Atul Kulkarni best acting can be seen in Marathi movie called 'natrang' if you loved amir Khans dangal transformation then natrang is abit like that but story line is different..must watch it. don't know about whether it I translated or no
This was a really old video when he was just getting into indian stuff. So he didn't really know a lot about the cultural nuances of a lot of stuff in and around India at that time.

Deadpool .please don't generalize and brand every Muslim as Pakistani. for your kind information we've had maulana Abdul kalam azad n gaffhar khan playing a huge role for the independence of India!
Deadpool those who wanted a separate Muslim nation have left.we now have 172 million of them, can you generalize majority of them Pakistani's?please.stop spreading hatred.
I partly agree with Jaby on the subject of background score overpowering the actual scenes. But I disagree with him on the subject of songs. ARR's composition in RDB is bloody brilliant. It's a seminal piece of work. Much better than the overrated Slumdog Millionaire!

or atleast watch this movie with an Indian guy who can tell how and why music fits accurately, whats the emotions behind scenes, social structure and bit of Indian freedom movement.
I hope you read this Jaby. You need to have someone from India to give you the context while watching the movie so that you can feel even the music, or need for a particular way of direction in Indian context. I understand initially you used to watch Indian stuff as a complete stranger to it but now you really need some authentic Indian support not only for the review purposes but to enjoy the content. For instance the music is actually very highly loved here in India because it moved us to tears or gave goose bumps while watching the movie and it's one of the best of compositions here.
The point of my review is that it's an outsider's perspective. I am a foreigner with little knowledge of India (compared to your average Indian). I completely grasp the point of the music and understand how it might resonate with Indian viewers. But not every revered song in Bollywood is going to touch me the same way and more importantly, the placement of the music in one or two scenes in RDB is what bothered me, not necessarily the song itself. The reason Cortney enjoys the musical elements more is because she has a musical theatre background and inherently loves musicals. I didn't feel like I missed any context. Things just resonate with me differently.
Shivam Modi i completely agree wid u. Jaby isnt able to much understand & appreciate this movie, music because of the cultural differences & lack of indian history knowledge in my opinion.
jaby koay All songs r perfectly placed. How can you not like the beautiful luka chuppi song , whre a mother is weeping for her lost son OR how can you not like the goose bumping Rubaru roshni song. This heavenly music goes beyound cultures & should resonate wid all
+ASHUTOSH SHARMA Again, just because my opinion of a movie is different from yours doesn't mean I didn't understand or appreciate it. I expressed appreciation for the movie quite a bit in this review, but you focused on my negative comments. Yes, cultural differences exist, but I don't feel this film is bound by cultural differences. PK, 3 Idiots, Dhanak are all films I really enjoyed and all which have musical scenes - point being, musical scenes are obviously not standing in the way of my enjoying a film. It's artistic choices being made that I would have preferred to better (and in my opinion, more effectively) communicate a specific message.
To most of us from India this was an outstanding film, one that was way ahead of its time (plus the incredible incredible music by AR Rahman). Having said that I can see where Jaby is coming from. I guess he (as does everybody else) has his own preferences for storytelling but that does not detract from his appreciation for the film. If a movie was able to make a connection with foreign audience without them first having a full historic and cultural context speaks to how good the movie was. Rang de basanti was made in 2006, what we should remember is that the art of storytelling evolves with time and back then the direction, screenplay and everything else just seemed perfect to us, but now 10 years later (being influenced by other approaches to storytelling and movie making) Jaby thinks a few things could have been done differently (does not make him right or wrong) and i don't find anything wrong with that.
Suyash Awasthi ok it's a good movie but doesn't deserve to be in top 250..... first of all its overly dramatic and overly patriotic ..and secondly it didn't portray human emotions correctly.dont get fooled by IMDb rating half of the 10 on 10 scores are from amir khan fan boys
I started remembering parts of the movie during the review. Now I want to watch the movie again! :D "Kuch kar guzarne ko, khoon chala khoon chala Aankhon ke sheeshe mein utarne ko khoon chalaaaaaa" :D
We Indians love things getting conveyed via music , it's something we look for while it maybe it is annoying in other parts of the world. So understandable.
dude it's an all time classic, believe me the lady sitting beside you understood the movie way better than you and about the music I think this movie was A.R rahman's best work....
Aamir is a legend with his transition and choice of movie. 1. Taare Zameen Par 2. Lagaan 3. Dil chahta hai. Common Jaby. Go for it. Loved your discussion and comments of film-making process.
TechNfun I'm Hindu and I see many stupids on social media calls Muslim a Pakistani I feel very bad. That Time I open up my mouth and shut them up. Well, We are Indians. We are all one and No one can divide US.
How i wish Jaby understood 'Khoon Chala' bit... I dont like music overtaking story telling either... but THAT song is something else.... It awakens something... something i cant put to words... Like if u understand...
maybe because he didn't under the words. the words do make you feel something and well, he's american. He couldn't understand the dynamic of that particular scene.
