I love ECM as a mechanic, but, I feel that once a ship has been jammed it needs a 100% sensor strength buff for the next 40 seconds. It should be possible to permajam someone, but it should be hard, a single griffin shouldn't be able to permajam a logi.
It's a real shame to see you go mate, I thoroughly enjoyed your content. Whilst on the subject of ECM, and bare with me here, I came back after a solid 2 year break, and for the most part I care bear in high sec. Anyway, running a lvl 4 mission one pocket I was practically perma jammed by NPC's! I've played on and off for ten years and I've never seen anything like it, I swear they have changed something. I will see if I can edit the footage and post a link.
Thanks! Ya I think CCP is trying to push team work so hard in EvE that solo players are getting pushed away... Solo players don't make them as much RL money as big alliances do. :(
In the end EVE is a game and that shit right there is no fun at all. Yup CCP is solely focused on fleet pvp and sov politics. It's that kind of shit there that made me turn away from small gang pvp and focus on solo frig cruiser play in FW space. People were much more likely to give a good fight when they were flying a less expensive ships. I nearly lost my fucking mind when they decided to buff ewar frigs and create a frig sized logi class. There for a while I couldn't tap my scanner without seeing Bantam or Navitas in a low sec plex.
It's why one of the 4 battleships I have in the WH live in is a Scorpion. Warped into a 3 man cruiser gang and moonwalked out after they killed the rolling battleship.
After 10 years of crying about this i'm fed up talking about it. I have trained all the skills to max i have used jackels and i still get jammed by fucking ec-300's or perma jammed by falcons/kitsunes ect.. I am of the same opinion as you i don't mind the mechanic it's self its the strength (chance base equation) and cycle times that piss me off. Whats more annoying is 99% of pvpers agree that its broken but nothing ever gets done. Now i am resigned to the fact that it will always be stuck in the middle of not enough people pushing for a change and always being low down on CCP's list of stuff that "might need to be looked at"
lol, yeah i have done allot of small gang logi and one ecm dron jammed me 3 times out of 5 and i have max skills and had a sensor boost with ecm script (and i was heating in a was tech 2 a scimi). I think they need to lower the chance of jam or increase the ship strength
Feeling this will be a really unpopular opinion but here I go anyway: I agree in FWar ECM alts ruin fights but as someone who flies ECM a lot, granted mostly in small gang wormhole fights, I feel the strength of ECM is exagerated. Sure it's really shitty to sit doing nothing for 20 seconds but even a max skilled falcon drops jams fairly often. There are ways around ECM. Mark ECM alts and those they fly with -10 and don't fight them or bring a sensor booster when you do. Giving up a mid slot to counter EWar is consistant across the board: Cap battery for neuts, tracking computer for disruptors, sensor booster for damps and ECM. A sensor boosted battleship will sit roughly somewhere between 30 and 40 sensor strength. A max skilled falcon hits 14-17 jam strength overheated depending on fit. Roughly 50% chance per cycle to jam on spec but as it's independent chances you'd need 3 on spec jammers for it to perma-jam. Falcon only gets 4-5 slots for ECM and multispec is pretty awful so the falcon must commit to only being able to jam 2 racial types for perma-jam. Now when you remove the sensor booster it gets really bad for the battleship ~80% chance for jam so 2 on spec will perma-jam. I get why people really dislike ECM; it makes you feel useless, but often times neuts achieve a similar effect and are far more reliable. 50% of weapon systems are disabled by neuts and it comes with the benefit of disabling tank so I definately feel neuts are a stronger option. But yet ECM feels like a broken mechanic and I'd wager the reason for that is that you are immensely aware of its effects when it shuts you down. While I understand your frustration with ECM in FWar consider how blanket changes would effect other areas of the game. I can only speak for how my corp operates in wormhole space but we are fairly reliant on ECM to make up for our smaller numbers.
ok at this point we might need to differ between stacking penalties and actual dr, dr in the definition of mmorps usually means that after a successful incap the next got 50% durations and so on
I really don't understand why CCP doesn't change anything that clearly doesn't work. I mean, 90% server is complaining about something and CCP wil probably never change it until it's too late. ECM is clearly overpowered especially when used in small fights, it's just unfunny and too good to be left like that. Beside that, nice fight!
We are all not alts.. all my characters can fly falcons. In WH you need to be able to. Honestly i would love them to fix the ECM small gang cancer. Just like we had off grid links. On grid links are awesome, a great change to the game.
I stopped playing in 2011. Back then FALCON and co were stupidly op and had been ever since the beginning of the game. CCP will never change this, nor will they beef up the other ewar to compensate. It's CCP, a bunch of reclusive guys in Iceland who think that by being nordic on an island in the Atlantic makes them the font of all wisdom and coolness.
I always thought jams would be just as effective in their primary role without being broken if they just reduced max lockable targets to 1 instead of 0. Still forces choices but allows for counter play in all situations
Replacing the time with a simple lock break would be wonderful... Annoying AF but at least you don't have to set there for 20 sec praying for a miss on the next cycle... I love your idea!
Jams really aren't a fun game play mechanic. All other ewar has some sort of work around. Damps? fly closer, Tracking disruption? get that transverse v down. Jams.. Sit there like a dump potato for 20secs.. and hope another jam doesn't land in the next 30 secs! Winmatar is my fav as well.. but our sensor strength is god awful.
Perhaps some kind of "Diminishing returns" should be implemented. In WoW if you stun a guy a second time with in 15 seconds of it ending your next stun in halved in effect and this continues until they are immune to stun effects. So people are faced with the option of trying to lock you down one after another but each only lasts so long and every time its reduced till your immune or they give you a 15 second opening to reset it. Obviously 15 sec may need to be longer in Eve but its a way they make it not a stun fest if your solo vs 2 or 3 people. Miss your videos man hope you return soon with an epic montage! :3
Literally why i stopped playing, i want to love the game but every time i go out solo its a blackbird or tengu =\ CCP really needs to get it together and realize how many players they have lost to this cancer.
