Your lion king video is awesome! I like how you had a narrative of the Kimba reference subtly all the way through leading to when you actually talk about it. Also hilarious as always especially when you yell kimba at the end... Thanks for the great content!!
I know that throw away line about an "Arrival" fandom was just a joke, but I freakin love that movie and would be happy to be part of a fandom for it if I could find enough people who feel the same way.
James is right to be super proud of that Lion King video. The video oozed with enthusiasm and admiration for the film and more so the passion of the filmmakers. I think the discussion in this episode highlighted why live action adaptations of animation can be so frustrating. With books and comics and plays and radio dramas and so on - we are seeing the work be transitioned into a different medium. There is going to be a blatant and expected change in terms of the overall look and how the viewer experiences the piece. Even in something like Watchmen that tries to be right off the page, it still is a totally different beast when it comes to watching vs reading. Even scenes that are the exact same carry some level of disconnect cause they slow down to make it look like a live action mock-up. However you know it has to be changed, and no matter how off the page, it will still be transitioning from still images to motion. However that transition is more troubling for animation, cause animation is already in motion, more than any other medium we are under total control of the animators and directors. Not just what we are seeing, but the entire world on screen is deliberately stylized the way they want it to look. You can certainly have films dripping with style, but not to the same degree. Even here with CGI animation....well being animation; there is still that feeling that the color pallet and deliberate work behind every brushstroke is missing. CGI animated films like this are something I really firmly support, but when it comes to adapting animation into photorealistic CGI, I just cannot see the motivation. All that you are left with is a shot for shot paint-job, now lacking the style and deliberate animation choices that made it great. They can carry the shots over sure, and it looks amazing. But in terms of actually sitting there and watching the film, I would rather watch the work that is more stylized and fluid, than something trying to portray it with the aesthetic of the world I know. Animation allows me to be at the mercy of the creators of the work, in a way that CGI animation can, just perhaps not when trying to reconstruct traditional animation
I have to see this Robin Hood movie now, just so I can laugh my arse off in the theatre as I remember all the points the boys made in this episode. Lol
Would you guys ever consider having a section on video game news? Would love to hear your takes on the whole Fallout 76 and Diablo Immortals thing. Thanks for the content. Still the only podcast I listen to.
They should do a series where it's just them attempting to explain things they have limited knowledge of. Kind of like Drunk History. Like one episode James would do some light reading on a topic (eg WW2), then attempt to explain some part of it to Mason. The more obscure the event in question or the more relentless the questioning, the better. I'd listen to half an hour (or more) of that easy.
Not going to lie, that was a terribly/ funny place to put an ad, because it ended up: “Do you think Leto’s ashamed of his role?” “No I think he’s saying I WOULD RECOMMEND TEMPRAPEDIC To all of my friends!”
There is a part in this video where I distinctly remember James yelling "fuck off" angrily. If anyone hears it, could you please give me the time stamp? I remember laughing hysterically when he said it.
Just saw that the swamp thing movie is on Amazon video. Would find it hilarious if you guys did a caravan of garbage on it or even perhaps a commentary of you two watching the film.
I'm late, but I just saw Robin Hood and by 20 minutes in I was furious that I"d spent money on it. We talked about leaving to find a bar (because we were the only people in the theater). I stuck it out, but I'm not sure why.
I hate when ppl see reboot and remakes and say stuff like "this is just a cash grab or this will ruin the original"- as if they dont have the original to enjoy. This new lion king should be looked at as a remastered version. You dont have to watch it, you are just crying just to cry
I literally did not know about this Robin Hood movie until this podcast. Even if you mentioned it on other episodes, I've since forgotten about it, and will actively avoid this movie now that you've talked about it.
