Not so much to me cause of the obvious power differences with all the characters introduced, then you got to take into account how Yuji even got there. The diner scene with Geto, Hanami and Jugo was the best example. Only one sensed something was wrong and got out in time then soon after everyone was killed. Not only does this show the unforeseen dangers that lurk around but it also shows just how often someone can sense something is wrong and survive not because of instinct but of talent. Powers are a talent that is rare and many don't have it so many or gonna be at a disadvantage and even if you do have some there is always gonna be something better, Jugo showed us that multiple times. @@Thesenshin7 I still think Rika childhood was pretty hard, i think her mother and father dying was cause by a curse as it was said most unexplained death are causes by cruses (we don't know whether Rika had a ct or not )
@@AmethKonyak-vh3nhCould be her ct or she was a sociopath. She knew how to manipulate people, hated females and grown men. I wonder if she just hated the adults that didn’t fall for her manipulation tactics and called her out on it? That perhaps her being “nice” to Yuta’s sister was all a “front” but she actually disliked her.
@@Thesenshin7 Yup. I don't even want to know what Kenjaku did in the Heian Era for even Sukuna himself, a guy who doesn't care about anything and doesn't even understand the concept of love or mercy, feel disgusted by his actions lol.
Jjk could have been a peak horror/detective anime, I hate that they went the shonen route sometimes that’s what I liked about season 2 episode 1, it was captivating how they went on in that house with a never ending hallway, but then gojo shows up with shonen levels of power and they just annihilate the cursed spirit, destroying all the built up tension. I hated the scene so much at the end.
I feel like that was the point of that whole ep, with showing the gap of power between Gojo and the other sorcerers. But I do agree that JJK would be a cooler series if it had just stayed a horror series. But then it wouldn’t have survived the SJ axe.
Great video that really enhances the underlying goal of the story. While I'm more of a "fan" of the fans of JJK than actually knowing the depth of its story I find it clever how the mangaka skirted around the school setting rule and managed the characters.
Takaba fight made me forget how truly disturbing a person like Kenjaku is also 16:10, this isnt just for these volumes, this is for every 13th volume. 13 itself is also an unlucky number
Love your video, the horror aspect was one of the things that drew me to JJk, it's really sad it feels like half the content is missing, so much backstory we still could have had.
I’m a massive horror fan and I really wished gege leaned more into the horror of the world, hopefully he makes a horror manga to do what he couldn’t with jjk
the jjk ost is crazy good. some of these tracks have me feeling scared even just by listening to them lmao. the musical work in this anime is just top level.
I heard that gege initially wanted jjk to be darker, but had to lighten it up for shonen jump. i would love to see what he originally had in mind - rather, if jjk was fully a horror manga.
I think people have a tendency to gloss over the details of Rika's character and chalk her up to be a creepy kid. Guys, her dad dies after being alone with her for a weekend, and she's afraid of older men? There's a huge implication there that is quite obvious and it's irritating to see people say she's a sociopath/psychopath. And Gege has never confirmed that she wasn't abused, they have always been super vague about Rika, so I think it's obvious that she indeed was. Plus, sociopaths/psychopaths cannot fall in love, and it was obvious that Rika loved Yuta. I really hate the narrative she's evil because that's so against what the evidence says.
@@eggscrambled00 sociopaths can love, but they can’t be in love. They lack that empathy required for being in love, and those deep-seeded feelings are absent. Their feeling of ‘love’ is more of a biological response, rather than an emotional connection
13:12 What I first thought was that rika's ct was to kill those close to her. She killed her mother when she manifested her ct when she was five. And did the same thing to her father. The same thing was gonna happen to yuta but he somehow used his copy technique to copy rika's which prolly accidentally resulted in him killing her. But i think your theory makes more sense.
Honestly jjk could he a great horror with some adjustments. Like man imagine Kenjaku or Sukuna laughing in some dark room hunting you down. And don't even let me start on Mahito or Rika
Seeing yuta's backstory and how rika turned into a curse glued my eyesnto the screen when I want to look away its as if I'm watching a car crash in slow motion
brother, i cannot comprehend what i would even be able to do if i were any of normal people in jjk world. if our would could be like jjk, then i have seen a curse when i was 3-5th grade, i just couldnt do anything when i saw that thing
I do believe that supernatural beings do exist, those being Jinn which are much like curses but not necessarily hostile all the time. I am Muslim and we are told about them and do believe in them That’s why
8:36 I did NOT know that. That makes that arc so much more crazy to me. What if Yuta was there and had been dispatched, what if he got there before Tadachi died?? I think that would've made a great moment to develop Yuta's more forgiving or more justice-oriented side.
It is after all still a theory. Many people have problems with the timeline. It still felt like a direct reference to me though, even if Gege just wanted to do it and didn’t bother with it being accurate 100% Yuta going there and Rika pointed her crusty finger at Tadachi saying something like “that man 🧍🏻♂️ drove over my brain” would’ve been a cool “nah I’d rage” moment
There's a huge amount of things that make jjk go from the cool anime fighting shonen to the horrifying and disturbing horror anime. Imagine being someone living in the heian era seeing your whole village be burnt to the ground as people around you are being cut in pieces by literally nothing. Imagine being in a public area and seeing people around you be set ablaze or transfigured into a disgusting deformed human. These are only subtle details. Kenjaku is one of the most horrifying characters in jjk. Being able to take over any deceased person. He reproduced with curses to create curse/human amalgamations. Gojo has some silly moments in season one, but it's all to cope with his past. Thats why when the hidden inventory arc ends, we see Gojo lifting his blindfold to see that his students waking him up. There are still MANY things that I missed that makes jjk really horrifying, but most of them just have to do character's deaths and we already get other character's gruesome perspectives. Seeing your mentor's half burnt body be exploded. Your friends eye explodes out of it's socket. It is a very complex feeling that I get when I think about jjk normally and jjk's horror aspects at the same time.
I wish shonen jump had allowed Jjk to develop a bit more. Allowed things to progress naturally and probably would’ve helped with the ending. Giving us more time with mahito and letting cursed spirits be a true threat for more than a few arcs.
He would have been 13. Assuming he’s 18 now. Rika died 5 years ago. That’s also assuming she is Yuta’s age which is 16… not very clearly confirmed, still a theory and still possible

