These seem like such small amounts used in these patches. I don't know what the absorption rate is for patches compared to cream but I use 1/4ml of a testosterone cream with 30MG per ML (so 7.5 MG testosterone per day in a cream). I don't have voice changes or facial hair or any masculinizing effects. I just feel good.
What are your thoughts on this? Dose wise. Like why is the amount in the study so low? Do patches absorb better?
@pattyfluegel7816 Great question! It’s one that I had myself but in relation to estradiol patches. They’re also in WAY lower doses than you might use in a cream.
The answer, as you’ve guessed, is that patches have much higher absorption than creams do. There’s often a “matrix” that releases the hormone onto the skin in a way that’s not possible with cream dosage forms.
@@SimpleHormones So what level in a patch is equal to what level in a cream? I'm wondering if Im taking the equivalent of a 300mcg patch or less?
The cream dose you use seems about right. I used about 7-10 mg daily dose , but now I do injectable twice a week. ( not many doctors feel comfortable prescribing that).
On labs the total testosterone for women should be up to 150, sounds scary but it’s ok as long you don’t have the side effects… also looking for the free % is important too, and SHBG. I do use estradiol and testosterone. It’s irresponsible to think women need only one or the other hormone…
Are the patches available in Canada?

Steve, does taking testosterone increase estrogen at all? I read somewhere that women aromatize estrogen from testosterone.
@GiGI-fd6om Yes. Testosterone is “aromatized” into estradiol in both men and women by an enzyme called aromatase. That’s a completely normal process that’s not a bad thing. Some providers are scared of estradiol and use an “aromatase inhibitor” to block that process. Most of the providers I work with are not afraid of estrogen.
@@SimpleHormones Thank you. So, if a woman has her HRT squared away and wants (needs) to add testosterone, then in theory, will her E2 level climb higher and therefore, she will have to lower her E2 dose? And in theory, can a woman just use progesterone and testosterone and skip the E2 gel?
Maybe I missed it. What were the ages of the women in the studies?
@nancysalcaggio888 Good question. The study says patients ranged from 20 to 70. All were post-menopausal. Women who went through “natural menopause” were 40-70. Younger women all had hysterectomies or “surgical menopause.”
I’ve heard testosterone reduces painful stiff joints and could be the missing link once estrogen is at optimal level.but didn’t see it mentioned, is this true?
@@kathbalme4227 I have read estrogen is also very important for joint health. I feel taking the trifecta (estrodial, progesterone, and testosterone) has helped my joints a lot.
