I spoke "formal" English (aka the Queen's English) in school but patois in the house. The thinking by my mom was to use proper English most of the time so that when I grew up, I could speak it in a professional setting; patois was for family and friends. I believe most Jamaicans do this. I love the way you go in and out when you speak patois/English, it is part of the beauty of our culture.