The most disturbing scene was i think the last episode of Shibuya Incident the name was Shibuya, gate close or sum. Its when that girl was hiding inside of the store and a curse just lured her in. Creeped me the tf out..
lets not forget that one curse that appeared in a single panel during the culling games that scared the shit out of a US soldier which looked absolutely fucking terrifying
9:55 I was an anime only so I didn't know abour Rika much before i read the manga. and uh. i always knew something was off about this girl. the moment she looked at her cursed spirit self and said "oh look at me! I'm so pretty! i LOVE IT!!!!!! (begins absolutely decimating thay cursed spirit)", i knew she was NOT normal lmao. and in turn, Yuta definitely has got a few screws loose. I mean bro kissed not one, but two cursed spirits. one of them was a cockroach, for the record. and that's why he's a special grade sorcerer. you can't keep your sanity with a job like that. edit: i like the theory that rika had an innate cursed technique. it makes sense why she turned into a cursed spirit after she died with the rest of the lore.
Not to mention that Kenny is the freakiest character in the show, someone that both Gojo and Sukuna were creeped out by. Yet Yuta gives no F and kills him quickly. Yuta is mad ☠️
You know, you can see cursed spirit when you are about to die, so i really want to know if you think youre about to die then you can see the cursed spirit or when you are about die then you see cursed spirit tbh i think when i think im bouta die then i can see the cursed spirit
Could’ve easily become one of the greatest horror manga of all time had it been the intention Imagine a more detective like plot where characters solve mysteries and investigate curses like we saw a little in early jjk
At 8:32 you say the guy that died was the guy that hit Rika while driving a year ago. But the math isn’t mathing cause around the time of season 1 was when Yuta was a 2nd year and when Rika died it was when they were kids? Or am I missing something
It definitely doesn't surprise me to hear that the Cursed Womb Arc came earlier then it was supposed to. Nobara was just introduced a chapter before the arc began. Not to Gege did Nobara any justice once he had the time.
I feel like what made a lot of ppl remember jjk has very big horror spots is that one panel of the scary ass curse and the soldiers like holy shit gege locked in in that specific panel
Thank you for your videos. I love them. These analysys are great with a lot of detail and a joy to listen to. Have you thought about doing a video about the social critique made by Gege? like the higher ups, Nayoa and all of those. Gege seems to dislike the conformity of society.
Great suggestion! and thanks a lot for the comment and glad you enjoy the videos. i've talked about Naoya in older videos, Maki and Mai analysis and the Zenin Clan one. as for the higher ups, i just don't think there is enough material to work with, they aren't that relevant. and i expressed my ideas on that side of the story in the Masamichi Yaga video, which is one of favorites.
yall wanna know whats crazy to think about? gojo meeting kenjaku in geto's body. Imagine your best friend, your very best friend who you watched drift off and descend into evil and madness, the same best friend you had to kill with your own hands, the only person you had alongside you during your entire life of isolation and sadness, reappearing a year later and trapping you in some sort of flesh cube that completely immobilizes you. He's alive, but it's not him anymore. You know it, you know damn well that isn't your best friend, you can sense it. As he removes his scarred, cleanly cut forehead to reveal a brain with a mouth, you watch as the saliva from the brain's mouth flows down the face of your best friend's eerie, toothy smile. You try to wake up your best friend, you try to bring him back and it works, his hand flying up to grapple onto the thing's neck. But the thing controlling his body easily restrains his hand and even taunts the both of you. As the cubes that are currently surrounding you begin to close in, the thing controlling your friend's body looks at you, his mouth curling up into that fake, cold grin.