To be honest, I think its difficult for someone who doesn't understand the language, and thus the lyrics to appreciate enough how phenomenal the songs and the general music of Rang De Basanti was. Its just that few words tend to hit you more in there original Hindi language rather than it's English translation. I would be awed even if the lyrics was written on a piece of paper and I read it for the first time. Its mind-blowing, and really incredibly moving. Also, the fact that the parallel from old time and present being shown repeatedly bugged you; you would have cherished that more if you were from India and could relate with Bhagat Singh and his struggle and sacrifice, India's freedom movement; and how we youngsters deeply and emotionally appreciate that the freedom fighters fought for us, but we aren't worthy of reaping the benefits off of there sacrifices.
The protest song is one of the most beautiful pieces of music written in India in recent times, Cortney, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE you for knowing the significance of it. If the lyrics would've been translated in the subtitles, I guarantee you would have broken down crying. The song is titled "Khoon Chala", which translates roughly to "...and so the Blood proceeds", blood here being an allusion both to the literal blood and a metaphor for the awakening of DJ(Amir) and Co I can translate the song for you if you want, and thanks a lot for reviewing this classic.
Rohan Sheth To each his own. But just to clarify I was disagreeing with the reasons for his criticism. Like the things he said he did not want and compromised the impact of the movie, were some of the best scenes. I know RDB is not perfect but it does not deserve petty criticism. PBDHH also has its flaws.
Rohan Sheth Interesting take on RDB. I think this movie is a bit overrated but I had never analyzed it like that, but your words make a lot of sense. I can see the "glamourisation" in a way of misplaced violence for revolutionary goals.
Everyone in the theatre cried because of the music "Khoon Chala" song when people were getting beaten up. Might be the music was a little more Indian and you cudnt relate to it.
I loved the way Cortny didn't just go with the flow and how she cared to contradict Jaby in many of his opinions. This shows how honestly invested she was in watching the movie.. not just to be with jaby on his channel. And it's great that Jaby is honest in his opinions on the movie, and not faking it to please the viewers.
Two things: India is a country of over 100 million people and most of the movies made here are supposedly the kind of movies that you feel like they were made for children, basically the kind where directors spoon-feed the audience of what is happening and what is he trying to say, many of the international critics categorizes Indian cinema as something that doesn't require a lot of thinking bcoz makers of the movies make everything so obvious for the viewers. however it is required for the directors to do that if they want their movie to be successful in villages and small towns, where people aren't educated enough to understand this "parallel" aspect. This movie is quintessential to India bcoz the india-gate candle march was first introduced in this movie and after this movie, Delhites (people of Delhi) marched with candles in a similar way for when Jessica Lal was murdered and her murderer was evicted (No One Killed Jessica) That actually became an act of speaking up against the govt oppression and since this movie every time something huge has happened in India ppl have marched with candles on India gate.
The song you missed the lyrics of was " "Khoon Chala" khoon means blood, chala means walk... the lyrics mean, NOW THE BLOOD HAS BOILED FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN.
The reason they didn't tell the past story of bhagat singh and mates, is because it's common knowledge for Indians and they are quite familiar with happenned. The comparison is what the director was going for.
Rang De Basanti is a movie which will resonate with Indians. Its not exactly a movie which foreigners understand.. only if you know the political situation in india, The way youngsters are unaware of their own history n stuff. will you truely enjoy and appreciate the film.
Don’t agree with you. There are so many English or other language movies which don’t resonate with us but still we like it. Why? Because it’s good. Simple.
I think Jaby is a bit stubborn when it comes to his own vision about film making that any thing varies from it, he has a real hard time appreciating that. But what i loved about Cortney is she is much more flexible when it comes to understanding a film and she really tries to understand why that music is played at that place and why those moment happened, which jaby, just cant do. Personally, i don't think that's a good trait for a film maker, that they should be willing to accept and understand different styles of film making.
So because I didn't appreciate music over the police raid, the constant parallels in the 3rd act and the strobe effect, I am unwilling to understand different styles of film making? The fact that I watched RDB in itself is an effort to understand a different style. Just because my opinion doesn't exactly line up with yours doesn't mean I am unwilling to accept and appreciate different styles.
That's not exactly what I'm trying to tell you. It feels like you have a hard time enjoying moment if it's not happening exactly like you wished . For ex: although I can see your perspective on the police raid scene with out any music and it is definitely a good choice, it looks like cortney was able to understand and accept that surreal feel and effect the director was trying to convey through it and hence enjoy it much better where as you seems to be more worried about why that scene was shot like that. I said this because in many of your reviews this aspect seems to be a common factor.
Yash Singhal I'm not trying to tell jaby what all he should like or not like. What he likes is completely his wish. I was just trying to tell him that even when you cannot with some aspects of a movie, like the police raid scene, as a student of film, it's always good to understand and appreciate the merit of that scene which was clearly accepted and liked by many, hence comes to the conclusion that the director clearly did something right.
