When I was 11-12, my great aunt went into a home and I ended up with her AM radio that was the size of a small shoebox, so it probably had tubes. I had terrible insomnia, but I wasn't allowed to stay up. So, I would get up out of bed in the dark and turn (it had dials) it on so softly that I had to keep my ear to it to hear it. We lived just outside Los Angeles and I would listen to KHJ radio (id jingle: 🎶 Ninth Street KHJ!🎶) with the top 10 of the late sixties in my ear. There were a few close calls, but my parents suspected reading. They never caught me with a book, flashlight, or the light on, so I was relatively safe.
AM radio here in the US was great. At night you could pick up far away stations. I had a small transistor and listened under the covers to The Beatles.
The signal was always stronger at night. ( at least I think so) so so many memories of static, fuzzy sounds as I would turn the dial..the bits and pieces of the different radio shows...so many good memories

Ha-ha! We don't all say "can I get"--Some of us do know that it is more proper to say "may I have"---it is mostly dependent on class or education. Also, geographical region plays an important role in how we say things. Some regions say "Gimme dis or gimme dat" (Give me this or that) or "let me have that there..." There are all kinds of dialects in America and some are very hard to understand even to fellow Americans. Tony, your American accent has come along! I carried on listening to you and was interested that you mention stone circles in Scotland. A friend just moved to a place with a stone circle on the property. Then you mentioned Carnac which is one of my favourite places as I used to live near there. I really dislike the word gotten! Probably because I was taught in primary school that the words get and got are ugly and you should always use have instead. So much of what you say is the way I tend to think. Carnac in Brittany....the first and only time I've see standing stones wow...the first day i made it to carnac it was an hour before sunset i couldn't wait...very dramatic atmosphere very eerily quiet!.....unforgettable!

This story has a lot to answer for with all the carry on anywhere there is a hint of a carved stone and a moon - no matter the temperature. It does wonders for tourism also. Well, I finished listening to the story, then I woke up somewhere in the middle of something about quavers. I'm not sure what they are (I'm guessing not the musical variety), but I did have a lovely after-brekkie snooze to the accompaniment of your voice, which was very pleasant. I'm more ignorant than I thought . I read a very little about Stonehenge in such places at times but I don't recall that I ever heard of C arnak in Brittany, although I have now looked it up once you mention it. You are educational for someone like me

This was such an interesting and eepy-creepy story. Loved it!! It's so interesting to hear you say the British children play in American accents, now-a-days. There's something called "English accents phenomenon" here in the U.S.., whereas American speak predominantly with British accents because of watching mostly British children's television shows. Such as Angelina Ballerina and Pepa Pig, as well as others.
Great story again,spend my time listening to them while I paint wargame figures after packing in heavy industry due to heart problems,the author does say fall instead of autumn so wondered if he was American as you later said.

Hello from the US! I have long covid, too. I hope you're getting better! I'm glad I live in a state with legal Marijuana. That really helps for pain relief.
That was the point at which I had to stop and google 'do they have moors in the USA'? I got lots of answers regarding the Moors (Moorish people) so had to change it to 'moorlands'. The answer is they sort of do, especially in the far north, they just don't call them moors and there is far less heather.
I also think your accents are great. Having just listened to Dracula, I thought the accents were very good indeed. Very clear differentiation of characters. I was also impressed by your reading of some Irish in one of the stories: very hard to do.
I was just leafing through my copy of House of Leaves yesterday! Now there's a book that would never be the same on Kindle. The shipping report sounds similar to number stations. I'd love to hear it sometime--reminds me of the Black Books episode where Fran is infatuated with the shipping report voice. 😂

I think you do an American accent very well on a few occasions when I heard you do them. One time you did an excellent American accent but said in your comments that it was in New York accent and I did a double take inside my mind and I did a double take inside my mind because the accent you did gave no hint of attempting to be in New York accent to my ears.

This story was okay, I liked your critique of it and found the "American clues" interesting in your analysis. I was awake the whole time and laughed several times during the blather, my favorite bit. Your book you're writing about the weird house with levels and changing rooms---I have VISITED that house (or its American cousin-house) many times in my dreams!!! It's a freaky place and it must be one of those Universal what-do-ya-callits in the human consciousness/psyche. I'm a very strong Dream Rememberer---since childhood. I always come back from those house dreams feeling like more SPACE has been opened up in my Mind, having paid it one more visit, discovered yet another strange area. My subterraneous dream house once had an entire underground train depot down there, with lots of passengers coming and going, as well as a river near-by! I really enjoy can you talk after the story getting biographical information about the author and when the story was originally published it all related things . sometimes you free associate about related stories and other stories and about writing in general. I enjoy hearing it's quite a bit, it seems a sensible thing to enjoy . But sometimes you continue -- blather on is the phrase you use -- and I usually enjoy listening to that too; the only reason I can think why I enjoy hearing that is there must be something wrong with me .

