Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is finally here and it's the first review. Wow, were the actors right! If nothing else happened from the marketing of Rings of Power, we were all prepared for this, although I wasn't prepared for the sheer amount of dodgy lines and lack of ANYTHING happening. While filming this I had only watched episode 1. Let's see how episode 2 turns out tomorrow! What did you think of the episode/review? Let me know your thoughts below, and as always, thanks for watching :)

It began with the forging of the great films. Threads were given by Tolkien, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Rights were granted to Jackson, great miner and craftsman of the mountain of lore. And nine, nine hours were gifted to the race of men, who above all else, desire quality. But they were all of them deceived, for another show was made. In the land of Amazon, in the fires of Mount Prime, the Dark Lord Bezos forged in secret a master flop. And into this show he poured his money, his greed and his will to dominate all film. One show to ruin them all.

The odd thing is they've actually nerfed Galadriel here. She's above all these people talking down to her. She's not a Pleb in the second age. She's one of the oldest Elves left in Middle Earth, from (arguably ) the highest royal line of elves there is. She's the aunt of Gil-Galad, the king who talks down to her, and the Mother in law of Eldrond who is hundreds of years younger at the very least.

The whole premise of Galadriel returning to Valinor, even having Gil Galad SEND her there, it really highlights just how little the writers care about Tolkien and the actual lore regarding his characters. It's absolutely fantastic they show the elves all sailing to Middle-Earth. Guess we'll just skip those "problematic" and "unimportant" bits like the First Kinslaying and the Helcaraxe. Definitely not something that helped define Galadriel's character and cemented her opposition to Feanor and his sons...
I can't handle these idiots showing dragons in the first battle shown in Beleriand. Dragons weren't around at that point. I mean, it's certainly possible that the battle they showed was one of the battles that had dragons...but why start in the middle or end?
LOL. Orcs multiplied under Sauron after the War of Wrath?!?! No. No they didn't. At least not until well into the Second Age. In fact, in several sources, Tolkien indicated that Sauron initially tried to repent his evil, but he was afraid of the judgement of the Valar so he hid from them. He didn't actually return to his evil ways for quite a while. And he certainly wasn't increasing the numbers of orcs as soon as the War of Wrath ended.

Galadriel - in Amazon - definitely not strategist, makes fun of politics, is an outsider of Elven society (somehow? It makes no sense along with her title) and seems able to fight with a sword (as long as opponent is extra permissive with all her blind-spots and unnecessary motions) but there seems to be not even iota of mysticism to her.
One is utterly powerful and awe inspiring. Other... is basically a 'bad example'.
    Guess which is which?

I recently watched "Fay" review this and she made an excellent point: Middle Earth was created to replace the Anglo-Saxon myths. What is an origami boat doing in a European fantasy? There's no care put into the world building in this show, and given the world was already built for them, it's not asking a lot.

Also how the hell can Galadriel be bullied?! She is basically a princess of her house. She has enough ball to refuse her uncle Feanor, aka the most important elf of his time. She is special since the day she was born because of her uniquely gold and silver hair. By all mean she should have royalty treatment.
But I guess all of that is meaningless to the show runner if she can't wield a sword.

Yeah, but Muh Intersectionalism means the fuckin' idiots who vomited this shit out are incorrigible racists (and sexists! but that's not as relevant here...) who think white people are the literal source and origin of all evil in history.
Having a show based on "white" myths? (And I know race and color have fuck-all to do with Tolkein or his motivations, and the entire subject of race is dealt with in LotR in like 8 words..)
That would be Muh Huwhite Supremacy.
      Having an all-English cast?
      Muh Huwite Supremacy.
Creating Huwite Male characters who aren't 1) weak 2) totally subordinate to female characters 3) useless in all ways save making female characters look amazing by comparison (theoretically, anyway) 4) evil (only straight while male who isn't a bipedal dung-beetle is Halbrand, aka Sauron)?
Muh Patriarchal White Supremacy. Can't have that. That's their idea of Satan.
This show is only bad for two reasons, basically.
The all-pervading nature of the politics crammed into it so said politics can be crammed into us....
..and the utter lack of care at a high level to make a quality product because of all the ways that would violate their politics (like hiring based on merit instead of race, respecting the lore rather than gutting it to cram intersectionalism/Marxism twice-removed/racial supremacy/sexistic supremacy/their contempt for us fans insofar as we're white, male, straight, and not Marxists blindly following its newest incarnation of Wokism...etc, etc, ad nauseam).
On the off chance you think I'm being less than totally literal and truthful as best I can, I can point you toward some creators on YT who can demonstrate what I've been, well, ranting about. :)

The tragedy is that it could all have been so good - for example Finrod was the first one of the Noldor to meet human beings, and centuries later it is Finrod (brother of Galadriel) who breaks the chains binding him and kills a wearwolf with his bare hands - dying in the process, to save a human being. And not any human being - but Beren - the ancestor of both Elrond and Elros - the first King of Numenor. Think of that as a flash back when Galadriel is talking to Elrond or the men of the West - "you would not even exist if it was not for my brother's self-sacrifice" - being the UNSPOKEN message. That was the point of the Halls of Mandos. Galadriel was only born, because her Gandfather's first wife (Miriel) had died (and was refusing to be re-embodied).