Wish u had seen this with achara too. Anyway, now i hav to watch it again. The moment someone talks about this movie, i just have to watch it! Dayumn!!! 🙆👌👌
09:20 Hey Jaby, I can understand why you would get frustrated with all the parallels, but that particular one, the one with Aamir Khan dying is one of the most important part of the film. Every parallel they showed signifies something historic. The one where aamir khan dies, it draws parallel to how Chandrashekhar Azad had only one bullet left and he had vowed not to die at hands of britishers, so he killed himself. If this scene wasn't there, all the previous comparisons would have been pointless. There are similar events like the kakori train loot, that had to be shown. I see your point about showing less of the parallel history but that's what the makers were going for. These parallels intensified towards the end and that was the whole point of the film. To show how the youth of india now is similar to the youth back then even though the problems faced are different.
i have some request if you can do it for me :) will be great, please 1.The Great Train Robbery Scene-(DHOOM 2) 2.The Diamond Robbery Scene-(DHOOM 2) 3.The Ring - Krrish (2006) all starring Hrithik Roshan
FYI, The Powerful song during the protest scene is "Khoon Chala" which means "Blood Flows Down" . It is an incredibly well-written song that captures the melancholic yet rebellious mood of the situation, beautifully portrayed through the actors' expressions. :) I'm sad you couldn't get the lyrics. Also, I think the song placing in this film is one of the best ever, all wittingly written and beautifully composed and most importantly they engage you with the characters' state of mind.
dude... that parellel scene of amir khan... that was really touching coz we grew up learning about chandrashekhar azad... and it was really mesmerising to just see that both the characters were thinking of the same thing.... their death!
My first ever comment on youtube platform (been on youtube since ages)... And it had to be this video! Had to be! Such a powerful discussion. Jaby is one of the amazing youtubers that I follow. Glad to come across you Jaby, and happy to see you grow over the years and on your way to more success, which you definitely deserve.
5:40 The name of the song is 'Khoon Chala' (=the blood now flows), and the lyrics to the song are: To do something (big)..the blood has started to (boil/rage) It descends into the mirror of eyes.. Falling from the body, embracing the earth winding through the streets. surging and sweeping To fill (the world) with new colors, the blood now moves... Taking with it a gaping wound, and an ever-intensifying agony.. Taking with it the raised fingers of questions, and fists of answers, the blood now flows.
in the movie "legend of bhagat singh" when they are about to get hanged and they are been taken and the song starts "mera rang de basanti chola" i still remember that was my first time ever cried watching movie
The music was quite contextual and the Hindi lyrics make more sense than a translation (you cant really translate poetry and lyrics words by word can you?). Also given that the movie came out 10years ago... the music was quite relevant for that time.
Rang De Basanti draws parallels in a sense that those college kids who were not serious about their own lives & always ridiculed their own country & questioned the compromises our freedom fighters made, became something else when they saw that their own died because of corruption & they all got ready to die for the cause just like the our freedom fighters. Party scenes in first half are very important because that's when we get into the insight of their mindset prior to the tragedy. Another strong message is that when you revolt against something wrong which is being done by the authority itself then no matter who you are you'll be called as terrorists. that''s why they kept showing parallel stories even when the characters were dying. they were ready to surrender but the government thought they were terrorists.
U will not get the essence of this movie until u know the background history, in short u should've watch The Legend of Bhagat Singh first. Then only u'll understand the depth and necessity of the parallels shown in this movie. It tried to address the issues that this country faced earlier and is still facing now let it be corruption or religious animosity bw Hindu and Muslim and also gave the remedy of it by bridging a gap through conveying messages that Bhagat Singh and other revolutionaries gave and what they fought for and died for.
I enjoyed Courtney's reaction. She understood the movie quite well. Jaby, I think while you may have understood that there is historical context, I would recommend you reading about why those particular people were important/how important that event was to the independence movement. It was in stark contrast with Gandhi's methods and yet it also gained great support from the masses. The reason they didn't show as much history is that most Indians already know the history, the movie was establishing the base context but focusing more on the parallel
Indian movies in general are not as subtle. They are usually made for the masses and considering India's diversity, this is pretty much a norm. So can understand Jaby's frustration when they hammered the point about Aamir Khan and his alter ego freedom fighter in the end.
thank you jabby for your honest opinion. i appreciate it very much. what i love about you is that you are not diplomatic about sharing your honest opinion for the fear of loosing subscribers. this is what makes your channel unique. good work. love you man
the music at the time of protest is important jaby . that is one of the important and beautiful song of the movie. its just because you don't understand the lyrics of the song .the Indian audience cry because of that song because the lyrics are so beautiful.
