WHAT MY MOM THINKS ABOUT GERMANY

    Hey yall!
This video was quite easy to make and is as simple as I could have possibly made it (no cuts, no jumps, and no cropping) just my mom and I having a conversation!
I made a video with my mom about her trip to Germany. This was her first trip out of the USA and it really meant a lot to her (and me). My mother had a few reservations about Germany from the media and people she met but the experiences she had were generally positive.

Hey everyone! Today I am asking my mom about her visit to Germany. It is more "casual" and a conversation between my mother and I about her experiences. I hope you guys enjoy the video and if you have any questions for my mom about me (what I was like when I was younger) don't be afraid to ask! Love yall

Maybe you could do a second video about her (and your brothers) experiences at her visit, based on the questions under this video and the questions put under your community request two days ago, that didn't make the cut.
Also I noticed a little typo at the thumbnail of this video: your mom "visted" you in Germany according to the thumbnail... :-)

Coming from the airport for the first time I did ask my then future wife, somewhat incredulously, after having passed the 6th sign on the highway just how big this City is. She asked me which city I was speaking about. "Ausfahrt!" We had to pull into the next rest-stop for her to burst into uncontrollable laughter.

I have had a simliar experience as a German at Paris /France. I vistited a girlfriend there. Another German girl has been with us on the Paris Metro (=underground). We changed trains at a station. On a station door this girl recogniced the written word 'Sortie'= exit. There she said to us: "Oh, 'Sortie', I know this station. I have been here yesterday."

It's been a year, but I just have to reply. I spent my childhood in Italy and have a German mother, so we were often in Germany. I did understand a bit of German, but I never wanted to speak or learn it. At some point I also noticed the signs on the Autobahn that said "Ausfahrt" and I also asked: "But Ausfahrt must be a very large city if there are so many signs". It was also very, very funny for my parents. My (Italian) uncle was parked somewhere and my father asked him if he could remember the name of the street where he parked...and he replied "Sure thing! Einbahnstraße". 😂

I didn't take that grandchildren comment as a wish for grandchildren in general. I guess her point was that she has nothing to do in germany. Starting over doesn't get easier with progressing age. But with grandchildren involved, she will have a purpose and might actually be needed on a regular (if not daily) basis. That's a great starting point to build a new life around.

As far as I know they owe you a free glass of tab water if you explicitly ask for it. If it comes with a decent order from the menu or alongside a cup of coffee, they are usually cool with it. Once I witnessed a guy who would sit in a restaurant, smoke cigarette after cigarette and when asked for his order, he wanted the charge free glass of water only...that got him into quit an argument with the waitress 😀

It very much depends on the dialect! I live in Hessia, where there are few gutteral sounds, but was completely surprised at the "softness" of a "southern" accent, that I encountered on the train platform in Dachau.
The woman, who I asked, was insulted that I hadn't recognized her language as german! For what I had heard in the U.S., it was simply too soft and melodic.

    • @Andrea-77777
      @Andrea-77777 Рік тому

That's not quite true, English was a Germanic language until it was deliberately mixed with Romance. Table, for example, is in French, as in English, only the pronunciation is different. If English had not been mixed with Romance, then everyone would probably recognize on their own which language stem English is based on. For example, Engländer, in old German books was actually written Engelländer, meaning angels and countries. In that one has now taken away an L in German, it is only a name for a country and one can no longer recognize the meaning. In the word Angelsachsen (German = Angel and Saxon = Angel means in German= a device for catching fish eutsch) for example, it is in German, for Germans no longer to recognize but in English means the word Angel = angel. So that the English-speaking peoples no longer recognize who they are, one has then exchanged the word Angel with the Roman word Angelo = angel, so that these also no longer recognize the meaning. In Germany, one language reform follows the other, so that it will be impossible at some point to draw conclusions about origin and relationship from the language.

It's hysterical.. Your mom is freaking out like OMG i am going to die today.. Mike is completely calm and appearing very bold and confident as he goes what 100 miles per hour with his in laws.. What ? .. Over 100 mph ? .. And then the topper is Cameron in the back smiling and loving the whole thing .. I have to admit it is my guilty pleasure ..

