Hi Michael, I'm actually removing a fresh water setup in my 180gl tank and starting from scratch to convert to a saltwater setup. I am using 2 FX6 canister filters. When putting in the water and salt in the beginning, when can I add the Live rock once I have the correct salinity? Also do i have to add bacteria or would the live rock be sufficient? Please help.
I am trying to get a saltwater tank going. Is the salinity shown on your hydrometer what it should be for any size tank? Or should the salinity be higher or lower if you have a smaller or bigger tank?
The problem with switching salt is the difference in PH and alkalinity that the other salt has . It’s either going to raise or lower those numbers for you . If you plan to switch I suggest to have test kits to monitor those numbers and do it very slowly. Possibly over weeks and months of water changes
Thank you, I’ve had a salt water set up for 4 months and didn’t know this. As I’ve been using regular instant ocean 🌊 🤣👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You are welcome
Great video, I actually feel confident doing salt water now

Great video man.
Don Gallagher thank you! This was the scariest thing for me when setting up my first tank . I hope it helps people get into saltwater
very very interesting vid. Love it.
Fish Keeping Jamaica thank you !
What I have found is to tap the unit on the counter a few times.. just to make sure no air bubbles are in the unit. That will change your salinity
Michael - for water changes - do you let that water in the bucket sit for 24 hours and if so, does it have to have filtering?
I use RODI water for the most part but if you were to use tap I recommend letting it sit for 24 hours or using a good product to take out chlorine

1.023 -1.025 is a good amount of salt for any saltwater tank
Great tips Mike! Guess who maybe getting a marine tank......
Thank you ! I hope you do . They are awesome!
Thank you ! I hope you do . They are awesome!
I wonder how accurate the hydrometer is vs refractometer?
Nice I run mine at .024
Angelo's Fish Tanks awesome ! What salt do you use ?
Michael Eugenio I actually use aquaforest I’m not sure if you heard of it?
Angelo's Fish Tanks actually no I never did . I will check it out
Is it ok to switch salt over time

Don't buy it don't Buy it I los my fish for that thing
Definitely can be something that is not great . I calibrate mine all the time and never had an issue losing fish for it being inaccurate
