- In this old film footage from the Russian State Documentary Film & Photo Archive at Krasnogorsk (RGAKFD) you can see the Russian Emperor Nicholas II, Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, Tsarevich Alexei, Grand Duchesses Olga, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia (OTMA), and also Dowager Empress Marie Feodorovna as they have a rest aboard the Imperial Russian Yachts "Standart" and "Polar Star".

Even over a hundred years ago,children running,laughing,smiling at the camera.
Maybe 120 light years away on a distant planet around a strange star some intelligent creature is looking at our sun and the earth orbiting it right at this moment - absorbing in the eyes the light that also shone on the kind faces of these lovely children on the deck of the Standart while they were running and dancing and falling in front of the camera, and at this very moment the distant observer is looking back to the past, a past where these children were hopes of the future. These happy moments that Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia and Alexei shared will never fade, they are carried away into eternity on the wings of light! Let us never forget and forgive this brutality that erased this innocence from life. Let religious fervor for ideologies stay forever far from humankind.
I see Derevenko, one of Alexis' guardians. He turned on the Imperial family during the revolution, while Nagorny, another sailor guardian stayed with them to the end. He was shot in Ekaterinburg not long before the family was murdered.
Omgosh. This is so sad heartbreaking even though it was so long ago. I just became fascinated with listening to every story about 2 months ago and it's been Non-Stop. They were a beautiful family and he was not meant to be a tzar. it's such a shame that he couldn't do what he wanted to do in his lifetime. Be a family man and a photographer. I hope if reincarnation is really something that happens they all got to come back and live the lives they wanted to live and somehow maybe some of them together again
The Russian Imperial Family was vacationing on the Standart during the summer of 1914, when they received the news of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, in Sarajevo. With the outbreak of World War I, Standart was placed in drydock.
After the fall of the Romanov Dynasty, Standart was stripped down and pressed into naval service. The ship was renamed 18 Marta (18 March), and later Marti. In 1932-1936, Marti was converted into a minelayer by the Marti yard in Leningrad. During the Second World War, Marti served in the Baltic, laying mines and bombarding shore positions along the coast. On 23 September 1941, Marti was damaged in an air attack at Kronstadt, but later repaired and continued service until the end of the war.
After the war, Marti was converted into a training ship and renamed Oka in 1957. She continued serving in that role until she was scrapped at Tallinn, Estonia, in 1963.

My respect and empathy for Nicholas II and his family. has definitely grown over the years. The more I read and research, the more I realize how much of a bum deal the man got. Even if he was a tyrant(which is debatable) his children did not deserve to die like they did...

They lived as if the French Revolution had never occurred. Perhaps if the Romanovs hadbecome more like the British or the Netherland royals...constitutional monarchs, theymight have survived. AND they should have left France and Belgium to their own fatesin 1914. Rasputin warned them not to involved in the Great War.Too late now....

Very nice video. Those times spent on the Standart were happy days for the family. After watching this it's so sad to think of their death in 1918.

Notice that the girls play hard yet are so careful not to bump into Alexei and they never run at full steam so as to keep even with little Alexei to protect him from getting hurt witch would kill him due to his condition.

You can tell from these little actions they do that they were such charming people
One can tell from the body language and faces of the crew that the children were most beloved. We are so lucky that photography had been just discovered at that time and so that so much film footage survives. Had this not been the case so much of the Romanovs story would have been lost in the mist of time.

The opening "sail-by" is clearly not the "Standart," by the way. It must be the "Polar Star," which I'm not as familiar with. Many differences: gun positions, bridge, skinnier funnels, aft superstructure, etc. One of the most obvious is all the enormous vents surrounding the thicker funnels on the "Standart." In that very first scene, those vents are fewer and smaller. Good to see that imperial yacht, too, though.

where was the Standart sailing at the time of the film? I know they sailed in the Baltic but did it make it all the way round to the Black Sea sometimes for the summer residence?