I'm an American who has spent a good amount of time in Britain and I've 'gotten' my share of Quavers and Whatzits. And I too was a little confused by the description of the stone circle. They most certainly didn't all have half-moon altars and such, although you will find the recumbent and flanker altars in Scotland. He almost got it right by getting it wrong.
I also realized (American spelling) that our American friend also seems confused about the moon. A half moon with horns? Surely he means a crescent moon. It's still a fun story. I do like my henges, dolmens, and tumuli.

I carried on listening to you and was interested that you mention stone circles in Scotland. A friend just moved to a place with a stone circle on the property. Then you mentioned Carnac which is one of my favourite places as I used to live near there.
I really dislike the word gotten! Probably because I was taught in primary school that the words get and got are ugly and you should always use have instead. So much of what you say is the way I tend to think. I really like listening to you. Thank you.

Carnac in Brittany....the first and only time I've see standing stones wow...the first day i made it to carnac it was an hour before sunset i couldn't wait...very dramatic atmosphere very eerily quiet!.....unforgettable!

I love the aside remarks and personal happenings, it gives me the feeling of having a family member or friend chatting. As I live alone and am inclined to only go out a few times a year this is a beautiful experience of company.

Well, I finished listening to the story, then I woke up somewhere in the middle of something about quavers. I'm not sure what they are (I'm guessing not the musical variety), but I did have a lovely after-brekkie snooze to the accompaniment of your voice, which was very pleasant. I might go back and try to find out more about the quavers....

It's so interesting to hear you say the British children play in American accents, now-a-days. There's something called "English accents phenomenon" here in the U.S.., whereas American speak predominantly with British accents because of watching mostly British children's television shows. Such as Angelina Ballerina and Pepa Pig, as well as others.

I think YT algorithm flaggs certain comments and reviews them w AI to be sure they’re in line with guidelines (like, in this case it might be to check for misinformation about disease or fear mongering etc). That was the point at which I had to stop and google 'do they have moors in the USA'?
I got lots of answers regarding the Moors (Moorish people) so had to change it to 'moorlands'. The answer is they sort of do, especially in the far north, they just don't call them moors and there is far less heather.

I also think your accents are great. Having just listened to Dracula, I thought the accents were very good indeed. Very clear differentiation of characters. I was also impressed by your reading of some Irish in one of the stories: very hard to do.
I was just leafing through my copy of House of Leaves yesterday! Now there's a book that would never be the same on Kindle. The shipping report sounds similar to number stations. I'd love to hear it sometime--reminds me of the Black Books episode where Fran is infatuated with the shipping report voice. 😂

I think you do an American accent very well on a few occasions when I heard you do them. One time you did an excellent American accent but said in your comments that it was in New York accent and I did a double take inside my mind and I did a double take inside my mind because the accent you did gave no hint of attempting to be in New York accent to my ears.

lol! People just love to moan on about things, don't they---and I mean the 14%, not you and your Ramble. This story was okay, I liked your critique of it and found the "American clues" interesting in your analysis. I was awake the whole time and laughed several times during the blather, my favorite bit. Your book you're writing about the weird house with levels and changing rooms---I have VISITED that house (or its American cousin-house) many times in my dreams!!! It's a freaky place and it must be one of those Universal what-do-ya-callits in the human consciousness/psyche. I'm a very strong Dream Rememberer---since childhood. I always come back from those house dreams feeling like more SPACE has been opened up in my Mind, having paid it one more visit, discovered yet another strange area. My subterraneous dream house once had an entire underground train depot down there, with lots of passengers coming and going, as well as a river near-by! I really enjoy can you talk after the story getting biographical information about the author and when the story was originally published it all related things . sometimes you free associate about related stories and other stories and about writing in general. I enjoy hearing it's quite a bit, it seems a sensible thing to enjoy .
But sometimes you continue -- blather on is the phrase you use -- and I usually enjoy listening to that too; the only reason I can think why I enjoy hearing that is there must be something wrong with me .
I used to fall alseep to mono radio....always waited to hear a favourite song...before I'd switch it off...The Korgis...Kate Bush...etc...

I'm an American who has spent a good amount of time in Britain and I've 'gotten' my share of Quavers and Whatzits. And I too was a little confused by the description of the stone circle. They most certainly didn't all have half-moon altars and such, although you will find the recumbent and flanker altars in Scotland. He almost got it right by getting it wrong.
I do eat Quavers but they are deeply unsatisfying after the event
I also realized (American spelling) that our American friend also seems confused about the moon. A half moon with horns? Surely he means a crescent moon. It's still a fun story. I do like my henges, dolmens, and tumuli.
