    This simply is one of the most incredible performance I have ever seen out of an N/A engine, with stock tires no less! I am a Big Block Chevy lover and have been since the 60s, owning several 427 Corvettes. The fact that this Corvette can destroy Dodge Hellcat Redeyes and would certainly be neck and neck with a Demon 170 with special tires makes it even more incredible.

      I raced bbc from 396 to 538 ex pro stock.All engines were fully streetable and pump gas compatible.You need a lot of flow from heads to make 1000 hp N/A.When I reached 1000 hp with 8-71 blower,538 started blowing thru converters and trannies.427 were undervalued and you could get them for 2000$ complete here in Finland.I bought a 467 bbc with blower for 4500$ and it went 9.624/143 in my beloved 1964 Malibu SS weighing 3500 lbs with me in it.

      Neck and Neck with a Demon 170? No. This car is for sure faster already than the Demon. Remember that his times are on those skinny tires. Give him a tire equal to the newest Demon and he wouldn't have to set the computer to take out nearly so much of the timing that he removes at the start of each run in the "FAST" series in an effort to avoid blowing the tires away at the beginning of each run. This car is clearly capable of much faster runs than it' seen so far in the series with the rules requiring a very narrow tire.. His biggest advantage is found in weight. The Demon is just so much heavier. The newest Dodge and it's Super Charged engine is making really good power. More than we see in this Corvette.......but the weight difference is a killer for the newer car. It's an impossible comparison for the new Dodge. It's a street car at the end of the day, even as it is tuned to the max with every factory trick available today to make it as fast a possible. On the flip side of that thought? This Corvette though is pure race car tuned way DOWN in a big way to meet the rules of it's racing class. Where the new Dodge really shines: Both these cars will easily run a low 9 in the 1/4 mile and despite the fact that getting faster is easier in this Corvette than it will be in the Dodge it will always go home in trailer. The Dodge you can flip on the AC, turn up the music and drive it home on the highway and off to work on Monday morning too. That's pretty awesome when you really think about it.

      @@stevejewell9263 You forgot to mention the Vette looks like a naked model with a sheet draped over her and the Dodge looks like the shipping crate the Vette came in.

      @@sidefx996 Yeah, no doubt the other tough comparison for the Modern Challenger. In a two car beauty contest the Dodge faces an insurmountable disadvantage of 'BIGGER" and no small amount of modern design done in a wind tunnel and with crash testing performance in the mix. No doubt which car I rather be in should the accident scenario come up. The modern car is way safer for sure. The advantage here still goes to the C2 Corvette on appearance though because isn't just smaller and far better looking. The C2 is a serious Contender for the title of best looking car ever to come out of Detroit........it's a Super Model from the Victoria Secret Catalog vs Serena Williams of Tennis fame. Some guys might actually prefer the modern car's appearance, same as there are some guys go in for the big muscular woman look but lets face it......they're in the minority by a wide margin vs those of us who see it the other way.

      @@stevejewell9263❤ that is really awesome when you stop and think about it. What makes him think that it would hurt a Mopar guy's feelings anyway? That would be hard to do with the stereo on and the A/C fired up, especially if he was on the track and the air conditioner running😂
      Oh yeah and don't forget that the Mopar is very dependable, & relatively maintenance-free... and the 'Vette will be leaking oil all over the place like Chevrolets do if you're really hitting them hard like he obviously does this one. it's a high maintenance, troublesome trailer freak comparatively.

    A couple years back you said a C2 would be more or less unbeatable in F.A.S.T. As far as I know the 67 and 69 are basically the same frame, suspension, engine, etc from the factory. What do you feel is your biggest advantage of building a C2 vs a C3?

    • @HorsepowerDepot
      @HorsepowerDepot  9 місяців тому +6

      C3 is a better car. The frames are the exact same. C3 is more aerodynamic, and has a bigger cowl hood for more air. The 67 hood kills the engines power. C2 just looks much so better! I might touch on that in the next video.

    As a Mopar guy, Is there any kind of weight restriction for any of the cars? Clearly a Hemi Cuda is not going to be as light as a 67 Vette or any year Camaro and from what I understand none of the 68 Race Hemi Darts, Barracudas or the the Ford Thunderbolt are not allowed to race in the F.A.ST. Series but for some reason all the Yenko cars can race. It would seem that just about any 427 Corvette’s would have a lock on the F.A.S.T. Class because of its light weight and the fact that the engine is so far back in the chassis it has an unbeatable weight transfer compared with any other make or model in the class. That anybody running a big block Vette or early model Camaro has a fairly good chance of winning just about every time they run unless they are going against another early model 427 Corvette. Another question would be is there any chance that the series would go as far East as New England Dragway in NH? It’s not some rinky dink track as it is on the N.H.R.A. Seasonal schedule and is quite safe,I really enjoy watching both classes racing with a completely dealership “stock look” and I’m sure that you’ll have a good turnout.

