    New commission! Making the Leviathan Axe from God of War! This commission calls for a mild steel blade and wooden version of the basic axe, without the carving and engravings. Those will be added later, either by the person who asked me to make it or another commissioned artist.
    It's not a fully functional replica, but intended to feel and be a lot more real than something made out of resin or plastic. However, there may just be a little extra work I decide to put into it. But that's for another day.
    In this videroo, I'm forging out the blades and fabricating the eye and socket, putting in as much of the large, important features as I can.
    Next time I'll be cleaning it up, hafting it, and adding as much embellishment as I can manage :D
    Thanks for watching and please like, subscribe, share, and consider supporting my patreon if you would like to see more work like this!

    For the plans he linked to for printing a template, very helpful! Also give his video a watch if you haven't already, it's super cool: • Odin Makes - Leviathan...
    For a fully forged and awesome version of the axe check out the Man at Arms episode, I drew inspiration from there as well: • Kratos' Axe - God of W...

    I made a second Leviathan axe that's even better! Here's a short video showing it off: ua-cam.com/video/WnTH7W4pSp8/v-deo.html

    It took me 2 years to find this legend

    Yikes, I actually jumped a little in my seat when that belt came off! The axe looks really cool so far - can't wait to see part 2.

      I had to go and sit down for a little while after that. xD

    3:40 the back piece is for throwing. Throwing axe will sometimes hit the target with the back piece instead of the front blade

    I watch quite few blacksmiths and other craftsmen on youtube. I can say I like the way you are going. Keep it up and I bet you will grow.

      I dunno man, I’ve been about 5’6” for 15 years, but here’s hoping. :D
      Thanks! I’m glad you’re enjoying it. Let me put you on the spot: with that context, what kind of thing would you like to see more of? Or what thing would you like to see that you haven’t?

      I agree with Gabe.

    As a blacksmith i love the fact that you forged the most part of the axe. Saw many videos where they welded the whole thing or poured it with aluminum. Thats bullshit in my opinion. Only a forged axe is a good axe. Well done mate! 👍🏼

      I took one look at the metal I had and decided the was no way I was going to grind THAT much metal. Forging to shape saves time and abrasives and has the added benefit of being way more fun ;)

    Terrific video man, really enjoyed it 👍. Narration and editing is on point.

    Finally managed to watch this, and aah it's so cool! I also realized about 3/4 of the way through that your commentary was keeping me engaged and interested the whole time. When it was over I was like wait...already? But what's he gonna do next?? :P

    I'm loving the progression of your videos. While looking for different camera angels I think you could really benefit from having some overhead ones mixed in. I can't tell just from the video what kind of grinder you're using but using aluminum disks on steel is much faster if you ever need the time boost.

    • @BennettTheSmith
      @BennettTheSmith  5 років тому

      That means a lot, thanks! The progression is a big part of what I’m trying to show, so I’m glad that’s showing through.
      I agree, I have a plan for a camera mount that would make that feasible. I only have a tripod that stands at most four and a half feet tall. It really limits what I can do. Putting it on the table I’m working on is a bad idea cause vibration. But yes, a swinging compound arm attached to the central I-beam in the shop perhaps...

    Nice job. For you 2x72 I would recommend saving up for some metal rollers. They helped me so much. You can make them too.

      What specific differences did you notice with the metal rollers? I need to build a whole new machine soon, so I’ll upgrade the wheels then.

      Bennett Marschner for me they run a lot smoother and reduce the amount of chatter.

    Hey man loved the vid, where did you get that metal piece at the start that becomes the axe head? Like where could I buy it and what is it called

    • @BennettTheSmith
      @BennettTheSmith  5 років тому +1

      Glad you like it :). The metal is a piece of plate steel, or flat bar (depends on dimensions... I think). It’s hot rolled mild steel. For small pieces like that, I go to “the metal supermarket” because they have offcut racks you can browse. I do my best thinking when I can look at what’s available and work from there.

      Awesome thanks for the quick reply I will make sure to share this vid. Also what was the thickness and how did you decide what thickness of that mild steel to buy?

    • @BennettTheSmith
      @BennettTheSmith  5 років тому

      You’re welcome! It was 1/2” plate, chosen for being very close to the intended maximum thickness of the finished axe blade.

    Can you make a quick vid of a walk through of your belt grinder? I too will be making one using skateboard wheels. Just curious on how to crown the wheel too.

    • @BennettTheSmith
      @BennettTheSmith  5 років тому

      I'd be happy to answer any questions, though mine is pretty rough and I'm planning on building another soon. The crowning is a simple hack. I wrapped electrical tape around the wheel very tightly. Several passes were applied, with each pass being narrower, so more tape was around the center of the wheel. It took a little adjusting, but it worked surprisingly well.
      Definitely add a way to lock the tensioner in place and ground the frame of the grinder!

      Awesome bro! Thank a bunch. When you make the new grinder film it I would love to see it.
