"Look at the point in between the ears. That must be the highest." As he canters around with the horses neck curled and the poll obviously not the highest point.
CoolLikeGrass This horse is obviously short necked, and when you look at him he never ticks behind the vertical at any moment, so the poll being higher on a short necked horse would cause him to come up above the vertical!
Madeleine Smith I don't care what type of conformation the horse has. If they say "poll must be the highest point" then they should have the horses poll be the highest point. It is absolutely stupid that they bring out a horse and talk about the poll being the highest point and then not follow through with the lesson. What exactly was the point of this demonstration?
CoolLikeGrass to discount conformation is to deny variables between horses, their bone structure, like the natural relaxed angle of the atlanto-occipital joint is different for different breeds or types. This horse has some carpal deviation that leads me to believe it's a Spanish type horse, lol. So this posture is naturally there. What is rare for this type of horse is to keep them in front of the bridle, so easy for amateurs to over bridle and have them truly behind the leg. That's how conformation affects ability and tendencies, it's biomechanics.
Susie Lytal I know that conformation is important, but I am saying that Conformation Is Not Important When It Comes To This Demonstration. Once again, it is a demonstration to keep the horses poll the HIGHEST point. The conformation of the horse should not matter in this demonstration in any way as all horses of all breeds and conformation can have the poll at the highest point. And if it for some reason did matter(which it doesn't in this case), they shouldn't of used a horse with a conformation incapable of having the poll at the highest point in a demonstration literally about keeping the poll at the highest point.
The poll certainly isn't the highest point in that one. When the rider is hauling at the curb bit like that and hanging in the horses face, the poll can't be the highest point. And as a result the horse can hardly walk properly, because the walk is the gait that will suffer and show what you are doing if you hand-ride a horse like this.
I see that so seldom, I thought everyone had changed their mind about that. Even very Advanced Riders tend to have a break in the neck with an artificial poll flexion. As a body worker for over 20 years I can tell you that false break at the poll leads to many many problems.
Does Mr Helgstrand know what part of the horse the poll is? It does not appear so

He says the right things but praises the rider for the wrong things.. very strange..

ist ja eine Lachnummer, was dieser Mann da erzählt! Das Problem mit Selbst- und Fremdbild scheint hier extrem ausgeprägt....
"The poll should be the highest point", with emphasis on the word "should", because it certainly isn't here! This horse is held far too tight.

How can enthiusast of rollkur say that XD hypocrit
Modern day slavery, the horse is the victim. This is a disgusting way of riding, It is time this ends.
The typical Rollkur trained wreck
