You are so wonderful! I just took over doing the "books" for my husband and his small business. I just realized that I just "cleaned up his books"! Can we instruct a client to keep receipts and not mix personal with business transactions if they hire me to do their books?

Yes, you should absolutely instruct and require your client to not mix business and personal transactions. As for receipts, the client is responsible for maintaining receipts (not the bookkeeper). The client should keep receipts but ultimately you cannot force them if they don't do it.
