I am 46, and I came across your channel, because I want to learn by self studying. I have already done the first step, and now I am on number 2, learning Anatomy. Thank you for the encouragement.
This is an encouraging video because I'm actually 62 and after a long career in nursing I am studying for my CPC certification. I sure do hope that my age does not factor into getting hired as a coder because I am not ready to retire! Thank you Bleu for sharing your wisdom.
You go Sheery!!!
That is FANTASTIC, Sherry! You can do it! I'm rooting for you!!
I’m 60, former unit secretary for an ER and just starting to learn medical coding. I’m glad I’m not alone. ❤
Hi I was so excited to find your channel. I'm 61 and have decadesof secretarial experience. Some medical for a psychiatrist and a psychologist. Been a stay at home mom for years. Now she's graduated and I want to start my next career.
I am really happy that I found this channel
Thank you for this, it give me much more confidence. I'm 56 and just received my CPC-A last December. I've applied to 50+ companies with a long list of rejections. My interview skills are very lacking, but after 3 interviews with Zoom and Teams I'm getting the hang of it.
I'm so happy I found you. I am 58 and going through major life changes and I'm researching going back to school for medical coding; you have been so helpful.
Im 40 years old, going to a lot too... my mom is sick at home, and I have to take care of her and can't work. Thanks to my guy, he is working a lot to provide us... but I still want to do something and help out. We are short will money, so I plan to buy the books little by little, study, and get my certificate. I can't wait. When you get at certain age, and you want to start something new, it is EXTRA scary.
I appreciate this video because I'm 51 and have been considering all this and many other things. I really want to learn this. It looks all so interesting and fun. I do love reading and have all of my adult life. Especially, trying to figure out cases or like mystery stuff so I'm not sure but I see that there's many different pathways to go if one area doesn't work out. That's a huge plus. At this point in my life I think learning something new would be a great challenge for me and keep my brain sharp. I guess my biggest struggle is my eyesight. It's not the best as it is. I'm hoping that with technology and ways to adjust things that it will work out fine.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm 55, embarking on major life changes this year and this fits the bill. Cheers!
I am so grateful I found this channel
This channel encourages me so much
I am 60 and a new medical coder
To read the other comments of people my age and what they are doing gives me hope.
I am watching this channel at least once a day.
Thank you Miss Bleu
Oh, this is a good video for me! I'm 52 and a dental hygienist. Looking to transition out of the field as it has taken a toll on my neck and back. I'm just over the fast physical pace, huffing and puffing all day long kind of work. I am planning to start a college course next week. Thank you for this video.
Hi Bleu. Thank you for your video. Very encouraging! I am 60. Have 15 years as an MA and Clinical Supervisor are a Family Practice (90-2005), and 8 years as a Home Caregiver with an agency. Am exploring becoming a coder as I have a previous medical background/training and want to make consistent income that caregiving does not offer.
I just turned 63.... I'm going for it!!🎉😊
That's awesome!! 💙 You can do it!!
I’ve been in AR for over 25 years. I finally took the CPC course online and passed the exam July 2021. I continued with AR until a few months ago when the doctors in the practice I worked for merged with a new company. I was put into the coding group. I AM STRUGGLING!!! I turned 50 this year and I’ve NEVER had any issue with work!! I’ve never been anything other than excellent at my job!! I have so much anxiety. It’s Sunday afternoon and the anxiety is already building!! My accuracy has been pretty good!! My very first week I was at 74% and since week 2 I’ve been in the 90% and above. I literally started crying on a video call with my manager because I feel like I’m not doing well. She told me I was too hard on myself. What can I do to be more comfortable???? I don’t know how much longer I can feel so anxious every day. My training team is FABULOUS!!! I feel at times that I ask questions I should know the answer to. My volume needs to increase as well. The specialty is interventional radiology. Dialysis circuit interventions, UFE, PAD etc. any suggestions are so greatly appreciated!!!
I will do an episode about this tomorrow, Monday 14 Nov airing at 530pm PST/ 730pm CST/ 830pm EST. Thank you
I'm turning 47 and I'm really inspired by your advice Bleu. I'm definitely going for it.
Congratulations to you Beth! I am so happy to see this video. Thank you Bleu.
😊 Thanks for the lovely message! You deserve so much more. You do so much for us and I really appreciate it.
You're the best! Thank YOU again :D
Yaay, I'm 52 and was just thinking of doing coding, you popped up.❤
I found your rates. I will be in touch. I have to say i love your videos.
Looking for a new career, I was worried about my age. im 53 and i havent taken any courses yet. just researching. I'm glad I fond your page.