You're not missing much. They spoon feed the viewer every city name when it pops up in strange writing like you're watching balamory. Ever actor, bar the actress who plays Nori has no emotion and delivers every line like they're playing a sarcastic version of themselves and, because there's no real focus on any 1 character, it just feels like a bbunch of people cut together into one film. I think the Hobbit would have been a fail without Ian Mckelen. Having him tie everything back together really made it easier to view and more palatable. In this, it's like Narnia had sex with the Burrowers and this plopped out.

Fun fact: in the books, by the time Galadriel was born, The light was still coming from Laurelin and Telperion, the golden and the silver tree, in a cycle of seven hours of light from one tree and then seven hours of twilight from both trees then seven hours of light from the other tree, and then again seven hours of twilight from both. So a day was about 42 hours until Ungoliant, with the help of Morgoth, withered both trees. The destruction scene was wrong because without the trees the only light that remains, until the creation of the moon and the sun, was what was coming from the night stars. Also, the scene before, the one with the two trees still alive, was also wrong because they are active on full power only one at a time and the times they were both awake the light emitted was dim not bright as they have shown.

So it came to pass, some years ere the coming of Orome, that if any of the elves strayed far abroad, alone or few together, they would often vanish and never return; and the Quendi said that the Hunter had caught them, and they were afraid." Hold up …
This may just me being confused because I’m hearing about it through reviews only … but did they seriously associate Galadriel rejecting Valinor and jumping into the sea to that chat about looking up or down to find the light?
Because, if they did, then by the show’s own logic, Galadriel chose evil. She looked down. She was blinded by the light she saw in the depths (namely, her revenge) and dove in after it. Then, when you consider that Valinor is basically Elf Heaven, and factor in that Tolkein’s Catholic perspective as an integral force that shaped his work … our heroine literally chose to go to Hell just for the chance to spite a guy who was already doomed to go there.
Maybe the show will acknowledge and explore this, but I doubt it. They’re probably going to imply that Galadriel chose to do good and that going to Valinor was the evil choice. Setting aside how that would mean that her story ultimately ends in her choosing the evil choice after Lord of the Rings, that would also mean that they are demonizing the Valar (the good guys). What moral high ground would she then have to hunt Sauron? Is it purely for revenge?
Again, I get that this problem may just be me misunderstanding what I’m hearing in reviews. If someone can provide me with more context that will smooth things out, that would be appreciated.

This analysis is a lot more detailed and thorough than any of Disparu’s contemporaries. I’m impressed. My compliments.

It was also great to get to see Elrond do some fighting as well. He has a wicked spinning back kick and I loved how every time he landed one he yelled "ROADHOUSE". That was a nice tribute to Patrick Swayze who I hear was a big Tolkien fan. Nice touch Amazon. Kudos to you.

The way Galadriel is written is the same exact wrong-headed way supposedly “strong” women are always written. You hear it all the time when women say “if a woman acts bossy she’s called a b**ch”. Yes, if you act like a b**ch, then you’re a b**ch. I’ve worked for several men who were complete a-holes because they acted just like this character and I hated every moment of it as did all my co workers, male and female. If a male character was portrayed as insufferable as Galadriel is in this show, not a single person would say “what an awesome manly man”. Good grief modern, woke writers are just complete morons.

Another great video! The Shadow Spider-Thing is Ungoliant. Truly something to behold, she was the size of a small city. Too bad they got this show off on the wrong foot without the rights to key plot elements.

My problem was the characterization, in the movies, elves had this glow and aura about them that made them look different. You notice that in the Hobbit as well, how Legolas, Tauriel and Legolas' father gave off a different aura than Bilbo and the dwarves, you could tell them apart by a single look. The difference between elves in the series and in the movies, is that in the series they look like humans with long ears, they don't have that nobility and majesty in them that the movies show.

By the way... a boat doesn’t sail when it doesn’t have a sail. Her swan 🦢 boat 🚤 was floating down a river with lots of currents.
    So she was literally wrong.