ECM genuinely is broken, sure there are ways you can try to diminish the effects of it (loads of sensor boosters) however you'll always land a hit most of the time, especially when using multiple. No i'm not salty, i'm saying this as a pilot who regularly uses 2 blackbird alts, sure call me a fag and all but its a broken game mechanic and I abuse it to win :)
Hi friendly targets o/ I guess u remember me as the yolodread :) I agree, it’s viable option etc and I don’t hate people using it, it’s a strategic thing but it’s too strong when u solo and then someone brings ecm on an alt, u can’t even chase the ecm ship down, so in my opinion the range has to be shorter, the cycletime longer and ur ecm‘d for a certain ship excluding the Jammer maybe? I mean anything would help, but I like the idea giving ecm invurnability for a certain amount of time (shorter then the cycletime) to a dude, so u can’t lock 1 guy when u fight 2 for example. If that makes sense
It's unfair to say that CCP isn't aware of this problem. Before CCP Rise was hired to be on the balance team he was known for his 'Bringing solo back' videos as the player Kil2. He has stated repeatedly that he agrees with the opinion that ecm is OP. The issue is that ecm creates 'big moments' for new players, a subsection of the player base eve is notoriously bad at appealing to. If we want to see an actual change to ecm we would have to preserve what makes it great for new players while addressing the real problem with ecm: the perma jam. If each consecutive jam attempt on a target was less effective ecm would still be viable but infinitely less annoying. Buffing the crap out of sensor strength implants is another option as it would appease the people complaining without disproportionately affecting ecm as a mechanic aimed at players that are new or have a low skill level.
Look at it this way, if CCP had developers who were as invested into an account and played with the same strive to dominate the enemy as you and I. Do you think ECM would be the same? in other words, if you and I were developing for eve with our knowledge and investment of the game... Developers test and run numbers, but do not invest into a character.
FT listen to my idea very carefully. ECM should be changed so that each successful ECM jammer equates to -1 maximum locked targets. This will eliminate the meta against small gang solo ECM but keep the role to fleets where the idea of ECM is to break cap chaining logi pilots.
That would make ECM literally useless, a guardian can lock 10 targets and it's only vital to have 3 locked. This means that you need 7 successful jams to so much as effect his ability to act in a cap chain.
So.... you encountered a counter to your play.. and enlisted the help of other players, who came to your aid (bringing the same mechanic you're complaining about) which turned into a neat 4v3 where you got some kills and you got off safely... sounds like many people got together to have a fun fight and did... it's almost like CCP forced you guys to group up and play together in a MMO! The shame...
Hey, I totally understand; Especially for how you enjoy the game. Just wanted to make sure you were doing alright. I know a bunch of us were wondering what happened to you, I'm sure we're all glad you're doing ok!
It is a 7 jam tengu doing that, and statistically he only had about a 2/3 chance of jamming you on a given cycle. Not sure why they didn't just bring a curse or pilgrim and just kill you though.
I have noticed that people getting jammed are the ones on the unlucky side. I did some checks and jams seem to land statistically more often than they should.
@@friendlytargets1522 Cumulative probability since each module is independent (1-jam chance)^7. Even if each module only had 5% jam chance you would still be jammed 70% of the time
Is ECM broken? I'd argue sort of. ECM is a no-skill way of ending fights easily. Take in to consideration, however, a few things. ECM is not used too often, due to it's reputation as being OP and some other things I will discuss. ECM ships always give up something in exchange for jams. They have almost no DPS, a very light tank, they're slow AF, and ECM has some limitations. If a pilot puts drones on an ECM ship that can be a good counter. ECM is chance based, which means that unlike damps, neuts, webs, and other EWAR, ECM will eventually fail. Yes, ECM is a no-skill pussy way to play the game, but it is not a huge problem for the game in general.
ECM needs a rework not much lower the chance or increase ship strength a little that was jam tengu he should of been jammed that much i agree, but griffins are a overpowered, i have been jammed by 1 ECM drone in tech 2 logi for 3 out of 5 cycles and i had a sensor booster with ECM script and max skills. It is needed but needs a look at. Ignored the drone as it was one drone in the end i had to kill, it poor thing i bet it had a family.
'Ecm is known to be OP and therefore ISN'T used as often'... I have never once played a competitive or pvp game where this was true. In games with professional scenes (league obviously comes to mind) whenever a pro abuses a certain character/mechanic the play rate of that character/mechanic skyrockets, EVEN IF the strategy is only viable at a professional level. This would seem to be a strong argument that the perception of something being OP (regardless of it being OP or not) increases play rate dramatically. Ecm isn't a problem for the game as a whole because it doesn't scale well into fleet engagements, that's it. But it is still the #1 complaint for solo pvp pilots and has been for a decade
Small gang pvp jams are king. A single Falcon pilot can save a small fleet, or let you drop onto things you just shouldn't take on. My grip is not so much that its op. Its not too bad honestly. My grip is how Unfun it is. Instead break all locks, and reduce max locked ships to 1 or something. Still strong. But at least not just sit there and do nothing.
Greg Ewing good solution, but at that point it would be almost undebatably worse than damps or neuts. TBH I think ECM should consume ammo and have a reload. So maybe they could get off like 3-5 cycles before having like a 60 sec reload. Obviously with multiple ECM ships they could keep you jammed, but then they have a lowered chance of a jam succeeding. If there is a solo jammer though, it gives an opportunity to break free from tackle, or kill off the ECM.
At least he has a chance of missing a jam - try getting into it with a ship slightly faster than you loaded with target range damps - They never miss. edit: When you say solo PVP - that's you solo vs several players - not one on one. Add tackle + range control + cap mods/rigs to keep them running on to the ecm Tengu and this type of perma-jam doesn't really happen that often - one on one .... but you got tag teamed
Neuts are worse as they neut based on range. Ecm is chance based so there is at least a chance the name will fail. Neuts drain as long as you have it activated

