Elsa is so full of life, she feels everything. She sees the beauty in every sunrise and sunset, and everything in between. It's beautiful to see the world through her eyes, but of course, someone that feels this much.... the darkness touches them that much more as well. As the show goes on, her emotions will be yours, both the highs and the lows. Taylor did an amazing job telling this story through her eyes...
Taylor Sheridan's writing is pure poetry. It's a shame he's oversaturating himself. people are going to burn out and get sick of him in a year or two and that'll be that.
That shot of Billy Bob Sam Elliot and the rest of them walking towards the trouble the way they had them all Spread out side by side….reminded me of tombstone the one with Val Kilmer and Kurt Russell .:
Marshal "Jim" Courtright is a legend in Fort Worth. He was Marshal for just a few years, but made a huge impact by significantly reducing crime. Super fascinating man with a crazy history.
Dysentery was the biggest killer during the Civil War - often caused by water contaminated by feces (hence, why they spoke of not drinking water direct from the river and locating their latrine away from the water source). It leads to bloody diarrhea, inflammation of the intestines and colon, with death due to dehydration likely. It was also a major killer on the Oregon trail for the same reasons - sanitation wasn't commonly known.
04:14 The American Civil War The Battle of Antietam 1862, one of the bloodiest battles of the war till Gettysburg the next year in 1863. General Robert E. Lee's 1st attempted invasion of the north
@matthewcharles5867 yeah we hiked it when I was a boyscout many decades ago. The most shocking is when you walk the sunken road then see the pictures showing bodies filling it up to the top
@dirtygrunt there's a little place in Australian history called lone pine it was an attack made across a area 160 yards wide and about 150 yards deep it ended up similar to the sunken lane 3000 Australian soldiers were killed and wounded along with 7000 Turkish soldiers in the small area they talked in their dairies about the body's being stacked 7 feet high. Like antietam it was a real bloodbath it went on over 4 days in horrible conditions in Gallipoli in ww1.
One of the things I love about this show is that the scruffier of the cowboys (Wade I think) is shown to not be the yokel you might assume. He knows his business well and is super competant.
The battle of Antietam took place in Maryland during the Civil War. It remains the largest number of casualties in US military history in one day. Over 23,000. The battlefield is now a national monument/park where you can visit. Yes, I have been there. Large portions of it remain as it was on that day.
1883 is a true representation of what these people went thru back then. It's both beautiful and horrible at the same time. Hold on to your seats for what's to come.
This ☝🏼☝🏼 One of my all time fave movies! It's very long but well worth it. May want to react to in parts (3) if y'all decide to react to this movie. Top actors/actresses too inc Kevin Costner, Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones, Danny Glover, Dianne Lane & many others.
As a Scotsman I can't understand how you don't know of your major battles in the Civil War. The Battle of Antietam pronounce Auntie Ettam was the first field army-level engagement in the Eastern Theater of the American Civil War to take place on Union soil. It ended the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia's first invasion into the North and led Abraham Lincoln to issue the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation.
I'm an Australian who is also amazed that I may know more about their Civil War than an American. The movie Gettysburg starring Marin Sheen as Robert E Lee could be a good watch for someone wanting to know more about the American Civil War. Also Jeff Daniels plays the Union General Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain.
Unfortunately, many people don’t care much to learn about it, and it is not taught much beyond the basic details in school unless specific courses are sought out.
In the States, we unfortunately don’t learn anything more in school than simplistic basics of our Civil War. We would have to research and learn on our own if we want to be informed about it.
That scene with BillyBob? There’s only one killer in this town, and that’s me. Sound familiar? No fighting on this ranch, you wanna fight? You fight me.
I'm so happy you react to this show, hardly anyone does and I don't know why because this show is one of the best I've ever seen. Also, big love for Elsa, I love her so much!
The little boy John in this is not Kevin Costner's grandfather. Kevin Costner's John Dutton is just the third in the family to be named John. The boy is his great-grandfather, his father's grandfather.
This series is amazing! Great depiction of the Oregon trail. I love the way Elsa sees the wilderness with child like eyes. After this, the next sequel is 1923 which it's second season starts at end of Feb, due to covid.
Guys, I don't know what y'all have watched on or off camera, but I have a couple things you might want to add to your list. Open Range. Really good movie with Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall and others you will recognize, including a small part for someone who you will know from Sons. Then the series Deadwood. Very gritty, but a real look at the old west. Lots of characters you will know from Sons and John Wick and lots more. Also a lot of the characters are drawn from history. Then the mini series Lonesome Dove. Great writing , great cast, great storylines. Stay safe and well.
The fact that Elsa's aunt is the way she is was probably due to losing 6 children. So you can see it in a more differentiated way. I don't think you can still go through life happily after 6 lost children. Now the seventh and that's it for her.
I never realized until i watched this series teice but with the sister dying, that symbolizes that they have officially left civilization and society with them.
Look up photos of Andersonville prisoners, you will see what his character looked like. Warning, it’s shocking Many got either cholera or just dysentery With clean water it’s survivable but the lack of clean water was often the issue so many died. .

