2:37 They don't have the capital to get the manufacturing order at a scale where cost can exponentially drop, that's what really is. And that's likely the reason why it looks bulky, coz the parts are "off the shelf" and not custom designed to fit snugly with each other. They could have went to a typical android manufacturer and order a low tier production-ready model and build their OS from there.
3:02 An "unlocked phone" is not tied to any specific carrier or network (AT&T, Verizon, etc.). So, you can switch providers by simply swapping SIM cards.
They have tapped into a widely overlooked market of people. I don't like social media and I'm tired of getting sucked into youtube rabbit holes or feeling like I need to look something up on Google every 10 minutes. But I don't hate smartphones nor do I want to carry around dumbphone: I love having (good) music apps, directions with real time traffic, digital wallet, weather, transit, updated text messaging, and a QR code reader (because, unfortunately, some places don't print menus anymore). I recently bought tickets to a show and per the website I am not allowed to print the tickets as they will not be valid unless presented on a smartphone app or a digital wallet. I just want an in between dumb- and smartphone with a small form factor that won't make my life more stressful but also will cut out all of the extra junk that smartphones bring. The Light Phone III doesn't look like the answer in its current state but I see that they are taking big steps to go in that direction, which influenced my decision to preorder one for $499. It's kind of a "vote with your dollar" approach, I feel. I am hoping other people and companies will catch on.
It's far too expensive. I can buy a cheap $150 android phone, uninstall or block all the distracting apps. Put it in dark mode, then finish off by installing a minimalist launcher (there are lots of those)
your LATE it was 399 at first when i got my preorder in and the price is the less of something you produce the more per device they dont have the buying power of an apple or a samsung so they have to make money some how to stay in business.
Its like a watch. A statement, conversation starter. I would never buy a 700$ non smart watch either but still, there are people who pay a lot for watches (and I'm not talking about the ones you buy as an investment)
That’s a great point - I supposed there are a lot of things that are priced much higher than they should be. For a 700 dollar watch I’d hope it is at least mechanical with its tiny gears and stuff haha
Hey, I'm your 130th Subscriber. Actually i think i need to tell you, look the content is great man you've been working hard a lot i can see it in your eyes, it can be felt in your voice too. Look just hear me up you have the courage to talk consider writing the key-points and just try to stick with it, i think it would make the video become more attractive in terms of presentation.
Welcome! Thank you so much for the sub and for the kind and helpful words. I hope to continue improving my videos and presentations. I appreciate this and will try to incorporate it. Thank you!
Dude thank you this means so much! I really appreciate it. It’s been a great experience, making videos these past few months. I’m excited to keep it going and hopefully grow a following!
so thats basically it its NOT taking advantage the screen they used was custom made to the size they needed these are not off the shelf screens another cost if your not making millions of them the cost per unit is high im on yesr 5 with my light phone 2 it depends how much your time is worth
Hey there thanks for your input. I’m excited to hear how you like it when it arrives! I just can’t fathom why a 799 price tag should be associated to a device like this. My brain cannot compute. You bring up the long life of the device, and that is something I can totally see as valid. Putting a premium on a phone that will last a decade is a noble and understandable pursuit. Still. It’s a chunk of change.
@ its not 799 no one has paid 799 to get one ordered thats just the Estimated price tag worst case senario but they cant get parts as cheap as apple a part apple can get for 2 dollars per part as they buy millions at time light may pay 10 dollars per part as they buy in small batches its as simple as that they cant make a phone as cheap as apple can they dont have the buying power

So like pretty much any other phone that you buy in a store and not through the carrier?
@@Vengir Ya, most bought through Amazon or a store are unlocked.
This should be a custom android launcher. Not a whole phone.
$399 in the App Store 😂

I have a Cats22 and for me it’s a perfect in between of smartphone and dumb phone. It’s got the apps but way less distracting. Plus it’s like 60 bucks

Yeh I looked into this, the guy behind this 'project' has made multiple companies like this and none have evert been materialised - DO NOT BUY ONE!
This is the third iteration of an actual delivered product from a company with multiple reviews (positive and otherwise) all over the net.