I see alot of people comment about being about my age but they have been in the medical field in some form. I am over 50 and thinking of getting into medical coding with no prior experience in the medical field. I guess it's been in the back of my mind as to whether or not to pursue this at my age with no experience. So this video hits on my situation. Thanks 😊
There are also a lot who have no medical experience.
@@MedicalCodingwithBleu I'm in my 60's with a background in hospital outpatient registration, insurance verification, etc. My question is , where the AAPC courses and the anatomy and physiology and medical terminology courses are concerned, what are the benefits of doing the instructor-led classes versus independent study? Can you get enough from independent study to pass the exam and really be prepared for your first medical coding job? Thanks for this video! I really needed that reassurance.
I am a retired respiratory therapist for 32 years. Am 66 years old. I am finishing a course in medical billing and coding online. I am unsure if I should go ahead and take the certification. Is it unreasonable that I would be able to be hired?
I’m in Florida
Hey there, was wondering if you can claim all these books you have to use for coding on your taxes?
I’m 60 and just started coding when I was 58. I love it! I tell people who ask me about when I am planning to retire and I tell them if I keep enjoying this job, I don’t want to retire. I was a CT tech for 30 years and this is a great way to still enjoy physiology/disease without the holidays/call/hurting yourself.
That's awesome! Thank you for sharing your experience!!
Awesome
Wow that is great I taken medical billing and coding back in 2007 earn associate degree but took test at wrong time because my mother pass
So now I’m taking medical billing and coding again so I can prepare pass cpc exam I’m 52
Thank You for sharing, that gives me hope.
I am a surgical/medical technologist and want to enter med coding. I'm thinking it will be an easy transition and having 20 years of experience in the medical field should help
I will be 56 this year 2024 and doing an online course now 🎉
I'm also 55 yrs old and I have no experience in Healthcare but I just wanted to study to be medical coder. I passed my cpc exam in March. Now taking Ccs course.
I am inerested to know how this is working for you.
Age is just a number. It’s astounding how we limit ourselves needlessly and how society views people over a certain age. I learned Zumba from an 80+ y/o instructor who’s well into her 90’s now and she’s still teaching.
Bleu I decided on the CCA with AHIMA because if your positive attitude and encouragement. This will be my second career (I’m 54) and I am so excited to use my current knowledge towards a new field. Thank you 😊
Amen Erica!!!!
I’m 46 tomorrow and about to dive into medical coding! Great video.
Turned 46 on 1/4 and I'm going for it too!
I'll chime in here too as a 54 yo woman! I enjoy your motivational videos and the face that you read our comments, take them to heart and speak to our concerns so often. I signed up with AAPC after a long stint as a stay at home mom raising my kiddos. I'm not too old. Age sneaks up on you but I don't think most ppl feel their age as they age! Over the years, I have helped families with elderly loved ones in nursing homes and I learned a lot medically, but I also learned not to waste my life and take chances! No one ever has it all figured out and everyone has fears but you have to TRY and TRY AGAIN and pretty soon, you will surprise yourself and be so satisfied and happy you went for it! The satisfaction that you accomplished a goal is worth any of the set backs in the end! Good luck to all my peers out there who are pushing forward!
Thank you for sharing your experience and kind words!
❤
😊❤
Your laugh is so adorable! It brings a smile to my face. You have made excellent videos and they are truly helpful! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us.
Thank you! 💙
I am 50 and wanting to go back to school for Billing & Coding. I was an RN for 15 years ....I've not worked in Healthcare now for at least 12 but I want something I can physically do for a long time to come.
I'm so grateful for this, I sit for my CPC in a few weeks and I'm 52
It's New Years Day, and I am starting the medical coding program at our tech school in 23 days. I just turned 60 and am terrified, but this video came to me exactly when I needed it. Thank you. ♡
You're welcome! 💙 Happy New Year! Best wishes on your journey ✨️
Update?
Im 49 in school & will graduate a few months after my 50th bday. ❤
I'm 53 and just got my A removed and is now a full CPC. So far ❤ it!
I love your personality... Enthusiastic, now im 54 just started my career as medical ,which it took me a year to consider this career b4 it pursue now....now i realized this is my passion
I just turned 68, so I can't tell you how much I appreciate this video! I am getting ready to take my certification test. I just now found you when I searched for an explanation of modifiers 26 and TC and you were crystal clear! wish I'd found you two years ago lol
Thank you for this video. I am 53 and currently studying for my CPC cert through AAPC. I find this very interesting and fun to learn. I hope I will find a good job at the end of my learning journey.❤
You can do it!
I'm 62 and work for the Department of Defense. I'm about ready to leave Uncle Sam and am thinking of doing this.
