    Absolute newby to what I now gather is a very complex world that is jade! Who knew it was this complex as my first foray into “jade” was New Zealand pounamu or nephrite. These type of technical discussions make me more interested in your world as a I fast fall down the jade rabbit holes. Keep it going, I love it!

    Another really nice video. I enjoy both the scientific and artistic aspects of Fei Cui. Especially anything related to Guatemalan jade. Just purchased the book. It’s been on my list since it premiered at the Tucson show.

    Absolutely love these educational, technical analysis type videos! ❤❤❤❤ please make more! I know you've covered every topic known to Jade but maybe a video about Indonesian Jade? They have nephrite jade that is green, white and even blue! And they have cats eye Jade and apparently they even have Jadeite. Worth looking into for some video content!

    It’s interesting how science can change how we see something like jade. I like omphacite jade but it can flake. I had a ring that started flaking but it had a distinct pattern I haven’t seen before. Looked like a computer hard drive.

    • @mintcrush2042
      @mintcrush2042 Рік тому

      Does this mean omphacite isn't durable?

    • @JewelsoftheTrade
      @JewelsoftheTrade  Рік тому +2

      @@mintcrush2042 No, omphacite jade can be very durable. But! It’s hard to call any piece of jade “omphacite,” since each specimen has varying amounts of jadeite, omphacite and kosmchlor that can’t be determined without destroying the specimen. Omphacite Jade is jade - as much as Jadeite Jade is jade - we just can’t really tell them apart. Fei Cui Jade’s (jadeite jade and omphacite jade) durability has more to do with how many times it metamorphised, or formed, because it’s toughness is largely dependent on the size of it’s crystalline microstructure. Usually, lower quality jade (larger crystals) is less durable than high quality jade (small crystals). And highly translucent jade is the most durable. Kaylan’s article on Lotus Gemology website can give you much more info on this! :)

    I have a blue jadeite bi pendant fro Guatemala. I believe it’s partially omphacite. This particular variety is called ‘midnight snow’ ‘princessa’ it’s not really available anymore, just tried looking online there’s nothing. I got it a few years ago. Glad I got it bc it rly has a beautiful look and energy. I swear it saved my life when I got Covid. I was wearing it out dancing when Covid HIT. In literally sat there rubbing it asking it to spare me, I felt death approaching, still traumatized lol haven’t been back to that spot. Anyway i ended up riding my bike back home in the rain at midnight. I thought I’d definitely die. I had to ride so hard to keep up my body heat. When I went to bed I acknowledged that I might pass in the night. Next morning I woke up perfectly healthy. It really saved me. 😭