Cortney !! You did a brilliant analysis in ways that I never thought of when watching the movie !! Thanks a million ! Would love to see more of your reviews :) Jaby ! Keep those movie reviews coming ! Next one from Amir Khan's stable :- Taare Zameen Par ...
Jaby are you mad. Music in this movie was great ,melodious and it was composed by none than AR Rehman 2 time academy award winner. I guess u only prefer action movies.
zam Cmon it's his opinion right. But you should appreciate the fact that he was able to appreciate and connect with a film based our country's history and identity. It's a really good thing if you think about it.
Anytime, man. Also, do watch "A Wednesday". It's a gripping thriller with no musical numbers or songs :P Always looking forward to your reaction videos.
Courtney : I really enjoyed hearing your opinion. I feel it spoke to you. The transformation was so powerful. Also which scene did you want the subtitles for.?
Hey Jaby! I think you couldn't justify the songs' review of the movie being non-impressive. The songs like Luka chuppi Tu bin bataye are soaring........ Khoon chala Rang de basanti (title song) are energetic fireballs....... and the poem/song Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna by Bismil is a blood-boiler freedom war cry
The funeral song "Luka chupi" is essentially a dialogue between a mother and a son. It's really a beautiful song. I hope you can find its translation online somewhere. It will definitely change the way you watch that scene. The first lines of a mother from the song are: Stop playing hide and seek with me. Come before me. I have searched for you everywhere and now, your mother tired. It's getting dark, and I worry about you. My sight is getting weaker, please come.
Pretty sure we both connected with the heart of the film. The perceived disconnect is because I had a few negative comments about the style of the film.
@ 13:50 Jaby, Aamr Khan also talked about that scene recently in a interview with Ranveer Singh. He said he could do it better but he wasn't in his zone that day.
All songs r perfectly placed. How can you not like the beautiful luka chuppi song , whre a mother is weeping for her lost son OR how can you not like the goose bumping Rubaru roshni song. This heavenly music goes beyound cultures & should resonate wid all
jaby the reason you got frustrated of the parallel story is because you are into movie making and understand the direction... but amir makes movies for the best and the unprivileged as well.. most of the people who watch movies in india may be are not even aware of there own history... the slums the villages... its important to link the parallel story with the present for people who do not understand the movie making or the story or have the same level of intellect as you guys do..
I think audiences would have gotten the point still. I don't mind parallels being drawn or even obvious, but I didn't like how much it was done in the tail end of the second act (when they decide to kill the corrupt politician and when Aamir Khan sees the character he played dying in front of the tree). At a certain point, I think the audience understands what's going on without being reminded.
+jaby koay ohh boy jaby i love your channel i have been a follower since you had like 50k followers.. and i am blessed that you responded to my commnet ... but you still dont have an idea of the range of audience in india... there are theaters over here where people still throw coins on the screen appreciating a scene they like to.. we still have people who do not even understand what the language is and still go to watch the movie just becauae it has there favorite actors in them... i knw youll be visiting india soon .. i hope you too see how diverse our nation is....
Jaby if you watch the scene with two amir khans once again you will notice them smiling at each other. It is not so much as to draw parallels but somehow make these two characters come together in one frame, make them communicate(sort of). Its a kind of an acknowledgement from one revolutionary to the other.
the parallels were important because it connected to us(indian audience) film makers intended to make us feel about the things our freedom fighters went through. most of those parallels brought tears in our eyes because they looked so intense and powerful which was needed to create impact on mind of audience.
Jaby, the end scene that you're talking about was important because it showed exactly how the revolutionary that Aamir Khan was portraying (Chandrashekhar Azad) took his own life.
so @jaby koay I will address your question about the meaning of the song played during the funeral. It is an emotional mother-son relationship song. what is conveyed is that as a kid when it would get late in the evening the mother would worry as to why her child isn't home yet, relating it to the present situation where he is dead and the mother says it's late now when are you coming back. i personally cried a lot during this song
The thing with Jaby is that he is more of a film maker/editor when he watches a film than just a plain simple movie viewer. Sucks out the entertainment a bit. Exactly why Courteney enjoyed it much more
the reason why the music could not resonate you very deeply is because the songs in this movie is all about their lyrics... try and understand them... you will love it.
The music during the protest actually sings about the revolution building into them. And the words in song actually depicts the depth of their situation.
My mom and I are doing movie nights and we just saw this movie, and I had this urge to check your reaction on the movie. Loving the platform, the lyrics for all the songs have a deeper meaning and they go well with the movie. I really loved it.
Watch Ghajini (at least Trailer) you will see another Aspect to Aamir Khan movie. Aamir Khan is totally different in this movie. Brilliant Acting by Aamir Khan.
