Wink Martindale is a LEGEND!!!! I watched him on many game shows growing up, most notably Gambit (years before the X-Men character of that name) and Tic-Tac-Dough. He also recorded "Deck of Cards", story of a soldier who had a 52 deck of cards and what it represents.

I love Wink Martindale, I love Art James, and I'm really trying to enjoy this game to the fullest despite it's flaws but I cannot. This game is pretty much a snorefest. It's drop dead boring. I almost cannot wait for this to end.

The Bermuda flight was provided by National Airlines, for which Patty Maloney (long before "Far Out Space Nuts") worked as a keypunch operator.

The name of the show is perfect for an early 70's gameshow. I'll take a wild guess and say an alternative name they thought of was "swapping partners". lol.

the logo is shaped like a pill and the hubby's last name is "Sprung". this show was a Simpsons or Family Guy parody just waiting. 😁

Might as well have called it "Swingers". That's what the title implies, right? Lol

Looks like all the budget went on the prizes and someone forgot about the set! Love the mechanical clunk of those old scoreboards though...

there's an odd charm. it can't possibly look overly produced, but feels like something a bunch of people would do with a camcorder in a garage. but not in a bad way...

Definitely a pilot, that set was ROUGH! You'd hope they'd have juiced it up if it actually went to series.

Definitely an interesting concept. Would definitely need some ironing out before going to series.

At this time Mr. James was still hosting the 3w's. Had this show made it to syndication he probably would have continued doing 3w's. But if this show made it to network tv, 3w's probably would have been given a new host.

    • @artkurtz9238
      @artkurtz9238 2 роки тому +1

Or more likely Art would have stayed with "The Who What or Where Game" and this would have a new host. The 3Ws still ran several more years and was a hit; Art would likely stay there.

Looks like it was shot in either late 1971 or early 1972.

Okay, this is a different spin on the show "I'll Bet." A less opaque explanation of the scoring would have helped me understand what was going on. More interesting trivia questions would have helped too.

A strange show - very confusing to follow with the scoreboard scores and the official scores. Even more confusing when they changed back to their original partners and the scores changed again! There was an element of a workable show there though. The idea that they didn't know their scores or each others scores was in part the strategy on our UK version of Jeopardy! - the contestants only ever knew their own scores, they didn't know each others scores.

    • @fredmckinney8933

About UK Jeopardy!, that really puts a spin on things. Kinda like what you get when you cross Jeopardy! with 21.

Interesting concept, basing the score on if the scorers think one is correct or not. That lime-green background was rather funky. But the only game show I can think of right offhand that had a predominantly green set that enjoyed any real degree of success was Tattle Tales.

This definitely looks like a run-thru to me. I can see why it didn't sell. it requires viewers to carry a pen, paper, and a calculator with them. If you didn't look at the official score, the points don't matter until the very end.

I guess this was supposed to be a cross between a game show and swingers party. I wonder which partner they went home with after the show? Art James was a very good and personable host. One the shows he hosted, "The Magnificent Marble Machine," was a personal favorite because even if the show lagged a little in entertainment, it was fun to watch the contestants play a giant pinball machine.

This 1 Really confused me. I saw the silent answers on the screen, but I thought they were gonna do some kinda recap at the end. I realized too late, they'd already been showing if the opponents were right or wrong.
In my confusion, I didn't enjoy it enough to watch it twice, but now I gotta... just to see what the answers were, and who got what right or wrong.
The ending is greatly surprising though.

Talk about going the opposite direction that "The New Price is Right" did, with the lack of a real set, or real production. They didn't take the chance of failure at all, and was a good idea.

So it doesn't matter if the person answering the question gets it right when it comes to the final score, it only matters if the other person is correct in agreeing or disagreeing. So the people answering the questions should be bluffing? Kind of confusing.

Interesting idea executed poorly. It’s a run through, so the “set” is barebones. I would have asked each couple their three questions in a row. With interesting contestants it could provide some fun, especially in bluffing.
The prize round has issues. The couples not knowing their official score again is an interesting idea, however there could be time issues. If all three contestants cash out or go for prizes more than their score, the host would have to vamp and stretch. I am guessing if more than one couple wins the top prize, the higher actual score goes to the bonus.
In the bonus, there’s also a possibility you only win the 400 point or lower prize, so you couldn’t go for the car as doubling would be less than the 1000 point threshold. What happens then?
Art James was never a flashy host, but here he isn’t hosting to his ability. I am guessing this was taped in New York, since he was hosting the 3Ws there, and solari boards were more of an east coast thing.

The girl in the bonus game was wrong, too much playing the game with Jack Sprung rubbed off on her.

I don't understand why any of the contestants have to announce they're gonna keep score or answer the question of the host says that this gender is gonna keep and score and the other gender is gonna answer the questions. The viewers already know what each person is gonna do before they introduce themself. They don't need to introduce what their job in the game is supposed to be if they host already said it beforehand i.m.o.
