Good video for the steps to do this job. However anyone looking to use this video for the procedure on their 2.4L toyota's transmission please note that the recommended ATF for this transmission is toyota type T-IV or WS spec fluid. It is not the same as Dexron, which is what was used in this video. Also, the transmission capacity is not 3.7 quarts, that's only the amount that comes out when you drain it. The actual capacity is around 10 quarts, the rest is contained in the torque converter. So, the fresh fluid added here will mix with the old fluid in the torque converter after driving the vehicle, so now this car has a mix of different types of transmission fluids which can result in transmission overheating and possible slippage or other issues according to toyota. Always follow manufacturer's recommendations for fluids.
Dave Jones Thanks for the clarification on the transmission fluid type to be used. But is it necessary to remove the one from the torque converter which is WS when changing with the Type T-IV?
The idea is. Do a couple more drain and refills after this service. Maybe 500 or 1k miles apart. Essentially diluting the old transmission fluid to the point its new.
I went to the toyota dealer to change the aft and he didn't want to do the aft change because according to them its use for life! My 2011 RAV4 has 150 thousand kilometers traveled and I have had no problems so far with the automatic transmission but they told me that after the aft change there are usually problems, should I change the aft anyway?
It is always safe to drain and fill the transmission fluid (what he's doing here).. no matter the mileage. The risky one is having a machine pump all the fluid out and then refilling it. There is no such thing in existence as lifetime fluid.
I have a 2001 Rav4 and there was a recall for the ECM that Toyota replaced free of charge. The ECM was causing shifting problems. Don't know if it's related to your daughters situation.
Thank you sir! I was able to change the transmission fluid and filter of our Toyota Rav 4 2002 because of your helpful video.

Does atf level is in HOT during engine running?
Was this a front wheel drive or all-wheel drive model?

Dude! You should have hand threaded those bolts from the beginning to get them started. I hope no one does it your way.
Wow your so smart God Bless
Sir, ung old filter, pwde pa ba gamitin uli kung lilinisin? Or need tlg ng new filter ?
My daughters 2001 Rav4 tranny whines in 1st and second gear, but kind of goes away in higher gears. Could it just be the filter?