Well appreciates your
Motivational
Words which i really need this time😊...very much grateful
My new

I’m 52 and a retired nurse and nutritionist and now I’m a new CPC-A
Thanks for sharing...I can honestly can say that I have staying power. I was 56 years old when I decided 4 year ago to studying for my CPC certification. Taking a lot of things in consideration surrounding my life, medical coding is the best option for me. I am noticing that the AAPC does have a abundance of tools and information to help me pass my exam!💙
Thank you for sharing, Regina.
However, to be clear, AHIMA or AAPC is open to everyone regardless of background. There is not one that is more for people who have some knowledge of the field already, they are both for everyone. I had no background in medical when I got with AHIMA and people every day who have no experience sign up for AHIMA or AAPC all the time. I just want to make that known. I am glad that you are utilizing the tools that AAPC has on their website. AHIMA has plenty as well.
Thank you for the motivation. I'm 54 and am very much looking forward to getting into the field. I'm getting closer!
You got this!
I just turned 44. I have 20 years experience working in several specialty offices, Health information departments, ED front desk & Trauma in Hospitals in the NYC, Pittsburgh, And Hudson Valley, NY areas. I took a Medical billing & coding class as part of the Medical office assistant program i took in the early 2000s and aced the class, But never pursued anything in the coding field. Medical coding stayed on my mind since. And i'm going to say it, The medical office field has changed so much during the pandemic, It's not for me anymore. I brought my books and i'm now ready to learn, But had some reservations starting in my 40s. Thank you for this video.
I don't know why you're getting cold feet now, you have the books. Give yourself a chance to learn it. You can do it. 👏
Thank You for this video. I worked over ten years as a school registrar and and created school schedule. I have been on the fence about career pivot to medical coding since I am in my late 40s. I think it was a sign to do it as the reason why this video popped up while I was searching for info on medical coding career. I know it will be hard work learning medical terminology/human anatomy, but I am excited to learn a different career path.
Bleu, thank you for this video about aging people who want to work. The workforce is geared toward younger workers and us older people are left out in the cold cause the workforce doesn't want skilled workers they want young, fresh minds that they can mold. I'm in my 70's and want to work so I'm considering taking a chance on trying Medical Billing / Coding. I recently took an Intro Course on UDEMY, missed 5 questions out of 14. Was pretty hard on myself for missing that many. I'm not finished with taking the course. Once, I stop pouting I'll go back and continue.
Thank you Bleu for this video. Planning on taking my CCA in January, I will be 61 years old. Wish me luck…
I wish you the best of luck! You've got this.
You guys planning for betterment at 61......am the only one here feels worthless att 22 🥺
@@glamorouspotato9666 don’t feel that way, you are young with the world in your hands. Get going and pass your exam which ever one. If I can do it so can you!!!
@@bethzaidavasquez6794 Thank you 😀
Keep us posted!@@notarypublic6915
I am 55, and just passed my CPC exam in December (yup, the last written exam, lol). Looking for work-ugh. That is the tough part.
gosh! Thank you and I truly want this and I am 51 with no experience thank you Blue!!
Hi Bleu - I am retired and so bored, staying at home and not working. I worked at a hospital for years, as an insurance liaison for the hospital. I loved the coding department. I am watching all the videos on coding and want to become a coder. I am 72. A YOUNG 72 I might add, and not ready to throw in the towel. I'm pretty adept on the computer and have a wonderful support system here at home. I am not too old. I am going to do this. I may be the oldest coding student but I think I will love it. Thank you for your wonderful video! Hugs, Jeanie
Ms. Jeanie, you are an inspiration and also in good company, I have a couple of other people in their 70s pursuing coding too 😁.
@@MedicalCodingwithBleu oh my goodness, that makes me feel so much better! I plan on working for at least 10 more years. I thought I would love retirement, and yes, I do, but now I'm ready for something new! Thank you for your support!
You look very young!
I am glad to come across this I'm turning 55 next month May this year and I am just starting this program.I was wondering about getting hired at this age so thank you
I am 58 and a former medical transcriptionist of 18 years. I was laid off 4 years ago from a medical billing/data entry job and have not been able to find a steady job since due to my age. I am currently doing in-home care. I have thought about coding for a long time, but fear with my age and I live in a rural area, I will have a difficult time. I want to work remotely and don't want to drive to the nearest large city which is at least 30 minutes one way. But I hear stories of people not being able to get hired.
There are many reasons people don't get hired. The bad part about listening to other people's stories is that is can be discouraging. Everyone's journey is different and sometimes people who can't get hired are not being honest about why. Sometimes they can't pass a pre-assessment, or a background check or they don't have a good resume so they never get a call.
