Yeah….I quit because of MET. I was completely fine working the 36hr/3day shift, but an entire MONTH AND A HALF!? hell naw. It’s honestly extremely disrespectful
It is & I don’t blame you at all. Glad you got out of here, wish you the best in whatever you do next! Just make sure wherever you go next doesn’t have MET lol
It fucks with you mentally, because you are expecting the day off , but at the last minute they make you come in, and why does the mandatory overtime have to be a full shift why can't they make us come in for like 6 hours instead of 10
turning the MET shift into a VET shift and offering standard double pay would solve this problem. the prospect of it not being forced already makes the overtime more palatable
MET is a common practice in companies to ensure sufficient staff on high demand/volume/productivity seasons. When we accepted the job, we accepted the company's demands. If MET is turned to VET (voluntary extra time), nobody may show up, and the company runs the risk of not achieving the demands of their customers or clients, in volume, quality or time. Met is not exclusive to amazon. What happens is that amazon is the first job of many or one of a few so so paid jobs out there that its easy to get hired into without education, that those people that only had a few jobs or with no experience, apply to and those people think MET only happens at Amazon. Rigth now companies are working, as always, to save money but today with A.I. Artificial Intelligence and Robots. New companies, including Amazon are partially robotized and A.I. has replaced some employees whose jobs can now be made by a computer, minimizing costs and insurances, and robots may break down but they dont get sick nor have kids nor complain, way cheaper and more productive. Before Mandatory Extra Time be eliminated, employees will be replaced by robots and A.I.
MET should be illegal. Amazon is the only business in NYS that gets this type of pass. Also having and setting up a union will solve most of the abuse employees have to deal with.
All this MET blows. We've had all this forced OT for going on 3 months in a row now every single week. All of November, December, and now still going on every week in January. At least it's not an extra hour anymore for every day and just an extra day rather than both. 50 hours now is slightly better than the 55 hours we had every week at least. I saw a lot of people use up all their UPT and aren't there anymore due to all the forced OT during that long extended peak we had.
Some locations are actually still doing the extra hour added onto the shifts 🙃 I’m very fortunate that mine isn’t, but we’re still getting that extra MET day though which sucks a lot. I really don’t blame the people who’ve quit by now due to all of the MET
At my FC. They added an extra MET HOUR ontop of your MET DAY. So those full timers that do 10hrs have to stay an additional hour. I’m RT 12hr shifts so on weeks i pick up VET and they try to make me stay another hour i tell them i literally cant or i’ll be over the 60hour limit.. they do the math and mentally go “ oh shxt sorry “ lmao im so annoyed. It seems like my amazon days may come to an end. I may go back into nursing since theres a healthcare worker shortage. They’re giving out 30$ an hour, if i could do both i would. Besides amazon isnt going anywhere i’ll be back i wish i was FLEX though
To your point, if your putting kids through college, the extra time doesn't hurt but it's the 'too much of a good thing is too much of a good thing'. making it optional would definitely be better though
I agree Amazon needs to get rid of MET. Bezos thinks because he pays decent that he owns our free time. Just my opinion. Edit: I don’t know about other facilities, but at mine all of December RT had two MET days each week which is ridiculous to me.
at the end of the day we are a number they don’t care about the employees mandatory MET is a disgrace amazon needs to have these shifts as a option or split the shifts and hire more workers to much burnout not enough pto or upt or if we work an overtime shift exchange for more time off at our expense but they want us to quit 😑😞
My body does not recover fast enough from the 12 hour shifts and honestly I think it's a genuine safety concern as you can easily damage your joints doing MET, you also need those days to get your sleep right as it's hard to sleep during the day. 1.5x over pay is normal across the industry so there are no actual benefits there, just taking control of your life on demand.
standing for that long makes my feet and back hurt and i’ve never been someone to have body pain lol. my toes lose feeling and it only starts to come back after a couple days off
Yeah. I'm at a delivery station and we either buff or reset bags for the hour before we all start stowing. But on my days off they only offer that 1 to 1:30 hour shift instead of a full 10 hr shift.
around what months do they force you on met I just started this month of august initially i applied because I liked the 4 day work week schedule but I had no idea overtime was mandatory that is so messed up especially for us night shift workers just for reference my days are Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday I have college classes on Monday and Wednesday there is absolutely no way i want to work 5 back to back 10 hour days on a night shift
Yep right there with you, I have that extra Sunday shift as well on the 9th. It’s not actually showing up on my AtoZ yet, but I got the email a few days ago.
They told me my MET was on Tuesday's, does that mean I have to go every tuesday or on a specific day. I'm a new hire, and I'm confused if I should go tomorrow or not 😕
amazon has to do MET because the turnover rate is so high at there fulfillment centers that they wouldn't be able to ketchup with the high volume they have during peak .
Honestly annoying since where past peak and I came from a crazzzzzzy schedule at fed ex and the met was 6 days and never discussed until you got the job. Like man I want a 4 week shift.. I’m tired bruh . Also Amazon did the same didn’t mention met until the drug test date
Our MET just started cause I'm at a Return Center. But they aren't paying the extra $2 and hour since they stopped it for the FCs they said and this Saturday ends the double pay for OT even though we have 6-8 weeks left of MET. I picked the doughnut shift so I'd have weekends off but my shift's MET is Saturday. I'd rather give up my Wednesday off for the MET. I understand we have to get all this work done and processed to continue the business but let us decide when we want to do those 10-15 extra hours especially at a return center. Its not like customers are waiting on us to ship the item to them. Those returns gonna be there till we get to them. And If I get 1 more notification this week about covid cases I'm gonna scream!! We all gonna be out cause of Covid at this point!!!
I think it should be abolished too ! I just started working there and already have MET this week 😭🙏🏽 I don’t think it’s fair. I loved hearing your view points !
C11, while I don't work for Amazon...I can agree with doing away with MET. In watching your videos, it seems like they are always hiring and there will always be people who will want the OT pay. It's not like they care about if someone is a good employee or not, they just seem to care about the analytics of their company (hitting numbers). When you are giving someone the choice to pick up OT, it would create a happier environment and possibly even boost numbers because people are there by choice. I can see how some companies have to have it because you don't have the amount of employees that Amazon has, but for a company like Amazon, I don't think they would have a problem based on how many people they employee. Your videos have me in amazement of how weird that company is on certain levels in how they treat their employees. The whole walking off of a shift an hour or two early and still being able to have the job is just bizarre to me. I'm referring to using I think UPT.
Yes you are correct with the UPT part towards the end. Thank you for your response! I can say from someone who works here, it is definitely bizarre. The practices are very strange and unheard of.
I have to work at 6am instead of 7am bc of met..put in 4 more hours. I can barely make it at 7am.. I don't know how I'm gonna be up by 4am 😪 11 hours shift bc of met
Same! Whenever we have the extra hour of MET, I have to wake up at 4 to get there at 6 and it’s the absolute worst. I never get good sleep during those hectic schedules.
@@Si_L_Dan actually it’s 6 days in a row.. say your front half you can do Sunday through Thursday take Friday off go back Saturday just can’t go over 60 or the walk you out
Hey, so I'm scheduled for MET for a day that I cannot work. What can I do so they don't schedule me on that day? My MET day is usually on Wednesday, but I'm scheduled MET for Tuesday and Wednesday.. cannot do Tuesdays, any suggestions...
This is an awesome idea. Considering the turnover, I think Amazon should be doing everything they can to attract employees, and peoples' time is very valuable to them. I'm not a fan of overtime either, but I like that you'll still get two days off. At my previous job, if they scheduled us to come in on one of our days off, then we'd only get one day off. How much overtime did you guys get throughout the year? Like, what percentage of the year?
Nobody take the VET cause no double paid. So they have to scheduld enough people by doing MET and paying double. Use the PTO (almost gain 3 hrs per week now) if you are tired. Just go in an hour later or leave an hour early.
Get some education so you don't have to work entry level jobs that have minuscule benefits, and don't pay well. These companies take advantage of smart but under educated people. These types of workers are a dime a dozen and amazon could care less if you quit. If your smart enough to get a job you will not have a problem in learning a trade or profession in school. Best of luck!!!

