I just finished a lithium install on my Club Car Precedent. While researching these the retailers were trying to sell me 100 ah batteries. I finally found a retailer that listened to me regarding how I use the cart. It was stock and the most it ever gets used is 18 holes on a relatively flat course. He recommended a 35 ah battery and I reluctantly agreed knowing that I could double up to 70 so if need be. I am absolutely amazed at the result. The cart does 18 holes easily with plenty to spare. I am sure it could do another 9 with no problem. Performance is much better due to the 250lb weight saving. The total cost was not too much more than buying new lead acid batteries.

@@gregjones1867 I am from Ontario and found a supplier in Winnipeg. They sold me the kit with 35 ah battery, charger, 48 to 12 transformer and gauge for about 2k cdn. A similar setup in the States should come in at about 1.5k. Easy swap. Followed some youtube vids with no issues at all. Most of my time was spent cleaning the whole cart underneath.

Relion Insights are also drop in replacements similar to Allied.
FYI most of these batteries are rated for 100- 150a continuous. They can only handle about 300amps for 8 seconds. So if you do alot of offroad or upgrade to a large controller, you will push these batteries to their limit. Which will overheat and shorten the life of batteries Always check specs.
Not true the BMS will shut the batteries down if there is an overcurrent draw
@@donphilippbar411 the controller will limit the current based on settings. Also a bms if not programmable to desired battery settings will have an over current draw limit that could be 500 or 600 amps before cutting out. Because it is protecting from a short.
@@donphilippbar411 A bms rating is based on constant amps and can pull more but at expense of over heating the bms.

In my research I Dakota said something about a hazard of drawing too many amps. Overheating. Recommended a starting battery over deep cycle. I have an Alltrax controller 400A max, with an aftermarket motor. I thought the LI was a more efficient current flow, thus would be fine. IF legitimate, how does Eco deal with this? A post below discusses this as well. The BMS can be set? It's not the starts, I want to drive in sand, so the amp draw will be high. 2) If I need power, but not range, might a 30Ah be fine? What does Eco have?
What is your alltrax controller model number? These batteries all have the bms set from factory. You can look at the specs sheets to see how they are set. You want to drive in sand so the motor will be working hard which will demand more power from batteries. 30 a/h will die quickly. You will want to be 100 a/h or more.
I had the same question. My cart is lifted and is mainly off road. 600 Amp controller with D and D motor. Will the BMS protect the battery.

What do you mean Allied has the only drop in battery? Does that mean you don't have to do any sort of converting? I thought they were multiple lithium drop in batteries where you just plug and play.
Do you have a install video of the evolution battery ?
With EV's you get an option to charge to "less than 100%" which greatly increases the battery life. Do any golf cart lithium batteries allow for something like this? If I charge my car to 100% multiple times in a short time span - it gets mad at me.
There is no way to set the charge limit. Most of them are programmed to go to 100% charge and shut off automatically.
@@CartPerformance The iron phosphate technology allows you to charge 100% without hurting the battery. All new EV's will be shipped with this technology
Great info. We had a local shop switch out to some lithium kit but was informed that we should not allow the batteries to get below 50%. This was a little contradictory to how I understand lithium batteries to work. I thought is was better to allow almost full discharge of lithium? Does this sound correct?
Thank you. Sorry did not get back to your comment right away. I was trying to find the correct answer for you. Recharge your batteries before they are completely dead. Not letting it die completely will extend the battery lifespan.
If you are preparing to store your batteries for a period of time, make sure you do so at half charge. Unlike other types of batteries that need to be recharged throughout their storage time, lithium batteries do better at 40%-50% DOD (depth of discharge). I know this is not a direct answer. We typically set the battery gauge to show the battery is dead when its not still leaving 20-30 percent battery life in the battery. But gauge will show the battery is dead.
My guess on this is that the motor on the cart would not survive a low voltage situation.
What kind of range are you getting out of these small replacement packs with such low amp hours?
Range varies on weight, terrain, motor controller set up. On a stock cart you should see 25-30 miles on average.

what about dakota lithium? have you guys looked at those?
Yes great question. I have looked into dakota lithium batteries. I have not personally used one yet for really only one main reason. Price for value. My opinion is there are lithium battery companies molded around golf carts that have far more technology and design for a complete golf cart kits. Nothing against dakota i just feel they don't have the complete package. For a 48 volt 96 amp hr dakota battery with charger only price is $2699.00 with 11 year warranty is the hooker to get you to buy. The fine print on that warranty states "11 year manufacturer defect warranty on all batteries. If we made a mistake building your battery we will repair or replace it." So the big 11 year warranty is only a mistake on their end and do not cover parts that could just break. I think they have a good product. However i do not think they have the best value for the dollar for golf carts at least.
Eco battery 48 volt 105 amp hour for the complete bundle is priced at 2,880.00 This kit includes battery, battery charger, battery charge indicator, mounting brackets and 48-12 volt reducer along with a 8 year warranty that covers more then just manufacture defect.

Yes we did bypass the obc and changed the solenoid to a heavy duty solenoid. We also upgraded wires.

Prices depend on amp hr. needed/ wanted. A 72 a/h set up starts at 2k. This would include everything needed to swap over.