Stay encouraged, their journey is not yours.
@@MedicalCodingwithBleu Thanks! Back in the 90s, I was discouraged from learning to become a medical transcriptionist. Well, I did it and got over 18 years out of it. So you are so right, it's my journey, not someone else's.
Bleu
Thanks for making videos! I love your content & I appreciate your brutal honesty about the industry. I am taking my CPC exam for the 3rd time in a few weeks & your videos give me great insight. I appreciate you! ❤
Forgot to mention I recently took Medical Terminology Course online and did very well.
thank you so much for this encouragement, I am doing a18 month program in medical coding at 54,
Hi!!! Just learned medical coding and I really wanted to transition from customer service to medical coder.. how hard would that be with out anyyyy... medical knowledge and all i have is my passion to learn. I hope to hear from you. SALAMAT! Thank you!!
I’m glad I looked up “coding after 60”You’re right Bleu I’ve have 8 years in the field , started at 55 after 14 yrs in same practice with no moving up ladder and I love it! I also got my aha at 6 yrs in ,but since loosing my job and getting so many rejections,I was wondering if I should throw in the towel..so thanks for mentioning that about your friend still coding- it gives me hope that I can still compete with the younger coders coming in !😉 keep them coming always a pleasure ❤
Great content! I'm an Educator, but I was wanted to do MBC for a second career. Thanks for sharing
Hi Bleu. I have my certification CPC-A . I am 61 yrs and have not written a resume in years. This is a completely different field. I watched your resume writing video which helped a lot. However, on one of the sites I joined you were mentioned that you wrote a resume and you were resonable. I was hoping to have you help me in that area, review, tweek or write my non expereince resume. I hope you see this. Thank you.
Thank you i just turned 50 and getting ready to start my training for a Medical Coder and excited & you made me feel better and gave great information.
Hi I like all the info you gave us tx so much! I want to be train but do I need to go to the school? What will be easier I’m 53 I am a Dental Assistant but I had a hip replacement and my job is getting hard to do. I’m thinking to study this! Thank you
How can I start medical as a on line corse ?
Omg I'm 51 starting this program however I do have medical experience but sometimes wished I would've included coding while I had a chance but anyhow I'm studying now. So excited on my journey 😊
preparing for my CPC and all your encouragement has helped me sooo much!! thanks Bleu ☺
Thank you, I am 57 and I have enrolled in an online School for Medical Billing and Coding but I have one Concern is fast keyboarding skills a must?
No.
Yay!!!! I was a bit worried about exactly this thing. I am taking anatomy/beginning biology and medical terminology at my local college in the fall and am taking a Gale course on medical terminology as a pre-cursor, so I don't start school as a complete newbie. I am intimidated by the idea of coding but figured if I get my medical billing certificate, I will be more confident. So happy to have found you!
Is there a practice version of the encoder software?
I am 60 years young I been a CNA for 20 years now I am encourage to take medical billing and coding class boy o boy am I excited. thank you so much for this video blessing to you and all your Subscriber.
I'm right there!! Trying to get this done before I turn 50 in just two years, but I'm struggling to find a way to pay for the training...!! Losing my mind over here in the process too!
Get the books and study on your own!

I am 54 and this gave me a lot of encouragement! Thank you!
DO YOU OFFER CLASS?
I'm almost 55. I was an LPN in the 1990s, and have more education than I need with no experience outside of helping my husband run a business. I am admittedly terrified that I'm going to get into this and no one will hire me due to age.
Hi Bleu, I am currently an analyst specializing in fraud, which is okay, but project based. I graduated with an English degree in Professional and Technical writing but couldn’t seem to get a break due to my age…I’m hoping to break into medical coding but don’t want to encounter the same difficulties with breaking in without experience. I love investigating, research, am a voracious reader, and learn new material swiftly… my former lead called me Inspector Gadget. Lol. At 55, what is the path to become a medical coder without medical experience?
People a lot older than you have started and built successful careers. It's all about your tenacity and not giving up. I'll do a show about this.
Please go through my videos. I've answered your very question before.
Thank you for this inspiring message 🙏💖
Thank you for the motivation, I got my Medical Billing/Coding certificate from a community college back in 2019 but never got certified, now
at 56 I am in the process of getting my CPC.
You can do it!!