Oh really ! Thanks for letting me know. That’s one part we are glad is confirmed at least, still leaves a huge mess.
@@Thesenshin7 I still think Rika childhood was pretty hard, i think her mother and father dying was cause by a curse as it was said most unexplained death are causes by cruses (we don't know whether Rika had a ct or not )

Understandable.
I really hope the story has some form of spin off later on, like in a star wars way where a bunch of creators can add to the world in their own way
I feel like that was the point of that whole ep, with showing the gap of power between Gojo and the other sorcerers.
Thanks for the comment !
He gaslighted shonen jump.
Takaba fight made me forget how truly disturbing a person like Kenjaku is
also 16:10, this isnt just for these volumes, this is for every 13th volume. 13 itself is also an unlucky number

the jjk ost is crazy good. some of these tracks have me feeling scared even just by listening to them lmao. the musical work in this anime is just top level.
Facts ! i don't even know where this confirmation about her even came from, the implications are there.
Sociopaths can fall in love
@@eggscrambled00 sociopaths can love, but they can’t be in love. They lack that empathy required for being in love, and those deep-seeded feelings are absent. Their feeling of ‘love’ is more of a biological response, rather than an emotional connection
13:12 What I first thought was that rika's ct was to kill those close to her. She killed her mother when she manifested her ct when she was five. And did the same thing to her father. The same thing was gonna happen to yuta but he somehow used his copy technique to copy rika's which prolly accidentally resulted in him killing her. But i think your theory makes more sense.
That sounds cool ! Never thought about it that way
8:38 I don’t think the time line matches though as jjk 0 takes place 1 year before but rika dies like wayy before

Seeing yuta's backstory and how rika turned into a curse glued my eyesnto the screen when I want to look away its as if I'm watching a car crash in slow motion
it was literally a car crash too
That Restaurant Scene from Season 1 still scares the Sh*t out of me.
The Jogoat incident ?
Thinking that Rika killed her parents is horrific
It's literally a series about exorcism the scary aspect should be shown more tbf
Season 2 episode 1 the intro scene where geto walks through an ally. He sees a curse eating two people and that is proof enough the series is horror.
brother, i cannot comprehend what i would even be able to do if i were any of normal people in jjk world.

@@Thesenshin7 hmmmmmm..
Well i got news...it recently ended with sukuna giving us the middle finger

I did NOT know that.
It still felt like a direct reference to me though, even if Gege just wanted to do it and didn’t bother with it being accurate 100%
Yuta going there and Rika pointed her crusty finger at Tadachi saying something like “that man 🧍🏻♂️ drove over my brain” would’ve been a cool “nah I’d rage” moment
It's scary to know that normal people can't even see curses, so imagine you just see the air eating someone
Please make a part two of this or make it a series. You explore horror so well.

I wish shonen jump had allowed Jjk to develop a bit more. Allowed things to progress naturally and probably would’ve helped with the ending. Giving us more time with mahito and letting cursed spirits be a true threat for more than a few arcs.
Absolutely
Tadashi would’ve only been 7 or 8 years old when rika died, assuming he’s older than yuta and rika.
He would have been 13. Assuming he’s 18 now. Rika died 5 years ago. That’s also assuming she is Yuta’s age which is 16… not very clearly confirmed, still a theory and still possible

You try to wake up your best friend, you try to bring him back and it works, his hand flying up to grapple onto the thing's neck. But the thing controlling his body easily restrains his hand and even taunts the both of you.
