Without plants and toys I felt unomfortable watching a "naked" video. But I was in my cry closet when I watched this, so I endured. Good intro to this device. I hope they add a DJ filter in the EQ section and sidechain compression, per track FX, all the sample tools on the KO-II. I was surprised it had per track microtuning, a great feature.
There's no way to export, but I don't care as none of the grooveboxes I've used over the years had that functionality either. I just mix it all in the device as best possible, then record the stereo output in real time. That's always worked fine for me., and I can solo a track easy enough if I need to split something out for some reason.
If you had to chose between the XY and the OP-1 Field? I want to love the Field, but I think the tape, although I loved the idea for sampling and resampling, takes away the immediacy and performance aspect for me :(
I sold my op-1 field to fund the op-xy. I'll let know if I made a good/bad decision lol. Just for the record, I adored my op-1 field. Had an og-1 prior to the field, which i also loved.
If you're at all looking for a performance tool, it's the XY for sure IMVHO. There's a couple neat things you can to on the 1F on that front, but the XY is far more capable as a live performance piece. The 1F is superb for writing if you don't want to strictly stick with sequenced music and plan to play a lot of it in real time by hand.
Nice video! I see you managed to get rephazer op1 field packs uploaded. Did you manage to get any of the drum sampler packs uploaded … I adore the field fantasy sounds (that contrabass!!!), but can’t figure a way of getting it in.
The drums in the XY are handled totally different from the OP-1F, I'd rather load in individual samples instead of setting start and end points per key from one long sample.
There seems to be criticism on the sound, ..that it sounds thin .. I feel it has high resolution that may seam not has frequency hyped as some others but gives more depth and detail, yet I do understand where these thin comments are coming from.. how do you rate the fidelity HI Mid Lo compared to Okta 707 etc ..
I think it's a brand new piece of gear that's only been out for a couple weeks and no one has really had the time to delve into everything it can do yet. Overall it sounds fine to me, and there's a lot of sound shaping potential onboard. Personally I'm not worried about being able to create some nice modern sounds on the OP-XY, the tools are there blame the person using them :)
@@tarekith yes but they lack character to me and the envelopes are strange to set up... also env amount on the filter... Not really grabby punchy... more sterile and technical. I cant get satisfying filter envelopes for bass sounds... lot´s of tweaking and not happy
"No tiny plants" "No EDC" "No stupid toys" 😂😂😂 I'm already subscribed, but hell, I'd double subscribe if I could... I almost didn't even recognise that this was a Teenage Engineering product on your desk with the lack of hipster crap everywhere 😂 its very refreshing to see!
Dude, if you didn’t hear already, this thing sucks, is overpriced and smells like 2 week old broccoli. Enjoy your XY, I’ve been loving it so far. Tracks can come seamlessly to me with it, I enjoy the workflow so far
Great vid! 👍 Had it for two weeks now and i love it. Hope they throw in a visualizer app in later..

Thanks for enduring the painful watching experience. LOL
Great video. Can’t wait to see the full review. And to see what you think of Brain or best ways to export sessions to further work on

Superb as alway, cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it
One of the few people on the entire internet I trust & value their opinion.
Ha! I’m a shill and TE paid me lots of money to say nice things about their new baby. 😂
i get it, you had to sell the cosmetic trinkets and gadgets to afford the op! congrats on the new instrument and thanks for a great vid.
Small ferns go for a lot on the green market these days.
Thanks for the video, looking forward to the full review. I can't put the thing down!
As always thanks for your insights
As always, thanks for watching! Glad you found it helpful.

@@tarekith I didn’t know how much I liked quantization AND playing my phrases until I got the Field 😅
Depends on what you play and how you play it
Is it possible to use the OP XY as a sequencer for the OP 1 Field and record it on the tape of the OP1F. And wich parameters does send to the OP 1f?
Sure, here's a list of all the MIDI CCs the OP-XY sends:

The OP-XY is incredible!!! Would buy again

Was waiting for this review!
Pretty sure you can raise/lower volume of multiple tracks if you are soloing them first. Not perfect but helpful.
Correct, I didn’t learn about that until after I made this video.

Yup, you have to sell all tiny plants and stupid toys to get your best tiny toy 😂
Love my OP-XY, keeping OP-Z too for good memories ❤
I have it since a 2 week. The main thing I am not happy with are the filters and the envelopes. Does anyone like them?
You know you can choose 4 different filters on the XY right?

How do you think it compares to the Octatrack Mk2?
They are so different in workflow and capabilities I don't really think there's a comparison, totally different tools IMO. Sorry.
Ok, thanks!

I'm glad people are getting my sense of humor and not getting offended :)
Have you used it together with your opz?
No, they're so similar I don't really see the need. I'd likely reach for the OP-XY every time unless I needed to play one of my older OP-Z sets live.
Does send the glitch bus effects to midi like ko2 that’s the craziest thing ever

Haha love the post-its ❤😂
Every synth engine sounds pretty weak
Is M8 MK2 sound better and can OP-XY tune to make it sound better?