Taylor Sheridan forgot to come up with another pitch for Paramount so last minute he basically made OREGON TRAIL the show, but because it’s him, it’s great! 😄
I watched a youtube video about how acurate 1883 was and the historian picked out the battle scene at the start and the nit he had to pick was James dutton being from that regement would have been on the eastern side of the battlefield but that church is on the west... Yeah he picked such tiny nits. Also it makes me laugh you wondering if Elsa dies or not but you've finished Yellowstone and in the final episode see her grave... So you know she's dead! well... she would be 170+ years old so I guess it's not a spoiler. Edit: Also had a little chuckle when Nikki said 'Just leave claire behind' 😂
I think i remember learning that Antietam is the highest body count in a day in American war history. Not sure if that's still true, but over 20000 people died in one day. First Civil War battle in union territory. Changed everything.
Probably won’t see them for a while but we the audience will love to see you react to Lioness, you’ll see reoccurring actors from Sheridans other projects like Thomas from here.
So in case no one has said it yet, Fort Worth is Fort Worth Texas west of Dallas, Texas. Good notice of the hard ground during a burial. A lot of Texas is rock which is why it is known for its Cattle not farming as much other states. Just like the Germans said the ground is too hard and barren making farming difficult. So Oregon or Montana.
They are outside of Fort Worth near the Trinity River. You don't want to drink water from the Trinity, it is muddy and dirty and full of cow dung and other things. Yes, it would kill them.

You'd also like Wyatt Earp in terms of cowboy stuff, came out about the same time as Tombstone, starring Kevin Costner and was a good film in it's own right

Battle of Antietam. Still remains the “bloodiest day in American history”. Over 22,000 dead on both sides. The battle’s nickname is “Bloody Antietam”. Maryland, although a Southern slave state and mostly pro-Confederate, did not secede from the Union so it’s technically the 1st attempt by the Confederates to invade the Union. First time 2 full field armies (FA=2 or more Corps) collided in battle in the Eastern Theater (basically the Atlantic coast states from Pennsylvania to Virginia) instead of battles between 1 Corp each or skirmishes between smaller units A great Union victory it allowed Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, effectively 1 Jan 1863, without sounding like someone who’s desperate and grasping at straws after multiple defeats by the Union Army. Issued after a major Union victory. The EP was therefore taken seriously home and abroad as it shifted the war’s primary objective for the Union from putting the Union back together to ending slavery. By doing this it also forced the anti-slavery British and French to back off from supporting the Confederacy by building, maintaining and supplying the Confederate Navy and giving them supplies to take to the Confederate Homefront after running the blockade. After the EP, ships in British shipyards being built were confiscated and either broken up or turned into British Navy ships. Confederate ships were no longer allowed to come into British and French ports for maintenance and supplies.

In every Yellowstone series, there’s at least one Dutton who’s a tortured war veteran
Sign of the times. 😒
No, baskervillebee6097 it a sign of war.
Good catch
The narration of this series is highly praised.

It was definitely a nod to Sam's role tombstone 😅

Telling my kids this was the original Oregon Trail 😂😂😂😂
"Today is your birthday"
Next day
"You got dysentery"
This is actually the Oregon Trail story, so you'd be correct
The problem is; They never travel on the Oregon Trail. They're going North from Fort Worth Texas. The Oregon Trail is 2/3 into the trip.
@Laochri the people who traveled the OT did not all go to the starting line and then begin. They joined it from a thousand origins and directions.
The Oregon trail is dead north of Fort worth.
I binged the whole season after y’all’s first reaction.
It’s so good

25:20, you guys have to watch Landman also from Taylor Sheridan. Billy Bob Thornton is awesome on that show.
Sheridan's shows have a lot of cross over secondary and guest characters in 1923, Lioness, and Mayor of Kingstown, not sure about Tulsa King.
@@johnyao5587Tulsa king does just not as much as the others.

The American Civil War
The Battle of Antietam 1862, one of the bloodiest battles of the war till Gettysburg the next year in 1863. General Robert E. Lee's 1st attempted invasion of the north

Over 23,000 in a day it was a bloodbath in quiet a small area.
