Whatever works for you, obviously. But the questionably-dressed mustache dude is kind of saying one thing and blowing smoke out the other end. He's still a tech geek, he's just a lazy tech geek. If you want to strip it back you have a Tele and a Fender Deluxe Reverb and that's about it, along those lines. Or a Jr. and a Marshall or a Ric and a Vox. Endless wonderful, evocative music has come from the time-tested guitar-into-amp configurations.
To all who say this is a terrible rig rundown, I must beg to differ. This man has a great point about the importance of energy and dynamic when it comes to lives shows. I will admit, I wouldn’t say tone isn’t important, but I would argue that you shouldn’t spend hours on something that the audience isn’t even going to give a fuck about at the end of the day. They just want it loud, fast, and energetic (if we’re talking heavy rock). I’ve had killer shows where one of my strings was slightly outta tune, guess who noticed? Not a single fucking soul. Focus on the energy, the presentation!! Calibrate the tone as you go.

Tone is absolutely so important! For someone to pay top dollar to come see your show, you better be putting out professional level guitar tones. FOH sound crew don't always do a great job with the mixes/etc so you can't rely on them to do a "good job". I get why he's doing this but from a fellow a musician, it just ain't it.
Piped in backing tracks, digital amp models and click tracks... Why might bands have moved away from rack gear and artificial embellishments in the first place?
Someone got to tell this to Eric Clapton :) do you guys, also know what doesn´t matter!? Volume. Last concert people where saying to me "Man, your guitar was toooooo loud!" I just said: "Hey, volume doesn't matter!!!!" : :) :) just a opinion . . . everyone has the right to have their own . . .
This is whack, but not surprised. As musicians get older and more jaded they care less and want to do less to do their job. Under oath is one of the sloppiest bands live. And I’ve seen them on shows since 2005.. they weren’t tight then, and they aren’t tight now. Their music is too complicated to just let it fly all over place tonally, pitch wise, and tempo. But hey not my band..

He’s got a point. To non musicians in the crowd, they won’t be able to tell the difference between amp sims or if a certain pedal was or wasn’t used.
He is spot on, the crowd doesnt come for the tone. As long as its decent enough for the vibe of the song you are fine
Nah, people like music to sound good. Maybe not Underoath fans.
@@wildersparks9161 yup. the fact that this guy thinks running around like an idiot is better then tone says a lot. i understand. but how BORING

Appearance is so much more important…
Those shorts are functional too
I’m fully hooked on simulated amps & cabs. They sound great for practically no money.
I’m hooked on real amps and cabs they sound great and ive got the money

We can tell that style and tone isn't his thing.😂
@Roland Special Sauce as a stocky man who loves his dive shorts, I can say it's not for everybody lol.

Don't confuse laziness with convenience.

"We went digital. We even were able to kick our other guitar player out and just run backing tracks to save money."
Without knowing the situation, I wondered if this had something to do with it. I mean, it’s probably not as profitable to tour the big band anymore.

This is what live music is all about. A couple of hundreds for a pedal? Getta f*ck of here, his guitar is cheaper!
Does anybody just plug a guitar into a damn amp and go anymore? I’m not a modeler I dig that he just mods shyt to use but axe effect?