turning the MET shift into a VET shift and offering standard double pay would solve this problem. the prospect of it not being forced already makes the overtime more palatable
Yes
That was my thoughts exactly
Exactly and on top of that they’ll probably be paying less people overtime anyway it saves them money and gives us a choice…. Win win situation

How much met does a part time get?
It depends on their shift code, but a lot of part timers do not get MET at all
Just give put it on the board for flex workers and have them pick it up…
Pls talk about AB 701! It’s now in effect as of Jan 01 2022. Protects workers from qoutas

Is MET required if you’re part time?
It depends on your shift, some, if not most part time shifts do require MET. But there are some part time shifts that do not have MET.
MET should only during peak and prime week. the rest of the year, it should be voluntarily
It shouldn't exist at all imo.. but your idea is much better than what we have right now!
If Amazon keeps doing that to me I’m quit Fr they be on sum bullshit
I don’t blame you
They should tell you in person not on the app I don’t use the app much and I got in truble for not showing up on my met day
Yeah I agree, sometimes that MET will hit you out of no where. I have my text notifications on though so it isn’t too much of a problem for me anymore
Is Amazon still paying the 3 extra dollars or did they take that away already?
Flex shift gets that extra pay 3-5 bucks
It depends on your site, my site never did the extra $3 to begin with unfortunately