The English Translation of the Funeral Song: Enough of hide and seek, come before me. I searched for you everywhere. Your mother is now tired. Its evening and I'm worried about you Hazy is what my sight is, come to me What do I tell you about the place where I am, mother? There is freedom and independence like the vast sky here. Like your stories, innocent and beautiful- -is a dreamland here. My kite (I am) is flying without any worries mother. Nobody to steal or cut my kite's string. My eyes are waiting for you My heart is going through various emotions. Slowly darkness in creeping in the courtyard, where is my lamp(son) The sun is setting and gesturing to the moon, where are you? Where are you my moon (son)? How do I show you what is here? I've drunk water from the fountain mother I've touched several clusters of my dreams The sunlight along with the shade is here The atmosphere is so different and new All that I want is here mother.. but still.. Loneliness is what I feel here without you..
the parallels are important jaby. it connects to the indian audience. for us our freedom fighters are close to our hearts thanks to our history textbooks. it draws on our emotions.
Sushma Myneni exactly.. So I didn't get mad at him when he said he didn't liked it..
Sushma Myneni our history text books are full of colonial, communists socialists propaganda they are very far away from real true history of last 10000 year. There no mention of naval mutiny of 1946 that was real reason of independence after Ina.
Sushma Myneni I agree 👍.
I agree
and Chandrashekhar azad's suicide was also a monumental point in our freedom fight so it was necessary to place.
My respect for Jaby increased the moment @12:44 he says his other favourite actor in the film 'Atul Kulkarni'.
Jaby can spot talent.
Prabhodya Singh exactly.. That was totally unexpected.. I thought he was going to say about sharman.. But I realy glad that he didnt
Prabhodya Singh Absolutely, I was thinking I wish he would know about Atul before watching but, Atul needed no intro and hats off to Jaby- Spot on!!
Atul Kulkarni best acting can be seen in Marathi movie called 'natrang' if you loved amir Khans dangal transformation then natrang is abit like that but story line is different..must watch it. don't know about whether it I translated or no
Prabhodya Singh Anton can spot good acting. ..whats so special ?
Prabhodya Singh Watch Khaaki with three legends in it. Amitabh Bacchan, Ajay Devgan and Atul Kulkarni, fucking great performances.
Woah woah the other guy was not Pakistani - he was an Indian Muslim
I am a big fan of Jaby... but how the f they both can miss it.
This was a really old video when he was just getting into indian stuff. So he didn't really know a lot about the cultural nuances of a lot of stuff in and around India at that time.

Pakistan didn't exist in the timeline the movie referred its actors too.
This movie is perfect example on how language and culture barrier can alien 80% of meaning for an American audience.
Spot on, man!
True man👍
4:20 He is a Indian Muslim... Not A pakistani.... BIG DIFFERENCE Man...!!!!!!!
Sumit Mahajan not really.
Deadpool there is a big difference
Thats right man, I was expecting that someone would notice that remark and I am glad that one good Indian did
Deadpool .please don't generalize and brand every Muslim as Pakistani. for your kind information we've had maulana Abdul kalam azad n gaffhar khan playing a huge role for the independence of India!

I partly agree with Jaby on the subject of background score overpowering the actual scenes. But I disagree with him on the subject of songs. ARR's composition in RDB is bloody brilliant. It's a seminal piece of work. Much better than the overrated Slumdog Millionaire!
Satya Iyer yesss that's damn true
slumdog was perhaps one of rahmans weakest work.... rang de basanti the music n especially the bgm are seminal n a testimony to the genius of rahman!!
Absolutely!
Hi Jaby, if this comment gets 400 Likes then plz review Taare Zameen Par. plz watch it with achara. thanks
plz watch it with achara
Anjali Patel Please don't make Achara cry.. Love it when she smiles..
he'll watch it anyways..sooner or later!
agree
Indian Sniper what would i do with youtube likes? i just want jaby to watch the inspirational and amazing movie.
Chandrasekhar azad's death was a huge moment in our history and that scene is supposed to be iconic!
that's why they showed it with Aamir Khan's alter ego..
4.22 other guy was not a pakistani he was a muslim ...
We knew he was Muslim, but he was called Pakistani in the film by Laxman Pandey.
jaby koay your guest clearly as opposed to other guy was pakistani. khair its not a point to argue about
You must watch Taare Zameen Par! And Bhajrangi Bhaijaan.
jaby koay that was a slight or insult thrown at him for being muslim
That was meant to be a racial slur
Jaby do you realise that all "3 idiots" were in this movie
this movie has one of the most amazing music in Bollywood...
it was one of the best work of A. R. Rahman
+Prarthana Sarmah hell ya
For sure .
You guys need to be born in India to understand this particular movie.
or atleast watch this movie with an Indian guy who can tell how and why music fits accurately, whats the emotions behind scenes, social structure and bit of Indian freedom movement.
vicke chauhan So True. And to understand and like the song "Lukka Chhuppi" one really need to understand the lyrics they are so so meaningful.

Shivam Modi I cud be that indian guy ...only if Jaby approves...immense general and bollywood knowledge :)
Cortney Wright you are quite right through out.... :)
And Jaby nothing taking away from you . You are awesome and that is why i keep on watching your videos.
