Watching Emil paint is an absolute joy. There's something about how he colours his minis that just looks incredible! So lucky I found this channel!!!! Like his eye for colour is a blessing to our eyes.
You know the Bob Ross moment when he starts adding to a picture you would consider perfect and in your head you're screaming "stop it, don't go too far, you'll ruin it!" And he keeps adding layer upon layer and first you're like "see? I told you" and then there's a tipping point and everything turns out amazing? I had this several times with the armored legs of the vampire in this video. The final piece looks stunning but my impression is more that of glass not steel. Anyway thanks for another great video.
Dude, I think this is a part of the creative process in general! I mostly make terrain, and there is always a moment when you think “I fucked up greatly”. But if you just pull through and keep going it will turn out awesome.
@@jagelsdorf1385 you're absolutely right every mini I paint looks terrible for the bigger part of the process but somehow they turn out to become, let's say, decent. But the feeling is always amplified when I watch someone else do it^^
SQUIDMAR IS AWESOME!! I am totally inspired by your work, You really make me want to improve my own painting. I have picked up so many tips from you..... I am going to start my own channel all because of you. Thanks man, you're great!!
Åter, Emil, tack så mycket. The variety of your lessons and examples keeps me watching, and keeps me excited about painting minis. In this episode, the Titan Forge vampire minis are just *the bomb* (as young people might say) - alas, without a 3D printer, their Patreon site isn't going to get me too far. Emil, thanks again!
Freaking great video, this is what I always want to see! It's nice knowing how to do a certain effect, but it's even better when you grasp how and why the effect is used. Being inside an artists head like this as they go through it all is wonderful. Thanks
Thanks for sharing Emil. Have really enjoyed rediscovering this hobby I enjoyed so much as a kid since watching your videos over the past couple of months. Keep up the good work! Thank you from Australia
I used to paint warhammer when I was 12.. I don't why,May be it's corona boredom but at 34 I was thinking about starting again. This channel has convinced me to get back into it! Thankyou..Great content mate.
Thanks so much for this. Being able to look at your own work and see how to improve it is a valuable skill, and I really appreciate your insight and the thought process behind it.
Squidmar, you were a huge inspiration for me to start painting. I’m still a beginner, but I really enjoy it. I finally feel productive, and I really thank you for that.
Fantastic paintjob! I really enjoyed the walkthrough of your thought process and how you took some drastic decision on the metal highlights at the end. It’s always pleasure to watch you videos. Thanks from Belgium.
On you next video like this, could you show a picture of each 'step' and how it improved the mini? Like when you add the highlights a side by side of before and after highlights? Or even a clip at the end of the video showing a side by side of all the steps? 😁 Love you videos! They inspired me to start painting minis
well hell.. I love what you do.. but there is NO way that I could ever do it.. I just slap some paint on and call it a day. I'm just happy that there is some colors on the mini. But you... you make a masterpiece! True art form.
Planning stage. Look at figure and set aside for a month or so. Come back and look at figure - decide on best undercoat to speed things up. Begin undercoating - run out half way through - go buy undercoat and undercoat. Leave to dry then set aside for a month or so. Begin painting process - big brush and block in trousers and coat. Be board and set aside for a month or so. And so on and so forth. That's the Me Here technique.
Don't be. It is a hobby. If you are not in the top 10% of talent that is totally fine. Even if you are far from that. As long as it brings you joy, that's fine. Try at least 1 new thing with every new project: if you fail, you can learn what went wrong. If you succeed, well... you took the first step to become better. ;) When I feel like things are going wrong, I take out my first minis I painted 5 months ago and comare them with how I paint now, realizing that I might not be a squidmar, but I already make past me feel depressed about today me (knowing that future me should be much better even). That's some inception level painting wisdom for free! You have a good day! Hope you feel better about what you create. Always remember: While you create something yourself, 10 other people sit bored on the couch, complaining that there is nothing new on Netflix!
Hey squid I can't help but notice you don't have your desk in your gear list. I'm starting to get into miniature painting and would like nothing more than to have a desk as awesome as yours.
My challenge is knowing which colors to choose or blend to get the different tones for shading and highlighting. Should I use a color wheel or howmdo you know what colors will be good without looking artificial?
Great video! I really enjoyed the part where you mentioned taking a break. So important to walk away for a few hours or a day to come back with fresh eyes. You're going to force me to get a 3d printer now...
Hi...I've only the Anycubic I3 Mega (as You as well) but I imagine that all of your miniatures are realized with the resin printer. Any succesful realization with Anycubic? Despite my numerous try, I can't even have a decent miniature... With the best quality ( 0.1 ) and the best settings I've found on web for my printer/filament the outcome requires too much sanding and it's not easy at all as you can imagine... Clap for your channel and your awesom work.... Greetings from Italy
I appreciate all of your content so thank you! I am new to painting minis and am running into a plastic vs metal question. Can you use acrylic paint on metal minis as well or do metal minis require a different paint?
The skin and the metal look amazing, but I don't like the cloak. The interesting thing is that most of the cloaks that I paint look like this cloak....and I feel I need to improve painting cloaks. Somehow it feels that it has 2 colours instead of one colour with highlights. Sorry for the critique Emil, I hope it is constructive. Keep on painting!
Sadly, I don’t have a 3D printer so I can’t print any of these models myself but if I did then my Backlog would evolve and grow legs, and then runaway.😬😬😬👍👍👍👌👌👌
The beautiful thing about printing your own models is that you don't have to print the minis until you're ready to paint them, so the majority of the backlog is just a folder of STL files. You don't have to worry about the mini going out of print, or the company changing the design of the figure/unit, so there's less incentive to print the model "Just in case".
@@SquidmarMiniatures in the video, the Hesus miniature is mirrored. He holds the cup in his right hand (on the left as you look at it). I'm not sure I would agree with that... Scaling up can, frequently, make the process more complicated, since you have less room for error. Don't believe me? Try picking up a few busts to work on...
