hip hop artist he never had a chance because what drake does is totally different than what kdot does drake was out his lane
@@clarencethacker7078waay out of his lane.. selling coats in hell
@@clarencethacker7078 stop it drake is not out of his lane Kendrick is probably the only rapper that can compete with drake
He’s not even an R&B artist. He monotone harmonizes he is not a damn singer. He’s an actor playing a rapper.
0:52 no sir, there is nothing to break down. we need you to make the puzzle make any sense at all. thank you.
2:21 that laugh 😂
Elliot: “I can’t say what he sent, I can’t…”
30 seconds later: “he sent me a rat emoji”
Lmfao.
pulled a kanye
Rattin about being a rat
Exactly why he didn't wanna say they called him a rat 4 min later😂😂😂
🎯 I slick lost a lil respect for him after that, because it showed he really will do anything for a look. Lends more credence to Drake thinking he was a rat imo
Great information ℹ️
Yes you need interviews! Some of these artist not realllllly artist and the face they don’t have to interview allows them to continue to milk the game. That’s why when Drake do an interview with Bobbi and it’s cringe we look at the person and artist different. I see what Elliot was saying.
“Does that make sense?”
“Not at all.” 😂
😂strange that drake the guy who lives in the public eye who it seems like has done no interviews where as Kendrick the guy who is a recluse has multiple interviews with big boy, breakfast club lol😂
Drake has still done a decent amount. He did four or five to discuss the control verse and he’s done one or two every other year.
@@ethanmaddy8992 after doing the 4 to discuss control he did the 1 before the espys that has never been released then the 1 with Elliot n no more of note since then
Did Kendrick do an interview with Zane low , Angie Martinez, rap radar,
Drake literally has more interviews than kendrick. Look it up and count. It's elementary school math.
Fam this nasty
I think it depends on what the artist built their career on. Danny Brown built his career on being very open and honest about drug addiction while MF DOOM built his career around being very secretive.
Luv Elliot's laugh
JLO had was been phoney asl tho. It's more so that people aren't authentic anymore.
@@dartiswright4925 I’m just here for “had, was been phoney,” 😅 Fasho, but there was a level of protection, preventing these stars for being fully exposed for how treacherous some of them are behind closed doors doors lol
@@dartiswright4925yeah fax. In this era, it feels like it’s easier to detect if certain stars are corny. There’s no way to really know a person through a smartphone screen but sometimes the general public’s intuition be on point.
Love the art work you have in your studio it’s fire
Yo sent him a rat emoji LMAO
Great convo
Half this cast are yes men so it’s not really sinking in to them what Elliot is saying. Poor things 😂
Brilliantly cut edit
*His Handlers told him to take them down.*
Bro wtf happened
That No is a nice ending 😂😂😂 just perfect
2:09 😂😂😂😂😂😂
This was a healthy conversation. Good points on both sides.
People be in they feelings concerning social media 🤦♂️
Facts..like they own it..smh MFS stupid as hell
It’s seemingly become a trend for new generations of talent to shit on the platforms and media that helped exalt the medium. Hip hop wouldn’t be what it is today if it weren’t for the Mags, blogs, interviews and radio coverage of yesterday. Real hip hop media deserves more respect
I hope Elliot Wilson is just losing weight, and isn't sick. He just look small.
He’s mixed. Aging like fruit
Worried bout his health corny😮
It's such a Drake thing to send a rat emoji to start some argument
"No lightskinni"😂😂😂 this shit made me like Elliott
Joe didn't just say Drake gotta pop out and show oops... 😂
Ain't nothing happening in Toronto to mans, just stay away from the crazies. We all dont fuk wit Drake like that.
Wat part u from
Emanny made the solid point of how it only benefits interviewers, if any artist could compromise themselves
That laugh is diabolical!!!
Sometimes artists refer to interviews in their lirycs.
When I heard
I hate the way to walk, the way talk...
I mmediately see the interview with DMX on The Breakfast Club.
Who’s asking to see ice’s family? Lol
lmfao
Elliot’s laugh sounding like Joker
I had no idea a Rat emoji had that much value... Thats wild!!
Kendrick and Cole as well all all our largest artist have interviews from damn near each stage of their growth... everyone they are talking about have these interviews that show them in the beginning middle and end.
