Mike is an amazing musician not just a drummer. Years ago he sat in for Overkill during a Halloween Party for Eddie Trunks show with only six hours to learn the setlist...which he pulled off with incredible results. Cheers Mike. You prove that its not all about speed and sounding like a human drum machine like most of these youtube 'superstars'. Its all about the mastery of your musical accompanyment craft AS a true musician. Which you are and always will be. Youre an Awesome songwriter too.
Neil Pearte was a drummer of drummers. He pulled off his drumming skills that most of us would never even think of let alone try to do especially in the drum solos. RIP Professor.
Beyond his strength, speed and power. To me it was his arrangements. He seemed to create or capture the mood of a song. Nothing ever seemed to be too much or too little. Always the perfect beat, fill , tone. He allowed Lee and Lifeson the room to stretch out and show their incredible talents as well.
I love how he talks about Neil the same way I talk about him. My "Rush" is Dream Theater and my favourite fills are from Metropolis Part 1, Dance Of Eternity, and Panic Attack.
It's so call how we have these different 'generations' of idols. I'm with you man with DT and don't actually like Rush very much, but that's just me. I love Mike's work on 'This Dying Soul'.
One of the very best drummer in theveorld iny opinion. As a loyal Rush fan since I was 12 now 61. They will never be duplicated ever the sound that they produced with just three members was just phenomenoninal Geddy a master of bass and Synthesizer Alex master of guitar and way under rated then of course the professor Neil Peart the very best miss them all and still have most if their albums Bytor the snow dog Trees Boons bane my fave is Witch hunt ❤❤❤ great job Mike
Loved Neil, and I am a bass player! He was the perfect drummer for Rush! He wasn’t the first, but he was definitely the most influential drummer in Rush!
Same here, been a musician all my life the last 25 years professionally i was 8 when i got my first drum kit was a 3 piece Ludwig with blue silver pearl shells got a Tama 7 piece at 12 and that's the age i was exposed to Rush and saw them on the Moving Pictures tour. I combined the 2 kits into one mis matching huge kit, learned every Rush album all the way to Grace Under Pressure when i started getting serious about guitar that i had been noodling with for a while. I've now been playing guitar over 30 years but drums are in my heart and i still play them as much as possible, i write and record allot by myself now play all the instruments myself because i am done touring in bands it's something I've always wanted to do but never could because i was in working bands.
I love listening to artists I admire talk about their inspirations, their heroes, their what made them want to continue perfecting their crafts people.
Peart is the reason i started playing. Portnoy and dream theater i got introduced to years later that continued my education along with bonham, and then the nu metal scene introduced me to joey jordison. I was at a great age to be able "mentored" per say by the goats.
I think it is hard they come back, Geddy can't sing well, his voice is getting worse and worse, since a long time!! BUT, if they did and called Portnoy, they should warn him three months in advance! The two last months, Mike would spend preparing for the big spot! The first month, he'd spend crying like a baby!
Same her, sir. I started playing drums after hearing my first Rush album. My band played 2112 for navy non coms at Travis Air Force base, they went nuts! Of course, we didn't play the whole thing; just up to finding the guitar in a cave beneath a waterfall....lol
Na nedávném videu kanálu Drumeo má Mike Portnoy nátělník nesoucí velkou pravdu.. Že přední strany jméno Neil Peart s číslem 1 a zadní strana nese jméno Mike Portnoy s číslicí 1 👍❤️
I was honestly very impressed with how much he smashed Alex's parts in the Modern Drummer AVH tribute videos (and on Alex's kit no less!). I think that MP has different priorities this days when it comes to his own parts, but he definitely has a deeper musical vocabulary than he seems to give himself credit for.
One of them sounds like a Primus song. I wanna say pudding time . I could be totally off But it does resemble Tim Herb Alexaner of Primus. Or maybe it's the other way around I guess I can say.
The amount of recorded material we have to remember him by is a true blessing.
This is so true.
Early DT albums Images and words plus Awake are still masterpieces to this day.
also Falling Into Infinity is very underrated
@@robertweekes5783 Yeah a pretty good album but less great than the others of the nineties.
You are carrying his torch well. Saw you live more than once. Neil would be proud.
The Trees has phenomenal drumming.......wait, every rush song does.
Xanadu absolutely rocks though, but yeah Neil was the drum GOD of all time.
I *LOVE* The Trees
Hemispheres is the pinnacle Rush album. Amazing ❤
EXACTLY!
even when they're not phrnomenal, they're always super tasty
Neil is never truly gone. I listen to him every week... And thank God Neil was allowed to grace us with his presence

Peart's body of work is staggering. He did so much mind blowing stuff.
Neil Peartwas the guy who influenced me to play drums and I still play today.
Thanks Mike and RIP Neil

The Master learned from the Jedi Master. Way to carry the torch. Neil would be Very Proud of you.
Mike Portnoy is Obi-Wan, Neil was Yoda.
Portnoy just seems like a genuinely cool guy, and an amazing drummer.
Portonoy, Danny Carey, and Peart - BRILLIANT DRUMMERS
His drum style like Asian because he likes to roll
I love seeing g a seasoned musician play songs from his youth with such joy
I love how he talks about Neil the same way I talk about him. My "Rush" is Dream Theater and my favourite fills are from Metropolis Part 1, Dance Of Eternity, and Panic Attack.

