      Emotionally, yes, you feel that her friends should be held accountable for allowing this to happen. However, there are no positive requirements in law for any lay-person to do so. You _might_ be able to charge someone considered a mandatory reporter, like an LEO, but most likely not her friends.
      Without any positive action, the cannot be held responsible in the law. Conspiracy laws, that would be the charging instrument closest, requires a person to take some action in furtherance of the crime.

      Very few states require you to report a crime, and those that do generally require it only if you have observed that crime or it is a crime against a vulnerable person, such as a child or the elderly. There are also states that require passerby or witnesses to render or call for emergency aid, but that would not have applied to the roommate or any friends/family who found out after the fact.

    And... this trustworthy young lady works in a HOSPITAL?
    I used to be an ICU nurse, and once in a while we'd get med techs on the ward that we'd catch in obvious lies, little ones, but there was no way we were letting them have anything to do with caring for our critically ill patients. We'd drum them out so fast! (We were very protective!)
    But if she's good at deception, and is proven to have poor judgement, then she needs to not be involved with patients or children.

We discovered that a tech had just been entering patients' last weight with vitals even if she hadn't done one. When asked about it she lied. It took 2 people to weigh vent patients with our system, yet she always entered the exact same weight as before, while we knew for certain it hadn't been done. It would've just been a teachable moment if she hadn't lied and broken trust.
      That's the only big one I can think of. Others were smaller, but enough to lose trust. Most techs were amazing.

    Roommate Sara probably lied in the beginning saying "I know nothing" but once she heard her dear roommie left someone dead on the side of the road, decided to do the right thing and admit that her roommate said "I think I hit someone". Went on to tell her family, too? Yea... she screwed up astronomically.

    This is a hard case for me to watch because my brother was killed the same way a few weeks about on March the 3rd. by a guy that hit him and went 3 cities over and then reported hitting something on the highway about 18 hours later! He's free now! I don't know how his case is going to go yet but doesn't look good because my brother had no business crossing a highway at 1:30 AM on a Sat. night. They think he wanted to kill himself but even if he did he should have stopped and called 911! Not wait 18 hours later to say something. I believe had been drinking and that's why he didn't stop. This happened in Richardson, TX. Victims name was Omar Guzman Hammett in case people want to look the case up. It was Dallas County.

      I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss. This actually happens quite frequently, which is horrible. My sister’s SIL was killed the same way in February in Maryland. However, the person did stop. So that made it easier. I’m so sorry you had to go through that and probably wonder every single day if he could have been saved. I hope whoever did it pays for what they did. Bless you.

    This reminds me of that drunk lady that hit a man he was stuck in her windshield she drove home parked in garage with guy in her windshield and he died like two days later. I might be a little bit off on that case but close. It’s bad enough to hit them but then to let them die because you don’t want to get into trouble. Why didn’t any of this girls friends or family call the police once they found out?

  • @shannonmcstormy5021
    @shannonmcstormy5021 Місяць тому +1

    Her "5 or so family members" in the court room raised someone who would leave the scene of a serious accident, not call 911 so that medical services could attempt to rescue the victim, then try and cover it up after the fact. The family has also clearly ponied up the money for Bond, the high-end lawyer and likely other financial assistance. In short, the family that raised someone who could do the above, continues to attempt to protect her from the consequences of her actions. I am confident that this a representative example of enabling that has occurred her entire life....to the defendant's profound detriment. They should stop.

    Excellent defence attorney. I found it odd that the prosecutor was stating all the new evidence and allegations as fact when she is simply addressing bond, not proving the allegations in a trial. But then, she is heading to circuit and I know Conley will hear it fairly. The trial will be tough.

    • @MissDirect
      @MissDirect 3 місяці тому +3

      The prosecution is stating things like that because this is a bond hearing... the seriousness of the allegations is one of the factors for bond. The state is presenting what it says happened but doesn't have to prove it beyond reasonable doubt as this is the bond hearing, not trial. If the state had to prove everything twice, you just wouldn't have a bond hearing at all. There will also be some evidence in the filings that we can't see.

    In the next township over, a young man hit a pedestrian out on a dark road. The police found car parts that allowed them to investigate and identify him. When questioned he said he hit a deer. They found cigarette butts at the scene that they tied to the driver, showing that he was there for several minutes. He was not convicted of a crime.

    what the defense was trying to say: "this information has come to light and changed the prosecution's request. however, my client is presumed innocent and a bond judgment was already made."
    what judge simpson heard: "this information has come to light, but _you're_ the one who gave her this stank-ass bond. i'd like to make a record that j. cedric simpson loves drunk drivers. why do you love drunk drivers so much? huh? why do you love negligent vehicular homicide? why don't you _marry_ drunk drivers if you love them so much? just lower her bond to $0.25. thank you, your honor."

    I’m absolutely disgusted by this one! She’s standing there like some innocent bystander with all these people supporting her yet the actual victims family has to deal with the notion their loved one died alone on the ground because this drunk left her there. She is an absolute DISGRACE to the field of nursing and if she worked at the hospital I worked at there is no way in hell id work with her. How can you be trusted with other patients or trusted to back up other nurses in an emergency when you’ve shown you’ll allow someone to die in order to cover up your mess? She is so low down I really hope the board of nursing prevents her from ever registering again after her license gets pulled cause you better believe it’s going to be pulled. My heart breaks for the victims family this is so senseless and disgusting.

    The difference in outcomes of this case are hugely based on the fact that she attempted to conceal her involvement, conceal evidence and even worse, talked about it. What’s to stop her from trying to persuade the witnesses not to testify? Clearly, she didn’t think she’d get caught, which means she had a higher likelihood for fleeing. A DA has a duty to zealously defend their client, however, it’s fairly tactless to challenge and accuse the judge like he did. Guess it doesn’t matter if they have a bail bondsman at the ready, so the young blonde white female gets to live her life freely until the trial commences…

    The problem with drunkenness is that it's fueled by this magical thought of, "well I was drunk, I didn't know what I was doing!"
    You choose to kill someone, that's what makes you a murderer, you choose to sell drugs, that's what makes you a drug dealer, you choose to drink, and that's what makes you responsible for your actions while drunk.