Jaby, at 9:25. The parallels were meant to show what actually happened in the history. That was the way Chandra Shekhar Azad died.
Atul Kulkarni is one of the finest actors in Bollywood and Marathi movies. His quality of acting is super class!
Gaurav P Completely agree with you. It's a shame mainstream Hindi don't get to see him more often.
Cortney Wright has been the most sensible guest of Jaby.
Could not have put it better myself :) Go Jaby!
Thank you very much. I appreciate your comment.
Completely agree!
Well put out brother :)
You didn't like Luka Chippi you heartless monster
priyavart kumar hahahaha.. monster :p
priyavart kumar does he know hindi...... 😁😁😁 bro even if we translate, it loses that aura.....
i think only us indians would like that song...
priyavart kumar 😄😄
really..how just how can someone not love that song.
Fun fact - Rang de Basanti is one of the few films featured in top 250 of IMDb. it is at 158.
bruh now 12 indian movies are in top 250 check out imdb
RAJESH RANA I know.
"Kuch kar guzarne ko, khoon chala khoon chala
Aankhon ke sheeshe mein utarne ko khoon chalaaaaaa" :D
badan se tapak kar... zameen se lipat kar...
galiyonse rastonse ubhar kar, umad kar..
naye rang bharne ko, khoon chala!
khuli si chhot lekar, badi si tees sang lekar khoon chala
Ahista, Ahista,
Sawaalo ki ungli, Jawaabo ki mutthi,
Sang lekar, khoon chala.... \m/
Aankhon Ke Sheeshe Mein Utarne Ko Khoon Chala ..
We Indians love things getting conveyed via music , it's something we look for while it maybe it is annoying in other parts of the world. So understandable.
Jaby the music is given by the LEGEND A.R.RAHMAN an Oscar winner for slumdog millionaire.....
Lyrics nahi samaja hoga
ken sha haha
That music is the soul of this movie.
the music of the film is epic..I don''t know what he's saying.
its his opinion..
You have to watch "Sarfarosh" to see more of Aamir Khan its the best of his work.
That is truly a very good suggestion.Jaby should go for Sarfarosh first. Then Taare Zameen Par and then whatsoever movie he feels like.
......and Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar too.
Nadeem Ahmed second you buddy
Nadeem Ahmed
I agree wid u but I don't think jaby might be able to relate with that movie cuz his mindset is different frm us
dude it's an all time classic, believe me the lady sitting beside you understood the movie way better than you and about the music I think this movie was A.R rahman's best work....
I loved hearing Cortney's perspective, it was most relatable. Great review overall :)
time for 5th and the best Aamir Khan movie review..Tare Zameen par
Aamir is a legend with his transition and choice of movie.
1. Taare Zameen Par
2. Lagaan
3. Dil chahta hai.
Common Jaby. Go for it. Loved your discussion and comments of film-making process.
He should really watch Mangal Pandey and Lagaan first. Then TZP and DCH
Daniel Peace I personally loved it
Daniel Peace bro it was good...... I loved it.
Don't call Indian Muslim.. Pakistani.. It's an Insult.
Aditya Kishor The song always always gives me goosebumps
maybe because he didn't under the words. the words do make you feel something and well, he's american.
You should really make a list of your top 5 or 10 favorite Indian movies so far
PK, Gangs of Wasseypur Part 1, Three Idiots, Udta Punjab, Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2, Dhanak, Rang De Basanti, Parched, Pink.
jaby koay please watch chennai express with english subtitles. its a very fun movie. i m sure u will love it . please please do watch it.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan starring Salman Khan not amongst your favs?
My personal top 10 is Dangal,PK,Rang De Basanti, Gangs of Wasseypur,Satya, Lagaan,Taare Zameen Par, 3 Idiots,Ghajini and Wazir.
jaby koay not dangal? Jaby?
The protest song is one of the most beautiful pieces of music written in India in recent times, Cortney, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE you for knowing the significance of it.
If the lyrics would've been translated in the subtitles, I guarantee you would have broken down crying. The song is titled "Khoon Chala", which translates roughly to "...and so the Blood proceeds", blood here being an allusion both to the literal blood and a metaphor for the awakening of DJ(Amir) and Co
I can translate the song for you if you want, and thanks a lot for reviewing this classic.
jaby Movie of Atul Kulkarni (panny) "Natrang" you have to see it.....Covers range of his acting also he changed his physic
nilesh rane Damn I suggested this movie trailer many times. Even made a trailer since there was no good trailer available. But he wants 'majority'.
i was looking for this comment... Natrang was a good movie... jaby koay u shud definately check out the trailer..
Jaby, I agree with most of your reviews and that u r entitled to your opinion, but this movie is just beyond criticism.
Everything can be criticized and nothing is perfect. One's cup of tea might not be the same as another. Even Buddha was not perfect. So chill.
Rohan Sheth
Interesting take on RDB.