Awesome Mike, the Memory of Neil is with Humanity for the long distant future.
Neil Peart = GOAT !
You are awsome! I grew up with John Bonham, then Neil Peart. Again, you rock! Thank you for smile!
I love subdivisions. Great tune and great lyrics that really hit home in Canada iykyk

I got to see Neil 4 times and 4 times will never be enough. I'm so grateful.
Well Mr. Portnoy, you're in the top of the list of talented drummers as well. Love your work too.
Because he's the best
I'm a big Rush fan .... I remember when Dream Theatre's first album came out ... They were my second favorite band.... Portnoy is awesome...
He was featured on Geddy's solo album
Loved Neil, and I am a bass player!

Peart & Gonzo Bonham were my 2 favorites as a kid in the 70s.
Building on a solid foundation! Respect to you and RIP to Neil! 🫡
All i know is since the 1st DT album came out you've been one of my drum heroes, and im 63....
Lakeside park appreciation🔥🔥
Neil Peart was my #1 and will always be
I love listening to artists I admire talk about their inspirations, their heroes, their what made them want to continue perfecting their crafts people.
Neil is/was the big King on drums!
Bonzo and Cozy Powell great drumers too!
Ya ROCK DUDE!
Blessing your hero!!❤️
Neil was the goat.

He was able to take all of those Neil fundamentals and craft his own unique beats and fills, which was a huge part of DT's sound.
If they do a reunion and get back together Rush, I've been saying for years Mike portnoy is the guy to play drums
I don’t think the fans would accept that. I get what you’re saying tho and I agree with you but I think RUSH as we knew it is done.
I think if they were to do anything, Mike would be a great choice, and I'm sure Neil would approve. It could never be Rush again...
I think it is hard they come back, Geddy can't sing well, his voice is getting worse and worse, since a long time!!

@@Nothing-db1zy Some people just can’t be replaced and Neil is 100% one of those people. His impact on the band was too severe.
@@johndardi1334 His style was quite unique, it's a tough task thinking of someone to replace "oh captain, my captain" on the drums!

He's so skilled, knows so many great parts from great songs, and yet still uses the same fills in every song.
*Sextuplets intensify*

Neil Peart, Eric Carr, Robert Sweet, and YOU! The 4 of you sculpted me as a drummer!!
Peart: your favorite drummers favorite drummer. RIP to the GOAT.
Hope Geddy and Alex see this. Maybe a one off tour someday????
Mike is amazing.
My first DT album was Metropolis 2. The whole time hearing it the first time all I could think of was how much the drumming reminded me of Neil.
Metropolis is my favorite by DT.
If you learned Neil's drums...you are truly a professional. !! Well done brother. !!!
Lakeside Park is an awesome song off my favorite Rush album
Happy to see Caress of Steel getting some love! One of my favs too!!
Mike Portnoy : "The Man of a 1000 Bands"!!!! 😂😂😂😂
Portnoy e Peart, quer algo melhor. Dois gênios, o que mais dizer. Gratidão por isso.
I'm right there with you I love Rush
I like subdivisions because we already know he's a kick ass percussionist, so the cymbal and groove make it that much more enjoyable.
The world was a better place with Neil in it.
Your awsome - go RUSH -BIG FAN ❤
Neil was a major drumming influence on me as well as well as Mike
The fills in YYZ makes the neck hair move. And yet, of all things to mention I guess I wasn't wrong sonically. 🤘
Here we can see a Monster of drums playing songs of a God of drums ❤❤
Me too all the way! Him and Bonham!
Me to Mike. Just played all the world's a stage yesterday
Sounds incredible isolated like that. Makes me appreciate Neil even more…if that’s possible.
My DREAM is that MP togethers with Lifeson and Lee and play a tribute to Peart.
The riff after the YyZ
TriTone intro,..
what an education,..
Passage to Bangkok mid section
- Didacts & Narpets
I *knew* Rush was a big influence on DT the moment I heard their songs, it's nice to know I was correct in that feeling
Also, not enough people point out how good Neil’s drums sounded. Just a great tone he pulled out of them.
RIP Neil
Sound's Excellent ! 🥁 👍
Neil was my biggest influence and Mike is a close second
Totally agree
He was every drummers guy!!!
I still love Rush.
🙏❤🌹 Neil 🌹❤🙏
Incredible
Love the PROFFESSOR! Love your work too brother
Your my "biggest hero" in drums aside from Joey Jordison and Jimmy The Rev Sullivan, rock on dude you inspire ao many🖤🤟🤟🤟
Me to!
If and i mean IF..they reunite.
This is the man..
By emulating the best, you become the best.
I air-drummed along to RUSH as a teenager, and then air-drummed to Dream Theater as an adult 🤘😎
Amen brother rest in peace Neil
Portnoy can play Anything from memory. He's A god
Same..after he passed I got a Neil tat
Very cool hun love it😊❤❤❤
i love rush, man❤
I love Mike.
Respect
One more Rush tour with Portnoy please.
Peart didn’t play “the drums”,
he played an entire percussion symphony
You rip!😉👍
Rush ❤
Amen
Fenomeno !!!!
Neil was the Genius!!
Funny, Portnoy, Bruford, and Carey were my first influences.
Yeah, he even played with Charlie Dominici who sounded like Geddy Lee.
RIP
One of them sounds like a Primus song. I wanna say pudding time .
I could be totally off But it does resemble Tim Herb Alexaner of Primus. Or maybe it's the other way around I guess I can say.
Same
R.I.P. Neil Ellwood Peart
Neil…RULES!
We all did in that era.
Very cool.
About time someone pronounced his name right 😂😂😂
I like RUSH, but Mike Portnoy and Dream Theater are my favorite !! 🥁 🎼 🎸
THE REALLY GOATS
