Making a super ✨ QUICK & EASY ✨ pinafore

- Hello everyone and welcome to a new video!
In my effort to keep making things for my wardrobe, but also to make quicker projects that I do not agonise or stress over, I got this really cute little pinafore dress together! The skirt is from Butterick's B5970, adapted to be shorter and so that the back two panels are actually just the front two again, but with added seam allowance.
I used 3.5 meters of burn orange polyester corduroy, and I had just over 0.5 m left which can be used to either make a hem facing, or a decorative ruffle for the bottom of the dress. The closure is at the centre back, with a skirt placket, a button and buttonhole, and snaps. The straps cross over the back, and they attach to the waistband with buttons and buttonholes for a bit more versatility. Overall, I think it's a very practical dress, very comfortable, and just on the perfect edge of simple, where it can be dressed up but I can wear it on the day to day and across all seasons!

Which season styling was your favourite? Lemme know in the comments ❤️
The spring one! The embroidered shirt collar is lovely!
I love summer and autumn 🍂
Winter for me!
Summer & Autumn!
I liked the autumn look
Saw this cold-opened with math, leaving to make myself a comforting cup of tea before coming back
The maths didn't stick 🤣
That's brilliantly done! Making it so the bib can be worn back or front is something I hadn't even considered! I must make this!!
Gorgeous pinafore! I am feeling very inspired to make myself one too!! Also amazing time for a side seam pocket tutorial, as I was literally tackling sewing pockets while watching your video. Thanks.
That dress turned out so cute, just a quick comment for drafting 3/4 circle skirts you can divide your waist measurement by 3 then times it by 4 to find out what the circumference of the inner circle would be to cut out just three panels. Hope that made sense, Love the pinafore again, I really want to get some cord like that it looks so wintery.
This is the simplistic maths I need. Thank you so much.
You are such a darling, kind and comforting person. Thank you for brightening my day and giving me the confidence I needed to make a new project ❤
Man I wish someone would give me a load of red corduroy! I like it with the black best, very cosy. Mariah Pattie has a great video on drafting patterns for various fullnesses of circle skirt. I would also think the simplest way of doing 3/4 skirt would be to get your waist measurement, divide by 3, + seam allowances, and create a literal quarter of a circle, then you could cut out a semi-circle as in the diagram (or add a seam in the middle to make it 3 pieces for centre back closing), and one more quarter-circle piece. I never buy enough fabric to make very full skirts
Pocketses! Best part of any project
Those pockets are genius! They go anyway you wear the pinafore! 😁🍻🧙♂️
Thanks for creating your videos Cat, I really do love your channel 🙂
I'm always one for a white shirt with a pinafore. A neckerchief in a bright colour and the outfit is a go-to. Really love the style Cat! Made one myself recently, wore for the first time today. A success! Congrats to us both!
Very becoming skirt pattern The extra gathered bulk at the waist is something none of us needs! This pattern eliminates that bulk, which is great!
You are adorable! if I ever learn how to sew, it's going to be Pinafores and circle skirts with wide waist bands all day every day😉
I love the versatility, and would love to see a make with the bib potion removable to more easily achieve all the looks! ❤
That’s the exact fabric I have (except it’s a bit darker) and I felt the exact same way. I knew it should be a pinafore
I made a half circle skirt out of the exact same material like 2 years ago but I didn't know corduroy has direction so one side of my skirt was a totally different shade than the other, I wish I'd have seen your video back then ❤
The sewing machine is excellent, I like how it's not aggressively hammering. Nice dress.🥰
love me a versatile piece that can be worn year round. personally winter is my fav styling, as there is just something about pinafores over sweaters that i cannot explain
Already drafted is the best pattern ever.
Ah Cat! This is so cute! So fabulous you can wear it so many ways.
Love this look, the corduroy's colour is so rich, and there are so many outfits you can make with this
That’s lovely! The versatility you built in is great. I wonder how much corduroy I have in my stash…. No I must continue with projects already started!!!
I’ve been making a pinafore dress out of corduroy for the last however many months 🥲🥲. It’s a button front one so a bit different but that circle skirt part tripped me up too. I didn’t have much fabric so I just gave in and did it but if I ever make it again I’m definitely gonna use a pattern like you did. Your pinafore came out really nicely and the colour is gorgeous ❤!
I LOVE THE STYLING TIPS! THANK YOU! SO CUTE!
Nice job! Beautiful results.❤
I've just started posting my sewing journey on my channel I made a winter unicorn dress did my first zipper took two hours lol I might try and follow this little tutorial and see if I can get something as cute xx
I thought all styling was cute! I was wondering about the skirt, they look so darn good on you!
cat! it's wonderful! it's cute as can be, and i love how versatile it is. it's a gorgeous color, and it looks lovely on you.
:)
It is very cute, I love the pinafore, I made a pinafore in black Ponte knit and love it
I too picked up some red fabric that I thought should be the similar style dress!
theme for this video: "I'll figure it out" :P
Cuuute! I love the color.
Gorgeous!
mood has a great circle skirt calculator, all you do is plug in your waist measurement and how long you want it. I'm not a big fan of doing math so I've found it saves me a lot of time and headache.
Or you could split the 3/4 into 3x 1/4 and place those upside down across the fabric. Edit: Forgot curderoy has a direction; absolutely do not cut the pattern pieces upside down if using curderoy. 😂
I like the last version the best, the skirt and black pullover. Are there two parts for this pinafore or did you just cleverly hide the bodice inside?
So glad you ended up not doing the three quarter. I think you would have been disappointed with the lack of drape in the corduroy.
I'm always a fan of autumn, so the orange and corduroy and a pinafore? Could I choose anything else as my favourite?!
So cute!
It’s super cute!
Cat, you should really cut your hair into a long Bob. Your curls would look amazing!! It would look so cool! ❤
0.75 is just decimal for 3/4.
You're making a 270* arc which is 75% of a full circle (360*)
The simplest way of drafting any degree circle skirt is to make a pattern for the circle that is your waist(!) not the full skirt.
you draw a circle with diameter=waist (+ease) and fold it into a quarter or a 45* wedge and then measure your skirt length out by that.
For anything less than a full circle: your new waist diameter is waist*X/360+ ease
x/360 is the same as Y/4 or multpliying by the decimal equivalent. It's just your scale.
and you add the ease after you scale. not before.
what is the magical tool?!?!?!??! I constantly struggle turning out my tubes for my aprons or dresses
It would be much easier to cut 1 half circle and 1 quater circle (or 3 quarter circles) with the radius of the 3/4 circle to create the complete skirt pattern.
Love the pinafore. Which model is your vintage Singer? I love how smooth and quiet it runs. Excellent video, thanks.
The sudden bobbin winding and sewing was shockingly loud
15:10 Cat, I love you, but please, for the love of Goddess, when you are editing your videos could it be possible for you to lower the decibels of the parts when you are sewing, your machine sounds like dentist drill and a hammer had a love-child and it makes my heart jump out of my chest every time... 😅
*You are the very model of a....*
Sorry; but when someone says *pinafore* there is one place where most minds go...and new generations know of it thanks to Sideshow Bob! ;)

That is absolutely charming. Love all the different ways that you styled it.
I really need that skirt pattern.
The topstitched seam make it look vert smart and crisp. Nice touch.
I love how this skirt falls :)
Love it, gorgeous colour!
This was so lovely. ❤