Jaby, the music is one of the greatest ever in Bollywood, and so is the song
The song you missed the lyrics of was " "Khoon Chala" khoon means blood, chala means walk... the lyrics mean, NOW THE BLOOD HAS BOILED FOR SOMETHING TO HAPPEN.
siddiqua fatimah
well mam Indian film industry has all the aspects of film making
sometimes it's mass sometimes it's class
Being Hindu the mass and class thing was awesome way Tu explain bro.....
Bravo
The reason they didn't tell the past story of bhagat singh and mates, is because it's common knowledge for Indians and they are quite familiar with happenned. The comparison is what the director was going for.
Rang De Basanti is a movie which will resonate with Indians. Its not exactly a movie which foreigners understand.. only if you know the political situation in india, The way youngsters are unaware of their own history n stuff. will you truely enjoy and appreciate the film.
Don’t agree with you. There are so many English or other language movies which don’t resonate with us but still we like it. Why? Because it’s good. Simple.
I will personally ask you to see
- Mouna Raagam (Tamil)
- Nayagan(Tamil)
- Harishchandrachi Factory (Marathi)
- Lagaan (Hindi)
any one and review it.
Avinash Simon He understands its a different style but he doesn't like it!should he like it because majority of viewers did?
Qasim So dude what are you exactly trying to convey? could you be more specific?
Wish u had seen this with achara too. Anyway, now i hav to watch it again. The moment someone talks about this movie, i just have to watch it! Dayumn!!! 🙆👌👌
Ankita Jain even i m going to watch it
09:20 Hey Jaby, I can understand why you would get frustrated with all the parallels, but that particular one, the one with Aamir Khan dying is one of the most important part of the film.
The actor Atul Kulkarni is a Marathi super star
i have some request if you can do it for me :) will be great, please
1.The Great Train Robbery Scene-(DHOOM 2)
2.The Diamond Robbery Scene-(DHOOM 2)
3.The Ring - Krrish (2006)
all starring Hrithik Roshan
check out 'Natrang' trailer of Atul Kulkarni... He's truly a great actor
FYI, The Powerful song during the protest scene is "Khoon Chala" which means "Blood Flows Down" . It is an incredibly well-written song that captures the melancholic yet rebellious mood of the situation, beautifully portrayed through the actors' expressions. :)
I'm sad you couldn't get the lyrics. Also, I think the song placing in this film is one of the best ever, all wittingly written and beautifully composed and most importantly they engage you with the characters' state of mind.
Get Courtney to watch all the movies.
She is good in reviewing👍
I think jaby found this movie long and hanging because he's not indian. Its as simple as that. !!!
Its a cult movie here. Thanks for the review
Courtney is so great in this review. She really has such an open mind and connects things so beautifully without even knowing it.
dude... that parellel scene of amir khan... that was really touching coz we grew up learning about chandrashekhar azad... and it was really mesmerising to just see that both the characters were thinking of the same thing.... their death!
JABY IM NOT KIDDING WITH THE CAPS YOU MUST WATCH DIL CHAHTA HAI !!
It's from early 2000s I think you'll like it...It's the first movie disc I ever owned
nice review Jaby...!! now m waiting for your "Taare Zameen par" review with Achara.. 😊
Thank you.
atul kulkarni is one of the best actors we have here!
5:40 The name of the song is 'Khoon Chala' (=the blood now flows), and the lyrics to the song are:
To do something (big)..the blood has started to (boil/rage)
It descends into the mirror of eyes..
Falling from the body, embracing the earth
winding through the streets. surging and sweeping
To fill (the world) with new colors, the blood now moves...
Taking with it a gaping wound, and an ever-intensifying agony..
Taking with it the raised fingers of questions, and fists of answers, the blood now flows.
Thanks.
:)
😒 jaby
She is so good.. she understands!
in the movie "legend of bhagat singh" when they are about to get hanged and they are been taken and the song starts "mera rang de basanti chola"
i still remember that was my first time ever cried watching movie
The music was quite contextual and the Hindi lyrics make more sense than a translation (you cant really translate poetry and lyrics words by word can you?). Also given that the movie came out 10years ago... the music was quite relevant for that time.
you buddy did such a beautiful and honest review. i could not stop myself, watching it all. thank you. Respect. and you know your onions, jaby.
Cortney is awesome.she got dis very well.jaby looks lost dis time
Rang De Basanti draws parallels in a sense that those college kids who were not serious about their own lives & always ridiculed their own country & questioned the compromises our freedom fighters made, became something else when they saw that their own died because of corruption & they all got ready to die for the cause just like the our freedom fighters.
This movie has the best ever Opening Credits background score in Bollywood.
I understood all that. I just wanted to see more of it initially. I appreciated the concept of the film more as it went into he second half.
Indian movies in general are not as subtle. They are usually made for the masses and considering India's diversity, this is pretty much a norm. So can understand Jaby's frustration when they hammered the point about Aamir Khan and his alter ego freedom fighter in the end.
