Nobody Knows for Certain | Afrah Shafiq | Very Small Feelings

Afrah Shafiq’s experiential art installation beautifully embodies the intersection of art and play, a central theme in our ongoing exhibition, “Very Small Feelings” (VSF).
Inspired by the vibrant cultural exchange between India and the USSR in the 1970s and 1980s, “Nobody Knows For Certain” explores a period when friendships were forged among children from the two nations through the tradition of pen pals. This work commemorates a special moment in time when beautifully illustrated children’s books journeyed
from the Soviet Union to India and were translated into various Indian languages. Shafiq transforms these stories into a visually compelling video game showcased alongside archival excerpts from this era.
