  • Manchukuo, or ""State of Manchuria"", was a puppet state comprised of Eastern Inner Mongilia and Manchuria. Created by the former Qing Dynasty Emperor and Imperial Japan in 1932, it ceased to exist after the defeat of Japan in WWII. The international furor that resulted from the creation of the state of Manchukuo, eventually led Japan to withdraw from the League of Nations. This propaganda film shows the newly-created state, with a focus on how the Japanese are improving the lives of average citizens and bringing industry and railroads to what was a rural state.

I came here to see my hometown, not disappointed. There are very few footages of it, and I am glad I have seen what my grandfather has seen when he was young.

Urzhin Garmayev, the great Buryat soldier, was a General in the army of Manchukuo.

Did he made it out alive from angry Chinese and Soviet soldiers who killed everyone wearing a Manchuko and Japanese uniform?

It is the combination of "Queen's English" and poor sound quality that has that effect.

In case some people weren't educated on why this is propaganda, Japan during WW2 basically used China, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, and most of the pacific theater as slave colonies, it was a reign of terror under which countless atrocities and war crimes were committed. Just in Manchukuo the infamous unit 731 was conducting torturous human experimentation on civilians behind the scenes of this picturesque film.

Also in late 1939. Americans and Irish movie goers saw a German side to why they invaded Poland. In 1945 evidence revealed that Germany dressed up Polish inmates as Polish Soldiers and told them to attack a a radio station. Then killed them afterwards. A few hrs later WW2 began.

Rule by the British and Americans was cruel, but rule by Japan was wonderful. Taiwan and Manchuria developed very well and the people were happy.

How is this propaganda? Does everything that promotes Japan in that century constitute propaganda now?

well propaganda isnt necessarily bad or good. during this period of time it bascially just meant government pushed news of any description its only in modern times it gets its meaning of being fake or biased or jingoistic.

@@BringbackgAmberleafns Yes, I'm aware that propaganda is a neutral stance, but let's be honest it is immediately associated with negativity in about 95%+ people's minds, especially on UA-cam. This video really could have just been published without the uploader's subjective take on the matter and just relay the video to us without putting strings on it.
Do you see people labeling the videos from Armchair historians on youtube as propaganda? (They tend to be).

But either way manchuria was seen by nearly everyone except japan as illegally occupied territory.
So propaganda in the modern sense this clearly is.

@@BringbackgAmberleafns Sure, but the narrator is clearly a non-Japanese and there seems to be no evidence that he is being paid by any Japanese organization to make this report. Definitely much different when say, a political party in the United States sends donors to news media outlets to churn out propaganda.