Watch Atul Kulkarni's Marathi movie 'Natrang'. He was great in it.
thank you jabby for your honest opinion. i appreciate it very much. what i love about you is that you are not diplomatic about sharing your honest opinion for the fear of loosing subscribers. this is what makes your channel unique. good work. love you man
Just to inform you....you talked about " golden globe nominated " movie!!!
Cortney is very knowledgeable.. She has a really good grip on history. And she knows what she is talking about. You should bring her in more
the music at the time of protest is important jaby . that is one of the important and beautiful song of the movie.
its just because you don't understand the lyrics of the song .the Indian audience cry because of that song because the lyrics are so beautiful.
Cortney !! You did a brilliant analysis in ways that I never thought of when watching the movie !! Thanks a million ! Would love to see more of your reviews :)
Jaby !
+Atharva Mahajan thank you.
The songs like
Luka chuppi
Tu bin bataye
are soaring........
Khoon chala
Rang de basanti (title song)
are energetic fireballs.......
and the poem/song Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna by Bismil is a blood-boiler freedom war cry
Though I agree the songs Roobaroo, khalbali & Paathshala are not that good
@@SKNayak-gl4xt did you just say khalbali is not good😮
The funeral song "Luka chupi" is essentially a dialogue between a mother and a son.
My sight is getting weaker, please come.
she was spot on in her review 100% spot on
in my view jaby didnt connected with the movie
music was like she said powerful
Pretty sure we both connected with the heart of the film. The perceived disconnect is because I had a few negative comments about the style of the film.
@ 13:50 Jaby, Aamr Khan also talked about that scene recently in a interview with Ranveer Singh. He said he could do it better but he wasn't in his zone that day.
Without the music , the protest scene would not be that good . The song 'Khoon Chala' made that scene impactful.
All songs r perfectly placed. How can you not like the beautiful luka chuppi song , whre a mother is weeping for her lost son OR how can you not like the goose bumping Rubaru roshni song. This heavenly music goes beyound cultures & should
resonate wid all
jaby the reason you got frustrated of the parallel story is because you are into movie making and understand the direction... but amir makes movies for the best and the unprivileged as well.. most of the people who watch movies in india may be are not even aware of there own history... the slums the villages... its important to link the parallel story with the present for people who do not understand the movie making or the story or have the same level of intellect as you guys do..
It's BAFTA nominated music jaby!!
Rang De Basanti's biggest plus point was its MUSIC..
AR Rahman had won best music director award for this film..
Thanks for the honest reaction
Welcome.
the parallels were important because it connected to us(indian audience) film makers intended to make us feel about the things our freedom fighters went through. most of those parallels brought tears in our eyes because they looked so intense and powerful which was needed to create impact on mind of audience.
Please watch SRK's film Swades and review it. Thank you
Jaby, the end scene that you're talking about was important because it showed exactly how the revolutionary that Aamir Khan was portraying (Chandrashekhar Azad) took his own life.
atul kulkarni is a marathi actor. watch "natarang" for his acting :) amazing story, acting and songs
so @jaby koay I will address your question about the meaning of the song played during the funeral.
Exactly why Courteney enjoyed it much more
Um, Cortney is a filmmaker as well. Just different aspects. And we enjoyed it the same.
I'm really glad you brought Cortney on for this. Loved hearing her take on the movie!
the reason why the music could not resonate you very deeply is because the songs in this movie is all about their lyrics... try and understand them... you will love it.
The music during the protest actually sings about the revolution building into them. And the words in song actually depicts the depth of their situation.
is india trip happening or u forgot
My mom and I are doing movie nights and we just saw this movie, and I had this urge to check your reaction on the movie. Loving the platform, the lyrics for all the songs have a deeper meaning and they go well with the movie. I really loved it.
Watch Ghajini (at least Trailer) you will see another Aspect to Aamir Khan movie. Aamir Khan is totally different in this movie. Brilliant Acting by Aamir Khan.
The English Translation of the Funeral Song:
Enough of hide and seek, come before me.
I searched for you everywhere.
Your mother is now tired.
Its evening and I'm worried about you
Hazy is what my sight is, come to me
What do I tell you about the place where I am, mother?
There is freedom and independence like the vast sky here.
Like your stories, innocent and beautiful-
-is a dreamland here.
My kite (I am) is flying without any worries mother.
Nobody to steal or cut my kite's string.
My eyes are waiting for you
My heart is going through various emotions.
Slowly darkness in creeping in the courtyard, where is my lamp(son)
The sun is setting and gesturing to the moon, where are you?
Where are you my moon (son)?
How do I show you what is here?
I've drunk water from the fountain mother
I've touched several clusters of my dreams
The sunlight along with the shade is here
The atmosphere is so different and new
All that I want is here mother.. but still..
Loneliness is what I feel here without you..
