Hi .T.Ccarpentry T. Yes I think they are good little saws. They've got they're own noise and character with the reed valves. This version is a bit high on vibration levels but I like it on small jobs nice and light. Cheers Calvin
Hi RJC-Services. Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for the comments. Yes you're right most of these conifer jobs won't grow back because it's such an aggressive cut for them to recover from But I do what the customer wants. I try not to do any trimming or cutting on conifers now if its wet. Because what I've read the conifer die back disease is more likely when the conifer is wet. All the best Calvin
@@CalvinThomas05 It's not that, many conifers only grow from their growing tips, they wont produce new buds on bare wood so once you cut below the growing tips (chop all the leaves and green stems off) the stem will die. You see it on older trees where people cut the lower sides back to give room and you're left with ugly dead branches sticking out sideways. They might as well cut back to the trunk while the wood is still softer.
I've recently finished a job Pontydullais, conifers the same. Somebody had done it before and it had died in the middle. It was considerably higher than the one you did there. But every limb that had been cut originally was dead. Have you ever had that problem before? I always like your work, and would value your knowledge. Thanks my man.
Hi Jo. This hedge done the same to me on the left side from the rear.( the front was ok ) I don't know why but I have done a bit of research. Maybe I took it down too much in one go but yet the right hand side is still growing ok. Also I read don't cut or trim conifers if they are wet because that helps to spread disease. The disease problem seams to be hit or miss to me. One job might be ok will another will die. I will try to do a lot more research into it. I suppose the harder the cut the more stress on it and they dont recover very good but on the other hand some will come ok strange. Thanks for the comments. Cheers Calvin
Cypresses don't grow from bare stems or trunks. If you cut all the leaves off the whole stem/trunk etc will die. If a cypress hedge has been allowed to get too tall where all the leaves are on the outside, then chopping the hedge lower will remove all the top leaves and the entire centre will die. You could try removing all the centre branches and hopefully the outside branches which still have leaves on them will grow inwards but it's probably better to remove the plant(s) and start again, with something that will respond to being cut back hard.
I'm based down in Devon. Your videos inspire me to make a change from plumbing. I recently purchased the stihl Hs 45 hedge clipper. I have the km56 chainsaw attachment for the pine tree. I use this for the lopping off of the branched. I have the hedge trimmer extender bar and s trimmer for my hedge which must be 15ft thick. Where did you buy the aluminium hedge tressel.
Hi Dave. I'm glad my videos inspire you. You have some nice stihl equipment there. I bought my podium off ebay. its a Lyte POD17. 1.7 mtr at feet height. Check them out on ebay. Theres lots of similar ones on there at reasonable prices. Cheers Calvin
Hi Dan. I bought the new Husqvarna t525 about 3 weeks ago. its a cracking little saw with the small 1/4" chain. I will look into them stihl 193 in the future. I hear good things about them. Cheers Calvin
Did you end up with conifer itch/rash up your arms? I seem to look at this stuff and, pow, my arms are covered in a rash. It goes in a couple of hours though.
Love those old reed valve 009 saws bought one new in 1994 and she served me proud for 15+ years

Nice job 👍😉
Thank You Neusa C. All the best Calvin
all good and well when you got a wall to stand on.
nice job, I hate conifer reductions, I thinks its the OCD, I know the bare parts will never green up. you have made a difficult job look good.

Nice video. do you have the correct license for the top handle saw ?

Best thing to do with that is cut it off at ground level let it dry out burn the lot and put a fence up

Hi bobbelsekwol. Funny enough I have all up the inside of my forearms lol. Cheers Calvin
I bought some arm protectors in the end. It looks horrible at the end of the day when you talk to the customers.
Yep me too tho it’s not itchy just looks bad
Same here. I thought it was just me. I get rash and itch from trimming conifers. I wear long sleeves and gloves which helps.
