Thank you! I still have to watch the series somewhere, but here I can see some of the Joan scenes. I am her greatest fan! They really should make more shows about Edward III and his family.
@@leonrothier6638 Not really. England held Calais until 1558 and still had a claim to the French throne. France took nearly 500 years to completely kick the English out of France. Considering France was the more powerful Kingdom at the time that's not something to really be proud of. England could have won but we had many stupid Kings that lost important lands that previous English Kings gained.
@@JJaqn05 The English had the support of various duchies and states like Brittany and Burgundy against France, and France was constantly at war with the Holy Roman Empire and even its own nobility and despite that it still held out. Hell, even England’s own dynasty and nobility were of French origin for most of that era and had little direct control over their holdings in France considering that they too were controlled by French nobles. France’s economy and military as a whole was unstable until the innovations of the Bureau brothers. Even it’s navy was incredibly small and didn’t strengthen until the reign of Louis XIV in the 1600’s.
@@leonrothier6638 England also had many problems of it's own. And what do you mean they were controlled by the French nobility? The Normans conquered England yes but they were far too powerful to just be considered vassals to the French king. Because that's how Europe worked back then. The Plantagenets were also a powerful family who came from Anjou. At the time they identified with their local area not France itself so they wouldn't have seen themselves as French. But their origin doesn't really matter much because they became English just like how the original Norse settlers became Norman.
How anyone could call this man great or even the best is beyond me.... He arrests his mother's lover , executes him with no trial after walling him up for a month in the dark and makes sure he is naked when he died. He also executes the son of Alexander Seton during the Scottish wars. Oh and the starving people in Calais, including children pleading with him. He was no end of a hyprocrite, he moaned about Mortimer playing King Arthur and giving him the job of SIr Lionel yet he plays the part of Sir Lionel himself years later. Not to mention blaming Mortimer for misuse of funds yet he does much the same: lavish building and the Arthurian court cost vast sums of money while his people suffered while taxation was higher than ever before. He was nothing but a thug.
Fred Barker, Mortimer did not coup Edward 111 and the deposition of his father was with the consent of the royal family. Edward was an underage king , the age of majority was usually 21. Mortimer was simply acting for Edward 111 , not trying to make himself king. He didn't claim the throne for himself
Execution is never justified, Edward 111 claim pretty dubious as his dad was forced to abdicate under duress not by Mortimer but by Henry of Lancaster , William Trussell and others
With all the money that can be spent on historical movies, you'd think somebody could make just one without making a mess of things. But no. That is just not possible.
True, the historical TV series are much better than the films. Think of the remarkable I Claudius, with Derek Jacobi, The Devil's Crown, in the seventies, and Glenda Jackson's amazing portrayal of Elizabeth II, also back in the seventies. There's also Netflix's The Crown, which is beautifully made.
Nope, we also have “The Dark Avenger” 1955, which also features Edward III. He is only in the first act though. The movie focuses on his eldest son and heir Edward the black Prince.

Edward the third had to claim his birth even if it mean't killing lots of people and he lost his daughter as well to become king but he was a great one.
I have not watched the series yet, but in reality he lost Joan because she was traveling to Castile when the Plague hit Bordeaux, she was there and became one of the very first English victims of the infection.
Wtf is this from. I LOVE history as a historian. Natch. But have a special love for history of England from the rearm in 410 to about bosworth. Eddy 3 is among my favorite. I always wanted it on the screen. And I love that actor , in my opinion the only good part of DaVinci demons.
World without end is a series with 8 episodes. It's great, but I'd recommend reading the book before watching the series. They are pretty different, but you still get more background information.
Both Edward iii of England and his son the Black Prince committed countless war crimes in France and brought decades of abject misery to both countries. Ultimately the early 'gains' in the hundred years war ( eg after the battle of Crecy) were for nothing as the French were very successful later in the war. In the end, after several generations of massive suffering triggered by Edward iii starting the hundred years war, it all ended in 1453 with a complete French victory. Henry V 'victory' at Agincourt in 1415 led to nowhere. It is odd that so many English historians cheer on Edward and Henry's wars, with their huge loss of life and a vast waste of taxes and resources.
Longshanks would have been so proud.
His mother was called France’ s She Wolf.
Edward III was a very good King to England 👍👍👍👍👍👏👏
La louve de France, tristement célèbre dans la lignée des Rois maudits
La France en est pas forcément fière
Edward III one of the Greats
Definitely one of the best kings of England
Fun Fact The british People Didn't Call Their King "Your Majesty" At that time They Call their King "Your Grace" Until King Henry VIII
Fun Fact you mean English people.
Actually until Richard II.
until King Henry VIII🤣🤣
It was Richard iii
I'd read/heard that Richard II the overbearing boy king first began demanding to be addressed as "Your Majesty".

he was half french and it was his right to fight for the Crown.
Which resulted in England getting whooped back to their island in the end.