So quick question- I am a medical professional with a degree. I'm a medical & surgical technologist in the field of Ophthalmology with 20 yrs clinical/surgical experienceI. I have a great deal of knowledge of medical Dx codes, surgical procedure codes and application for nearly 20 yrs. I am needing to get into a non-patient facing career; working remotely and utilize my very extensive education and medical background- and medical coding seems to be a very good fit for me. I would expect not to be treated as a "no experience" individual after passing my CPC, due to my degree and extensive medical/surgical background. Any assessment of this or advice? I am 52
I been coding 10 years without certification now it’s a demand after Covid for me, was on unemployment then went back to medical assistance CPC I failed exam with score 50% I’m trying again I’m emotionally when studying not sure why TRYING to pass I’m 55 help what’s best way to study
Hi, I am a phlebotomist and studying medical billing and coding at a non accredited school which allows me to study at home on my own. I am 59 years old and confident I will pass all my test. Being that it’s a non accredited school I will not be able to take the certification exams. So now I am looking into Penn Foster. I am studying from Stratford Training institute right now. Monthly payments are affordable for me. Any advice will help.
I'll do an episode on this topic for Monday 10 April at 730pm CST. Thank you
Is there any particular school you recommend? Does it matter when being hired?
No and no.
💙💙💙💙💙
I have been a nurse for so many years and been thinking to switch to medical coding. I just don’t know where to start. Do you teach this ?
Do you still do the medical billing side or just coding? If you only do the coding side why did you decide on coding vs billing?
I just need help my teacher hasn't even met me other than a text but I'm not understanding it and I'm not getting the help I need to get through it
You may not get any help till after the holidays. My recommendation is to move on to another subject for now and come back to the subject you don't understand later.
You can always go on LinkedIn and ask if anyone will mentor you because you have questions. Or hire a tutor. There are people that do medical coding tutoring all over LinkedIn. LinkedIn is free of you don't have an account already.
Hi Bleu great video! I'm 49 years old and and had gotten my certificate in medical coding back in 2006. It was ICD-9 system then. But I wasn't able to take the internship or the exam. What would be my options right now? Could I study online and take the exam? Would really like to go back into this field.
Study again and yes you can.
do you have to be a nurse to get into coding?
Hello Bleu. I really appreciate this video. I worked as a secretary in the legal field for 18 years and after I worked from home as an independent contractor transcribing legal documents and customer service for retail stores for 2 years also from home. I have not worked full-time for 14 years and the last 3 years of these 14 years, I've worked seasonal part-time for retail. I want to get into medical billing/coding. My heavy weighted resume in legal field may be too far back and doesn't apply to medical field. My resume needs updating. Would like to work somewhere entry level in a medical office to get that medical exposure, it does not have to be billing/coding, because I know that you stated that we do not want to state that we're seeking to be trained. Need schooling, don't know terminology. Don't know best place to get schooling. How long schooling would take. How much cost? I'm doing research.

I am 65, just laid off after 18 years as a computer programmer for a health related company. I have overall 30 years of programming experience and want to do sonething different. Not programming. But that still utilizes problem solving and judgment and analysis and is health related.
I am a constant learner and reader and am tired of programming. This job sounds intriguing and just kind of sounds like me.
I qualify for Social Security so do not need full time employment or benefits but not ready to not work at all. We have some savings so I could afford one of the less expensive courses.
But unsure if i should invest in a study program if i will not be able to get a job. I have a feeling once i was trained I might really enjoy this job .
Let me ask you, did you think automatically when you were studying programming that you weren't going to get a job? No? Then why put that on this field? It's just a question.
People who ask this typically doubt themselves right away. This doubt robs future potential. Do you want that?
What if I didn't work for more than 10 years. And if I did it was a babysitting job
You can still apply. You were still working as a caregiver and that counts!
Blue can you please tell me the best medical terminology and the best medical anatomy flash cards to use? there are so many out there and i don't want to spend tons of money buying flashcards only to find out that i didn't get the right ones...
Hi Eileen, it's right in the description box, all the links and titles to the books I recommend. Thanks, Bleu
I am considering a medical billing program and not sure if they will offer the training for coding, do you think it would be wise to still only get the medical billing training?
No, I recommend a medical billing and coding program, but not only a medical billing program. In the job listings they often say they want experience for billers or they will train and you don't have to be certified to be a biller.
@@MedicalCodingwithBleu ok thank you, appreciate the help
So my question is can you learn this as a side thing and work or do you have to give it full attention and for how long? I’m 54 have my own business and need something else. Is it doable to learn with all of life happening also
It needs full attention. Medical coding is not a "side thing."
Starting a new coder career at 55! Looking forward to it
Hello ! I’m over the age of 50 and pastor full time. Looking for a secondary career and I apologize of this question has already been asked.
In the event one works remotely, are the hours already determined or how does that work ?
Thanks!
I'm over here stressing and someone did it that's older than me.🥲 I love these stores.