I'm going to watch this movie, on my phone, in portrait mode, with the phone faced away from me. Best movie ever rating for me, I'll tell you that much. OH! you guys should review The Christmas Chronicles with Kurt Russell as Santa, it's bloody good mates. Kurt is amazing as Santa (he has that twinkle in his eye). I like the direction they went with it, they bloody made Santa like a Superhero. Give it a go, mates.
ohdannyboy it seems to me like they are just remaking all of them with the technology available now. Back then cartoons (illustrations) were the only way to get those grand ideas onto the big screen, that's why we got such great anime films like Akira or Perfect Blue. But now we can make films that look closer to real life, a look you are WAY more inclined to connect with because you've actually seen these images. It's all a cash grab, why else make films? At least we get to see it again, that's all I care about. I love it and I love the prospect of more.
uhhhh first of all, theres a thing called uncanny valley. Second, live action or "more realistic" animation doesn't make you connect more--good voice acting, score, and story do that. In the same way better graphics don't necessarily make better games. The original cindarella is a better movie than something like Zootopia. Do you want a live action or mo-cap akira remake? I don't recall ghost in the shell being even remotely good. EDIT: and if you want to see it again, lion king is on blu ray. just watch it lol
8:16 I got the first Lego Movie as an ad, and I LOVED it. First time I saw it to. They did it for Black Friday, or as they put it, Brick Friday. Also, I saw King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. A piece of shit film, I had to see it for class surrounding King Arthur, and I hated it.
Snoopy Fod Honestly as shit as the movie was his performance was one of the singular highlights. Don’t think most fans realize how difficult it is to properly embody the Joker character.
@@WriteWhatISee It was certainly one of the most memorable parts of that movie, because it was so poorly done. And people realize how hard it is to make a good Joker, that's why we don't see live action Jokers often, and when we do, we expect them to be more than "not bad".
I think the point of his story got cut out.. he is more than likely Jason Todd or whatever version of robin became a version of the Joker. I think the real joker (Joaquin Phoenix maybe??) Beat the shit out of Jason Todd which is why the robin suit had the jokers writing on it. Bruce even said something like "even the good guys don't stay good" in Batman v superman. Jared Letos joker never actually made it onto the screen, what we saw was the cut and edit from the studio.
The ballad of buster Scruggs. You can like whatever you like. You're wrong..but you can like what you like. I am surprised Mason. I thought you had more taste sir. Did you actually watch the movie? Beginning to end? No joy, no plot, no dialogue...well hardly any. This movie was conceived in hate. From beginning to end. No spoilers here but holy shit sir are you serious? You can like what you like..You're wrong.. but you can like what you like.
I always get a good laugh from this podcast. But for some reason I absolutely lost it when James said "Seal Team Hood". Lmao!
You guys probably make more money off this podcast than the entire Robin Hood movie will make tbh
Got 'em!
What happened to ring-a-ding-ding lets predict a thing
Sandra Bullock won an oscar and a razzie in the same year, and showed up to accept her razzie in person :D
Sylesh WhycantIleavethisblank what film?

That movie was terrible.
Yessss, random Red Dwarf reference. I feel fulfilled.
Yes! Love Red Dwarf

direcircumstances,
I love Arrival.
Also, there’s always the director.
Robin Hood looked like a Game is On contender from the moment the first trailer dropped.
TJ Hastie,
Yep.

🎶 Shot through the heart and you’re too late! 🎶 🤣🤣🤣

Has Mason always said, "mmhmm" this often? He sounds so sassy and I love it!
They should definitely make a Back To The Future sequel that uses Michael J Fox's Parkinsons as a side effect of time travel.
And im doing a fart.
ah so thats the origin of the grey hair

The backstory of Robin Hood in this was so similar to Green Arrow too
A Thousand Words with Eddie Murphy was recentish and pretty good!

50 shades of Harvey Dent 😂

Listening to the Robin Hood review without ever even seeing the trailer and I cannot figure out wtf that movie could possibly be about.
Why is Robin Hood gonna shoot Simba in the thumbnail no
The best Robin Hood movie is still Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
Simply because it contains the only Robin Hood who, unlike other Robin Hoods, can speak with an English accent. Lol
Also it's hilarious.
@@ThreadBomb i second that emotion!
