The first time you feel a rib crack during CPR is a bit nauseating, but I always tell my students during training that we are doing CPR because the patient is effectively dead. You cannot hurt a patient worse than dead, everything else we can fix later.
My instructor also taught us that. I think that thought will really help me if I ever have to perform CPR irl. I've been part of our company's first aid team for almost a decade, never had a CPR case in those years. During our last yearly refresher course the company had hired some actors playing different scenarios. Like a hypoglycemic diabetic or a person who'd fallen of a ladder and was showing signs of shock while having no external wounds. I had the gasping heart attack case. We were (of course) instructed to not do full CPR on the actors, but bend our elbows instead. I placed my hands on her chest and I was taken aback for a second by the fact that her chest felt soft and warm. And I was confused by my response, because of course a real body feels different than a plastic dummy... I also had to overcome a bit of embarrassment for the fact that my hands touched her breasts during CPR (even though I'm a woman myself) and cutting her clothing and bra away when my colleague arrived with the practice AED. The actress told me afterwards that this is exactly why she participates in these trainings: so that we won't hesitate when we ever have to perform CPR on a woman and just do everything we need to do as quickly as we can.
Thank you for making this point. I had taken CPR numerous times but was not sure I could actually do it because of the rib breaking until an instructor said, "you don't do CPR until there is no breathing or pulse, so the person is dead - you aren't going to make them any worse." That was a paradigm shift for me.
What I don't get is why they didn't fire him on a technicality? Like "we've received a lot of complaints (even if it's a lie), so we have to fire you" . Were they afraid of him? Did they care about their reputation more than the lives of others?

I have a question. Is it better to just keep doing the "Stayin Alive" compressions on the chest and blowing air into the lungs every few seconds or just keep doing the compressions without the air?

For me, the film exposed the terrible American healthcare industry where a single mother with cardiomyopathy, in need of a heart transplant, must keep her condition a secret while she awaits the months-long period before her insurance kicks in.
Yeah for me, the film was a scratching assessment of the US healthcare industry which seems far more interested in money and reputation than you know, the actual care and health of its patients. I also couldn’t believe a nurse had to wait a year to get her health insurance. I kept thinking watching the film, surely those who work in healthcare would be entitled to it straightaway.

In my country we had some years ago a nurse that would inject potassium chloride in end-stage patients (he is in jail, btw). But just going to the store room and injecting insulin into random bags of saline is just too nuts to imagine...

He's right about CPR. I'd had classes, but I was not ready for how hard I had to press, how long I'd have to continue until help arrived, or the weird crunchy sound of doing it right. My suggestion if you're a little older is to keep up the cardio and get a home defibrillator. Someone's life might depend on it.
Yes CPR is quite the workout. I had to do it for 6 minutes to pass my exam and I was quite exhausted after that. So Im really happy that wr now have a network of civilians with a valid CPR certificate in my country. When you call an ambulance the dispatcher also activates this civilian network. The 10 people closest to the location get an alarm from the app. 5 get the request to go immediately to the victim. 5 are asked to first get the defibrillator closest to the victim. If you are able to go you respond "Yes" and go. If not enough people respond, they alert 10 more. I really like this system, because it means that the victim and the person helping him or her gets help quickly. Also there are more people present who know CPR, so you can take turns untill the ambulance arrives. And most of the time a defibrillator arrives before the ambulance which saves minutes and lives. In rural areas it can still take a few minutes before the first helper arrives, but even then its reassuring to know that more help is on the way than just the ambulance.
I told a former boss I liked getting a woman to assist in IT helpline. Most of the women would either have a fast solution, or would be quick to put in a ticket if it were going to be more complicated. Ninety percent of the men would dither and waste time. Movie was excellent, script was quick even in the deliberately slow reflective moments , no cheap effects no melodrama. One suspects the low ratings would be from the 9 hospitals thay faced zero accountability even the one that refused to hand over documents to police using "patient privacy" as an excuse.
As someone in extreme chronic pain, I have to say the phenomenon of so-called compassion killing by nurses doesn't concern me at all. Then again, I have zero fears about death and no desire to live as long as I possibly can like most people. But, that said I totally understand why this kind of thing would scare everyone else.

Bureaucracy standing in the way of medical treatment is exhausting and I've been too sick lately to make the phone calls to figure it out.

Maybe he just saw how his outfit looked in the studio monitor.
@@daveclark8337 he looks hot asf what r u talking about

Movie was excellent, script was quick even in the deliberately slow reflective moments , no cheap effects no melodrama. One suspects the low ratings would be from the 9 hospitals thay faced zero accountability even the one that refused to hand over documents to police using "patient privacy" as an excuse.
I am scared to death of something like this happening to me
Its sicko shit
They just arrested a dr that did this
Amd a nurse in NC
As someone in extreme chronic pain, I have to say the phenomenon of so-called compassion killing by nurses doesn't concern me at all. Then again, I have zero fears about death and no desire to live as long as I possibly can like most people. But, that said I totally understand why this kind of thing would scare everyone else.
@@KatieGray1 i live on pain
Cervical
Hands
And i use Cannabis ( legal) medicine
And it really helps alot with everything
I was just in hospital fir an emergency gut adhesive surgery ? And had the nicest best nurses
And would have been pissed if some nurse od me on insulin!!! Or heart meds
If i want to take myself out ill
Do it on good drugs & on MY TERMS
@@KatieGray1 I'm so sorry you have chronic pain.
@@l.a.3479 Thank you, and thank you for having compassion for strangers. It's an incredible quality to have.
@@lovepet4565 Oh yeah sorry I didn't mean the way this guy did it in a random way. I only meant that my quality of life with pain now is such that I wouldn't mind not having to figure out the logistics for myself one day. But... I'm not without any hope, I do have a prescription for medical marijuana (I've put it off for the last decade because of the cost but now it's kind of my only good option) but my state's database messed up and pulled my old address from the driver's license registry and I can't figure out how to fix it so I'm not sure if they expect me to apply using my old address then immediately change it afterwards or what. Bureaucracy standing in the way of medical treatment is exhausting and I've been too sick lately to make the phone calls to figure it out.
It's not proper CPR unless you crack a rib.
@Lizabeth Craig I may have been facetious.
Forgive me but the thumbnail for this video looks like Stephen throwing a Dracarys at Eddie 😂
Stephens secret power -fire breathing 🤣 love it ❤
haha that's true
No
YEAH! Go Montclair!!!
Performing chest compressions ain't no joke. Creepy AF. And it's exhausting.

The thumbnail makes it look like Stephen is spitting fire into his hand
Brilliant actor. Yes, you don't "almost" break ribs, you often "do" break ribs. Eddie, what's up with the weird turtle neck? Costume change, please.

You do know he was fantastic in Les Miserable! Worthy of mention!
You can break ribs.... I had to do it and broke the guy's sternum; I think. It is nervewracking... And yes: Staying Alive. And it is exhausting.
Great film - but so damn dark! Difficult to see the faces of the actors - seems as if many films recently have the mistaken idea that dark is artistic...nope, it is just purely irritating and frustrating!
oo tense clip