You have a cool mom. If I take a long plane trip, I have to admit that what I do I can't admit to taking, but it sure makes my flight more "relaxed". Don't do drugs kids.

Hey beautiful Hayley&Mom 🌻your mama is very charming and funny...enjoyed your vlog great content:)) I’m so glad your mom had a great time in germany and everyone treated her well! My mother still has to visit me in Las Vegas...the sad thing is she speaks not the english language and pretty much no one speaks german over here only a few families who moved here long time ago or the ones who are visiting. She’s scared to make the flight by herself and it’s so long too, and my mom is 78 years young lol😝:)) In Germany many people speak English you don’t feel to lost when you get there. Hopefully one day my mom can make the jump over the ocean lol! Wishing you and your family a wonderful week in Florida, much love Marion❣️

I wasn‘t able to drink the tap water in restaurants in the US because of the chlorine it contained. So I ordered mineral water and then the ice cubes in my mineral water tasted like chlorine. 😅

Not to leave you out: I just at Antoinette's channel had to post my recipe for applecake. Pls try this one:
    Applecake Alsatia style:
    You want to mix
    250g flour
    75g sugar
125g butter (at room temperature) and
a pinch of salt. And to that, add
125 ml of white wine. Let this rest for 30min and then cover the bottom and the sides of a 26 to 28 cm spring form with it. (Non-stick or butter-coated.)
While the batter is resting, you peel cut in halfes and core about 1kg of apples.
Cut the halfes lenghwise with a knife. Just slits. Don’t cut through. Place in your baking pan and sprinkle with sugar. This allows the juices to come out and caramalise with the sugar.
I fill up all the gaps with little slices of apple. But that’s just me. Bake in the preheatet stove for some 30 min at 225°C (circulating air). Be careful not to burn the batter!
During that, you whip up 125ml of heavy whipping cream. And add 2 eggs, ½ of a lemon’s cest, some 50g sugar and (optional) 2 letters of vanilla sugar or some vanilla aroma.
You pour this mixture on to your cake and bake it for another 10 min. (Again: eyeballing the colour.) Done! (Best, after letting it sit in a cold and dark room for 1 day. To allow the wine aroma to mingle with the rest.)
Greetings from the far north of Germany!

Hayley, as I said before.. I do know now where you got some of your good looks! I`m glad and happy that your Mom enjoyed her stay in Germany - if you remember I asked you if she liked her stay here the last time you did the chit chat thing. So I`m happy. Hopefully she`ll go back over there and see some more of the country - not just Munich. I could tell by the video of her, your brother, and Mike doing the driving.. she looked a bit worried in the passenger seat there.. but I think she liked it..lol . I also liked your Mom`s suggestion - asking her about you.. That`s a cool idea.

Your mom does sounds and look absolutely wonderful. Your whole family appears to be wholesome - a word that I think relates to a tight-knit family without too much inner struggles?

As an American that moved to France last year, I drink A LOT of water during the day. I'm adjusting to the water thing but you can at least get a carafe of tap water in France at restaurants and not forced to buy a bottle of water like in Germany. The French are actually pushing tap water more now because they see the complete huge waste of water bottles.

    • @Julia-lk8jn
      @Julia-lk8jn 2 роки тому

Yep, I wish Germany would catch on to how much waste bottled water is. The tap water in Germany is strictly controlled, and if drink water from plastic bottles, you'll be drinking additives from the plastic.
Water bottles? There's almost as much energy used to transporting the bottles as for the water, and for cripes sake, you can just get the water out of the tap.
It feels ridiculous that there was the whole thing about no straws / no plastic straws, when it would be a fairly easy thing to just force restaurants to sell tab water at one Euro / liter. they'd probably make the same profit and it'd save tons of energy and waste.

I know it seems awkward to pay for water, but you have to remember it's bottled water, not tap water, plus we don't really have to tip, so a part of what we pay for the water /soda or food goes in the salaries of people who work in a restaurant. It's a different system, but there's a logic behind it :).