Omg that is annoying! Was once jammed for a entire solo fight by 5 light ecm drones.
Sounds like what I did last time
Hmm 🤔

Never used ecm or had it used on me, thankfully but just watching that made me so mad
Always great finding a good small/solo pvp'er.
Hope to see a Hecate vid from you soon.

I agree it is way OP. And no one ever uses other Ewar because of it. I would love to use damps or disrupters. ecm is just a pain in the ass.
You should play eve 15 years ago when ECM had no range :)

I'd be happy if CCP added a minigame to play while being ecm'd. Win= break jam and get sensor strength boost for some time.
When are you coming back with new eve vids dude? :)
Hmm a ship designed to jam someone jammed someone...
Simple fix: diminishing returns. No, really!
i dont know what to say but theres actually nothing i could agree more with, every game got dr's on lockdown abilities, so why not ecm as well?
everything in eve has dr except ecm
ok at this point we might need to differ between stacking penalties and actual dr, dr in the definition of mmorps usually means that after a successful incap the next got 50% durations and so on

Why did you stop making videos :(
EvE break, I tested the waters in my hunting grounds two weeks back but ECM is a hot meta atm. I'll be back friend, just not sure when :/
If you caught the patch notes just posted hopefully october :D
Make a help channel for yourself. Our guys roam a lot and i am an avid recon pilot so i'd love to offer you assistance from anoikis :D
Man I'd love to, but I have what Doctors call "The Lazy" :( ... it's terminal D:
They should get rid of that timer.. getting jammed and lost your lock fine but not being able to lock for x amount of seconds.. REEEEE
Replacing the time with a simple lock break would be wonderful... Annoying AF but at least you don't have to set there for 20 sec praying for a miss on the next cycle... I love your idea!

Not many enough my dude. Its been like this since ancient Egypt.
DEL the game is dying and they are just ignoring it, it's insane to me
That's why solo is almost entirely hit-and-run tactics unless you're in an uber-expensive beast that can dominate fields of carebears.
So long as you have a fighting chance, 1v1, 1v3, 1v10 ...ect, but if you can't lock, nothing matters. :(
They nerfed it fyi, you can now lock whatever is jamming you so you can counter. Only took them 12 years.
I miss you Bro
