My dad taught me this years ago Used to build houses under construction so that must be where he learned it but if you add soap to your water regular dish soap it will help to smooth out that caulcking even more... It works with most silicone based putties and drywall muds... With the drywall mud sometimes you mix the soap right into it to help it may smooth and don't be afraid to use a tablespoon or 2 for a project like the when you're working on it seems like a lot but it works.you could probably skid the extra smoothing you did on you project... since you pattern was so dense the very first smoothing you did with out water may have been sufficient than you wouldn't need to worry about it drying out silicone based caulks will dry out now matter what it is a chemical reaction so the faster you work with the less you have to dig...lol. you can get all kinds of different caulking from the home store too. Just a few things my dad taught me that i thought might be helpful

I wasn't sure where you were going with the copper planter at first. But I love it! Really looks like beaten copper. I'm going to have to copy that one!

To save a good big of time on the flower pot you could use spray paint with the hammered finish. Other than that you are still so freaking brilliant as that still had such a unique look!