Thank you. Allied has 72 volt batteries they are 18ah each. Eco battery is working on theirs currently set to release in march hopefully. We have one on pre order. Extreme team has one as well. We have not tried it. We did put together a 72 volt cart with the allied batteries and it performed very well.
@@CartPerformance how’s the BMS board on those Allieds for a 72v. Can’t seem to want to throw down for that PR. Definitely waiting for Eco battery or Bigbattery to come out with the real deal 72v lithium. Once I get the 72v lithium I’m installing my 600am navitas controller. Keep the videos coming.
@@SCSRACINGTEAM The bms on the allied was great. We tried testing with 3 batteries that is only 54 a/h it did run the cart. However not or very long and we would get a cut out. So Once we actually did the full install with 6 batteries. Giving us 108a/h the cart was a monster. Hands down the funnest cart we have built. We have another build coming with 72volt i plan on videoing the whole build. Video might take a while to come out as we will be waiting on parts for weeks...

How do you rate the Dakota Lithium battery? They show an 11 year warranty. I have a club DS and am ready to change out my lead acid batteries. Can’t decide which brand is best.
I typed out this big thing before on Dakota vs the rest and i can't find it lol. So here is my thoughts on Dakota. The specs of the battery are some of the weakest on the market 200amp max and 100 amp continuous. For even a stock golf cart this is barley cutting it. Second the pricing for about 3k you get a battery and a charger... Leaving you with extra cost of other things you will need ( mounting brackets, 48v-12v reducer, battery gauge, Etc.) So in my opinion they are not the best brand for golf cart lithium batteries. We talk a lot about Eco Battery on the channel. At this current time i feel Eco Battery has the best bang for your buck when it comes to lithium conversion. Also Eco battery as a company has been great to work with if we have issues they solve them fast. I have used some other brands as you can see in this video, but have moved away from them as i felt the company support was not good. You asked a good question about warranties. As lithium batteries become more popular and these business's grow the warranties have changed a little bit. Dakota does have a 11 year manufacturer defect warranty when advertising they tend to leave that important words of "manufacturer defect" out. So they will fix or replace the battery if they made a mistake in a 11 year period. However they don't guarantee the battery will even last 11 years they have a 6 year guarantee with a list of warranty exclusion terms. I will link they warranty page below.
Eco battery has a 8 year warranty. Giving 3 year straight up replacement or fixing of the battery after that the next 5 years are prorated cost for replacement. They too have list of warranty exclusion terms. I will also link their warranty terms below as well. Going back to specs eco has high amp ratings that work well with stock carts or modified. I have personally used these batteries on many cat builds so far minor to no issues with their batteries. We have some more videos on Eco on the channel. eco battery 48v 72 AH how many hours charging ? and if full charge battery can drive how many hours?
4 hour recharge time. Drive time 20-30 miles per charge. Now there are a lot of variables with that distance range depending on terrain and cart. .
I purchased 3 12v 100ah Dakota Lithium batteries for my stock 36v ezgo. After installing I found out that if I push the throttle to full the bmx shuts the batteries down. Is there some way to fix this? Please help, I can't find anything anywhere about this.
Have you contacted Dakota? They have golf cart batteries and also normal 12v batteries. Lithium batteries are ran in parallel. Not in series like regular lead acid. This could be your problem.
@@CartPerformance I should have said from a standing start if I floor the accelerator the surge of amps causes the BMS to shut the batteries down. I contacted Dakota but all they said was to get different batteries that did not have an amp limitation. That is an extremely expensive fix. And for your information, these 3 batteries can be wired in series to make 36 volts. They sell these batteries in a set just for the purpose of upgrading a 36v golf cart. My problem seems to be the motor is pulling more amps than the batteries can deliver so the BMS shuts the batteries down. A simple plug in of the charger brings them back online. I am using the cart for golf now but I have to take off slowly and then can go as fast as I want. Is there some device that can limit surges to a certain amperage? Thanks for your quick response.
@@ronkyle3599 Well that response is not a very helpful on dakotas part. They should be more helpful in this situation as the batteries are not cheap. From what i read on their website these batteries are only rated for 200amps max. Your controller is more then that. You most likely have a 300 amp controller and that's why it drops out. Dakota is misleading this set up they should not be advertising this for golf carts.

You can get into a 72 amp hr set up for around 2k Installation will depend on your area where you live. We are located in south east Michigan. These will not make your cart faster you may see 1-2 mph difference. What you will see if a performance up grade. Lithium batteries do not die down like lead acid. It feels like a fully charged set of lead acid batteries all the time. Also a huge weight reduction on the cart helps overall performance as well.

@@facelaw674 we would highly recommend eco battery over Roy pow. The installation of the battery is not that hard if you a decently handy. I can walk you through it and help you with the getting the battery. We are a eco battery dealer.

What kind of Amp hour is equivalent to say a 48v 6 lead acid battery set up?
There are a lot of variables when this question is asked. Terrain of where the cart is driven, is the cart lifted/non lifted, does it have stock or aftermarket motor, upgraded controller. These are the main questions we ask when putting someone in a lithium set up to best fit their needs.
With that said 50-70 amp hr will be equivalent to stock lead acid set up.
@@CartPerformance why not just answer the question for a standard, stock cart? Then explain some other set ups might need more AH.
@@sundance37 why not ask your question with saying standard/stock cart. I can tell you 60amp hr is good. But for all I know you live in the mountains with a lifted cart and ac motor…. Like I said there are a lot of variables. It’s better to give more information the less.

Good catch sure does look like it. In the warmer months we have all the doors open in the shop. This also could be something blowing with the cross breeze we get tends to throw stuff around the shop all the time.
