  • This video is of my 1956 Packard Patrician. Owned over 5 years. Bought from an estate sale of a Packard enthusiast who bought the car in California and move it to Phoenix AZ.
When I bought the car, had the engine and all the mechanicals checked out. Upgraded to Coker Radial tires (less than 500 miles on tires) and upgraded the front friction brakes to disk brakes (I Have the original front friction brake assemblies).
"1955 Packard Caribbean - Jay Leno’s Garage" Great video with the same features as the 1956. He spends a lot time explaining the Torsion-Bar Suspension and Weight Load-Leveling system and great ride. He also mentions the modification replacing the Packard transmission with a Chrysler transmission which my 1956 has instead of the Packard transmission.

This was when cars were more than just functional, they were also "works of art."

Even in the late 50's, I thought these cars looked like Checker Cabs. "Old fashioned" as I used to say.
I remember being obsessed with Cadillacs and "push button" windows.

This is an exceptional car! The 55 and 56 Packard's were great looking cars. So glad this one was saved. There was a plan for Studebaker/Packard to merge with Hudson/Nash to be more competitive with the Big 3. Never happened but it would have been interesting how it would have turned out if they all did merge. Probably would not have had Packard badges on Studebaker bodies for 57 and 58. Great colors on the car inside and outside.

In my humble opinion, the best cars of the 50s were the Studebaker-Parckards, for their beauty, design, elegance. Fortunately, gems like this are still preserved. Too bad the Americans did not appreciate these brands and have let them disappear.

Packarbakers were an affront to the Packard name and reputation. Dick Teague’s styling on the 55/56 line was sensational and true to Packard’s greatness - just ask the man who owns one!

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! "Packardbakers" were a disgrace. True Packards came to an end with the 1956 model year.

Thankyou for that video...this gorgeous car from a time when American cars from 1949 until the Asian invasion were supreme, makes me feel sorry for my 6 year old grandson here in Australia. He will be driving something that likely resembles an electric milk cart.......and am I correct that Packard was one American marque that the Soviets took a shine to,........................... early Zils bore a striking resemblance to these beautiful Packards?

Had an opportunity to buy a 4 door same color inside out, plastic seat covers, seller wouldn't budge on price or it was to sentimental.

i luuuv this car...so stately. most people prefer 2 doors, and the 400 is spectacular, but something about a 4 door with all that extra metal and glass, and being able to pile in the family and granny in the back...so much 'there' there. Man does this have a beautiful interior. I guess there was no way to mate the pushbutton selector to the chrysler trans...

love these, i'm looking for a 4 door sedan model that's in need of a restoration; i'm a hot rodder at heart, not a purist. tearing into a survivor for a project is sacrilege as far as i'm concerned. but a restorable example a little further "gone" than the blue book penny pinchers would bother with - or worse, deem a 'parts car' *shudders* - that could give its rare parts to a factory-spec restoration while i fab something fitting for the build. i'm into personality rather than horsepower....call me George Barris's weird cat from the 21st century, haha....so she'll be a beaut' when she's finished!
such a stunning gal this Patrician is. the red and white are perfectly matched and proportioned. that's the way to do a two-color paint job. the chrome is minty, as well. underside very, very clean. and that interior!~ oh goodness i'm falling in love all over again!!~
    does she have a name?
    thank you!

Curious about the A/C. The compressor mounts where the oil filter is so with factory air, the filter was relocated to the passenger side. Since this has it in the non-A/C location, does that mean that the engine has been changed?

I had a 56 Patrician with a/c. The system didn’t work well if it was over 95. It caused the car to heat up as well. It cost $4000 to renovate it so it would work. I had the car 10 years. Where are you?
