What I love about Josh's performance of this song is it evokes a completely different emotional response than the original artist Lara Fabian. He is the only performer I have ever heard they can make this grown man cry almost every single bloody time I hear him! He seems with such passion, so much depth, so beautifully that it just does something to me that touches my heart, and brings out emotion that I seldom ever show, and more than that, it brings that emotion pouring out with me, so I have to be careful, I hate crying in front of people, if I have to listen to Josh Groban in public, I usually end up running away because it’s too embarrassing to see a 53-year-old man burst into tears, that’s what happens every time I hear his music. I can’t explain it, but I always feel better afterwards, I’ve seen therapists and psychiatrists, to no avail, but every time I hear him sing, it pulls the emotions out of me from deep within, and it comes the tears like a river, a river that never stops until the music is over. I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing, all I know is that I cannot thank him enough for doing something not even a trained professional could do. All I can say to him is, thank you, I love you, because no one else has been able to do what you’ve done for me.
I was fortunate to be at the taping for his first PBS special so long ago when he and Davis Foster performed this song. Love CB , but the PBS version will always be my favorite.
