      @@ThorinOakenshieldGSD2023 Because it's so ridiculously American. "Speak softly and carry a big stick" went out the window after WW2 and we've been flaunting our stick like it's made of gold ever since.

      @@Appalachiosaurus22 Not really, we have used our big stick to provide massive humanitarian aid, evacuate disaster areas (along with MEU) and provide bribe free access to the worlds oceans to patrol and protect our sea lines of communications. The U.S. transports the majority of its' goods by sea, and is a global enterprise. Roughly ninety percent of the world's goods are transported by sea with over seventy per- cent as containerized cargo.visionproject.org/images/img_magazine/pdfs/international_shipping.pdf we assure the free flow of goods. Military is one of the three levers of governmental influence along with diplomacy and financial. Military and Financial back up diplomacy. Since in a future conflict their wont' be time to build up as was done in WW2, you have to come to the problem with everything your likely to need. America does that.

      @@ThorinOakenshieldGSD2023 True, and we let everyone know it. We carry a big stick and tell everyone how big it is while flaunting it constantly. America is extremely powerful, and nowhere near subtle about it.

      @@Appalachiosaurus22 Having spent 30 years working with Pentagon, and State Dept I tend to see it as more nuanced that that but if others perceive it as such I don't think that is bad. We are one only three nations that could end mans existence on earth tonight, or drop a load of Twinkies and Coca Cola in any country on earth tonight. When you can do that you don't have to flaunt it, but yes everyone knows.
      No harm done.

    The red outline on the national insignia was only used for a brief time in 1943, and introduced the bars on the stars. They dropped the red outline for the same reason the red circle was dropped.

    Heh, you could hear the History Channel's Battle 360 on the Enterprise in its own exhibit. Possibly the Santa Cruz episode with it talking about the USS Northampton.
    As for putting models in a pool, have you seen people battle it out with RC battleships rocking little air cannons?

      A super Connie crew used to fly in coca cola from Guam to Chu Lai in 1967 to the Navy Armory run by two great guys, now where they got cokes was a secret, I didn’t find out till the day I left Vietnam, used to love to go in there and drink a coke or two in the air conditioning
      with good company, and I mentioned one time to the guys that my M16, like all M16s fired too fast on aut,I ,Mike didn’t say a word, he just grabbed my rifle, took out my buffer and crushed it with some pliers, he then took out a brand new extremely heavy buffer and replaced it, the rifle went from sounding like a zipper being unzipped very fast to chugging, now you could control it, he also took out jewelers files and opened up the chamber and other internal tolerances , rifle worked like a dream, these were the same guys who worked on the Seals weapons, when I turned my weapon in to the small Marine armorer, he was so impressed that he said he was going to keep it for himself, thanks again Mike, I’ll always have fond memories of your kindness and the superconnies that brought the cokes , you have to understand how good an American coke was compared to a Vietnamese one, , like tainted water to Champagne, good memories

    Here's summit I found interesting but not in any history books....during heavy air attacks in the Pacific, carrier crew were not only dodging
    shrapnel but AA rounds from their escorts as gunners regularly got the 'red mist' and kept on firing at aircraft even as the crashed into the water.
    Apparently the gunners forgot that just behind the zero they were firing at was a aircraft carrier and that large caliber bullets travel
    quite a distance.

    • @jasonirwin4631
      @jasonirwin4631 5 років тому

      Not to bad. Pensacola get's hit pretty often so any where not on the beach does pretty well. There is some minor flooding but nothing like Katrina or Harvey. Wind does the most damage by ripping off parts of roofing and knocking down trees. Luckily the museum has a soild category 5 plus roof and is built not far from the bases main runway so there are not trees to worry about the out side planes are all tied down and most where original designed to handle ship board conditions including rough seas.