    These cars really are impressive. Like others I'm a big block Chevy fan. My area 35 years ago was dominated by big block Mopars on the street. Didn't really like this much, so I decided to put a 396 into my 69 step side. It just had some good gears, decent cam, good compression, home ported heads and factory cast iron Holley carb intake, and some wide slicks stuffed up under the step sides, This little truck had more Mopar street kills on it than cancer, Funny thing I didn't spend much money either, that's the best part. It was hugger orange and drew them in like no other,. Several Mopar guys spent lots of money to finally beat me. It was a good time at the age of 20 and only demonstrated that a BBC with the correct combination and not a lot of money can be a deadly combination on the street and the strip. Love these videos thanks for doing them!

      @HorsepowerDepot  9 місяців тому +5

      Traction control isn’t outlawed. But all traction control will do is slow you down. Traction control is used to save a pass. It’s not going to make your car that doesn’t hook, hook better.

    • @driverjamescopeland
      @driverjamescopeland 9 місяців тому

      @HorsepowerDepot - I know it won't help it hook better... but a lot of guys in stock tire/skinny tire classes use it. It doesn't help hook, but it help a TON with boosted cars with mid-track wheel spin. I saw a guy with a turbo '95 Impala SS (rebadged 9C1 Caprice) turn that car into a rocket. It didn't hook any better... but stayed tight to a 9.50, and pulled like freight train after 100ft. Nowadays it's not a big deal... but back then, traction control took his margins down from 6 tenths, to just 3. That's huge in 9 second bracket.

    I was lucky enough to purchase a 435 horse 427, From Harmonic Balancer to the end of the Muncie 4 speed tail shaft and everything inbetween...the complete engine, bell housing clutch, pressure plate etc and Muncie 4 speed with the Corvette Shifter in 1970 that was in a 67 Corvette that had hit a light pole in the median on Interstate 70 in the spring of 1968. The car was totalled and thru a cousin that worked at the salvage yard I got first chance at it and bought it sight unseen over the phone and spent the next day driving to Kansas City to get it. I was not disappointed a bit either. My Grandfather and I took it home and a Week later I had bought my 2nd 68 Camaro but this one was a SS with the big 396 and the M-22 Muncie and 12 bolt Rear Differential. We spent that entire winter holed up in Grandpa's Garage working on the car and when Spring rolled around we had ourselves a Drag Racer! We got the NHRA rule book and went to work in September and the car rolled out of the shop in May of the following year....we changed over and swapped out and built everything in that car to go to our local Dragstrip and be legal off the trailer thanks to a friend of Grandpa's who was a Drag Racer himself and he knew the rules backwards and forwards. I had 2 real stout engines that when we were done with them the only difference was one was a stock bore 396 and the other a stock bore 427, both had the Rectangular Port heads that we spent almost a month solid re-working them (within tbe rules mind you)....they had the same solid lift Cams and Springs and up graded push rods, basically we did 2 engines at the same time so when we ordered parts we got 2 of everything.....we did everything that tbe NHRA allowed us to do so if we got tore down we would be within the rules.....we did some off the wall stuff ....some worked....and some didnt.....we met alot of famous Big Block Chevy people along the journey and each one was as friendly as could be and helped us so very much get up to speed on stuff we had no clues about...I wont bore you with name dropping but we have photos to this day of me as a teenage kid, My Grandfather and a honest whos who of Big Block Chevy Drag Racing in the 70s. Funny thing is....I still have that original 435 horse 427 Engine that got me started all those years ago. Its sitting on a run stand in our shop and though its been through a lot and it got bored 0.30" over the last year we raced it otherwise its just as it was when we stopped running Modified Production Class. With its custom built tunnel ram, twin 780 cfm Custom built holley double pumper drag racing mechanical carbs built by Karsten Blume (K-B) carbs, and you can go out prime the oil and fuel systems and..spin it over a couple of times and then turn on the juice to the Mallory Gold point dual point distributor and it will fire right up before it makes 2 full revolution's and run like a champ yet.
    This is TRUE HIGH PERFORMANCE HISTORY NOW !

    I'd give a dollar and fifty seven cents to see what has been done to the heads that can feed a thousand HP with a single '850'.

    I just can't get over how uneventful each pass shown was. Light goes green, car goes down the track straight as an arrow, collect 9 second time slip. Nicely done.

      I thought the same thing. The launch is so deceptive. Campared to say a Dodge Demon 170. Light turns green, Dodge say, "CHARGE ! !"
      The light turns green for the 'Vette and it says, "Let's go". With the same outcome, minus a couple 1/10's and a few mph's. Very little fanfair, very cool to watch . . . ✌😎

    If any of your competitors don't believe that they too would benefit from the bump steer kit/shims and the safety it provides maybe they shouldn't be racing.

      It’s welded in. 4 holes in the fiberglass that can be patched up.

    Building a C3 SBC now. Ordered a TKX5 speed to play with the Foxbody boys. I put my car on a diet and hoping this little Small block can run with them. BES has built me a few motors over the years. You are getting great numbers for the weight. 🇺🇸🦅🏁

    IF YOU WANT TO SEEK YOUR CURIOSITY. PUT THAT SAME ENGINE IN A CAMARO AND SEE IF IT DOES THE SAME TIME. KEEP THE WEIGHT EXACTLY THE SAME, IF YOU HAVE TO ADD OR TAKE AWAY SOME WEIGHT. YOU'LL BE SURPRISED JUST HOW MUCH FASTER A CAR WILL GO WITH GOOD AERODYNAMICS.
