Had the Cowboys lost this game, the 49ers would have clinched homefield advantage in the playoffs with their win over the Vikings the following night and the Eagles would have had the opportunity to clinch the NFC East with a win in Chicago the following week. That kick by Boniol saved their season and possibly the legacy of the 90s Cowboys.
Actually it was that Kevin Williams catch at 26:42 that gave Boniol a shorter field. It would have been 4th down at the 38 with a 55 yard field goal which was out of his range. The Cowboys offense was crap the last month, but luckily things would change the next week with the 49ers losing against the Falcons and the Cowboys beating the Cardinals to have home field.
I got up at 3 am, drove to the airport in Cleveland, flew to Dallas and went to this game. I then went back to the airport, flew to Cleveland, drove home and crashed about 24 hours after I got up. I went to work on Monday. I could never do that now, but that was a fun day.
YUP!!! It is comical to hear fellow Cowboys fans scream and yell about Coach Jason and about being predictable. Truth be told the last half of the Cowboys season the Cowboys were so beat up and the play calls everyone knew what was coming and that is ten times worse for this offense......a timing offense overly predictable? The ONLY reason we succeeded was because 1. The Cowboys talent was just too great and Kevin Williams stepped up here and the Xms Cards game. I was at the game in Philly and Troy had Michael WIDE WIDE open for a bomb with for a TD but the line gave him know time and what people did not know, some still do not know but Troy was playing with a on and off again partially separated non- throwing arm, and that injury to his calf suffered in Washington was for many players a season ender and one of his ligaments in a knee was torn, he had no strength to step into the throw..Bobby Taylor did not shut down ANYONE. Also this season proved that Nate Newton HAD TO GO...be it his off the field bullshit and he was starting to be dominated at times.IN the middle of the season he should have been replaced by Ron Stone. The same Stone who the GIants gave a contract to they knew the Cowboys could not match. Donaldson was gone by midseason and not signing STEP really showed.Fat ass Gurode was moved to center. In 1996 and the next 10 years our guards should have been LA and Ron Stone (with Step) but Jerry fucked that all up.
@@erichagan8992 YES but Andre was a good player, never was he great. GREAT Cowboys centers: Manders, Fitzgerald, Tom Rafferty had to play out of position and was AMAZING from 1981-1989 and he was drafted in 1976...OMG Rafferty was our best C/G in history. then Step was great until he left and our center position was average at best until Step came back and our next great center was Travis. PLEASE that O line from middle 90's to 2009 was good never were they great. Andre was a good player...nothing more, nothing less,
After surviving this game against the Giants, I remember saying to someone at work, " now watch us somehow be back in spit shining sync and wind up winning it all" lol that's exactly what happened. Sure It helped that SF was upset at home by GB so we wound up not seeing them again like we expected. But I didn't care at the point.
I wrote this as the top comment, but at 26:42 that diving catch by Kevin Williams saves the season LITERALLY. Here's why. If the Giants win that game, the Cowboys would have lost 3 straight. They would NOT have won home field advantage throughout the playoffs even if the 49ers lost in Atlanta. Their momentum would have been killed and even if they beat the Cardinals they would have had to go to Candlestick in the NFC championship. They would have had to beat the Packers in the divisional round. The 49ers would have taken business at home against the Eagles. Either way, here's what happened because of that Kevin Williams catch. Boniol kicks the field to win the game. The 49ers lose in Atlanta the next Sunday to have 5 losses to end the season. The Cowboys fly to Arizona and hear about the news of the 49ers losing. They destroyed the Cardinals on Monday night on Christmas. The Cowboys win home field advantage throughout the playoffs, easily dispatch the Eagles, beat the Packers in the NFC Championship. Then finally, beat the Steelers to win their 5th and as of right now in 2023 their final Super Bowl their 3rd and 4 years.
Cowboys avoided losing three straight games in the division, this would have been disastrous as far as NFC playoff seeding and momentum going into the playoffs.
Great seeing these old games. Two things come to mind, how good was Rodney Hampton and it's scary how much Daniel Jones looks, plays and reminds me of Dave Brown!
Bro my thoughts exactly! Rodney Hampton was an absolute beast and my favorite Giant growing up. The good old days when you fed the rock 20 to 30 plus times a game to your RB wearing down the D. On the nose with Dave Brown and Daniel Jones.
If we had lost this one ( after the embarrassing setbacks of the prior 2 weeks) then who knows? You see a good team sometimes sleepwalking like ours in this game( sorry but these Giants were SORRY)& need some spark at the end to get by in order to right the ship. And somehow it happened here. Pulled out this one, blew out the Cardinals in the reg season finale to win the top seed & then blew out the Eagles in the divisional round , overpowered GB in the NFC Title gm. and held off the Steelers in the SB.
That was a surprise. Did a search and in his first season in 1994 he ended that season with a 6 game winning streak (4-0 in December). Then this season he won the first December game vs the Redskins.
That one in particular was awful. If I’m a Giants fan, I’m downright pissed about that call. At least our ‘boys won a game they did nothing to deserve.
While I was watching this clip, on their possession where they had the ball with about 5 minutes remaining, I was like ‘plenty of time for either team to win. They just need to run some clock.’ However, I had forgotten the INT, and that’s why I was so worried/upset at that time, especially by the standards of a middle school student lol.
As a Cowboys fan 😂 how could ya not LOVE Dave Brown ...but on a whole 'nother level RODNEY HAMPTON is my ALL-TIME Favorite G-MAN RB!!! Tiki was a Diva(but he was THE Cowboys Killer!) and Ron Johnson UN-SUNG. Not to mention Rob Carpenter ...wasn't really a fan of Joe ...
@@kendrickjones3115 Dave Brown was a bum QB in the NFL and he was supposed to replace Phil Simms but Giants fans and NYC media hated him and that is why I love his era and the Giants player you're was Joe Morris from 1982-1989 and Tiki Barber was a good player in the NFL and he wasn't a team player
Watching this game almost makes it difficult to believe The Cowboys would eventually become Bowl Champions later that very season.
Troy was often pissed by Coach Switzer's laid back methods.

You do know Gurode did not start playing until 2002

KWill was so underrated. The guy made many great plays for Dallas.

I think DJ has surpassed Brown by light years now..
Whatta Epic battle between these two NFC East Rivals. Big D didn't have a great game but came up big when they needed to!
The refs helped

So Dave Brown was undefeated in December games until this one? Wow.

I'm a Cowboys fan but some of these officiating calls were BS, such as the PI when the defender merely got in front of Irvin to hamper his route.
That one in particular was awful. If I’m a Giants fan, I’m downright pissed about that call. At least our ‘boys won a game they did nothing to deserve.

WORST officiated game in NFL history! Giants sucked and Dallas was struggling at the time and the refs were on the take by the league!
Wow talk about getting screwed over and over
Hey Cñassic Sposrts can you please post the Texas Longhorns vs Texas A&M Aggies 12-2-1995 Please?
