But if you put $1.250 into a slot machine and then won $ 1,200 you have lost $50.00 on the night but do you still have to pay the tax on the winnings,( even though you lost fifty dollars ) ?
Yep you still get a tax form. you can deduct at the end of the year if you itemize though. But if not you are on the hook for it even if you are down overall. And $1200 is really low for a "jackpot" by todays standards!
