"I've yet to catch the ghost type" This was not only a good bar, but an accurate one for most of the anime, as ash hasn't caught a ghost type until Pokemon Journeys. Haunter doesn’t count, Ash never threw a pokeball at Haunter, he just used it in a battle and left it.
i mean according to ash thunder is not an electric type move and is in fact super effective against ground so maybe to him he has caught 50 ghost types.
I liked the line too but come one, who hasn't though about Pokemon as dog fighting at some point or another. Most of the Pokemon world makes no sense if you think about it. Or is horrible.

What's so ridiculous about it? Both were people who studied nature. Ash documented the evolution and data of Pokemon, whilst Darwin also studied evolution and came up with the theory of natural selection. They both went out in the field and spent long periods observing nature.
I'm still trying to figure out why a lot of people didn't catch this the first time. This idea circulated through the ERB fandom long since it started. The premis was simple: Pokemon evolve, so let's pair up the most recognized character in the franchise with the father of evolution. I'm starting to think that this confusion just reflects the generational change.

I'll say this: Ash is kind of at an advantage in this battle because his character has already been the butt of so many jokes over the years. Most of the best disses you could use against him seem tired and stale now. "Couldn't turn 11", "Oak banged your mom", "slave fights" , "Pokeballs are balls", -- though "Mighty Morphin Michael Vick might be the best individual line in the battle. Comparatively, a lot of the insults heaved at Darwin by the common man are very surface level criticisms of his theories, his racism, and his effect on the scientific community. So all in all, Ash won this contest, but not because Darwin didn't try hard enough.

This is probably the most balanced and on-edge ERB there is. There are so many good punches from each side and the choreography makes both look like hardened rivals.
Yeah, I gave it to Darwin, but it wasn't as lopsided as some of them. Usually if it's super even, it's because neither was really that great. A lot of times I think that once you pick your winner, it kind of throws off the balance a bit in terms of perception. I think hannibal lecter vs. Jack the ripper was a good one that was pretty even, along with Cleopatra vs. Marilyn Monroe, and Bonny/Clyde vs. Romeo/Juliet, but that's because Juliet killed it for her team, while Bonnie and Clyde were contributing equally.

Considering the ridiculous premise, this is way better than it deserves to be.
What's so ridiculous about it? Both were people who studied nature. Ash documented the evolution and data of Pokemon, whilst Darwin also studied evolution and came up with the theory of natural selection. They both went out in the field and spent long periods observing nature.

I'll say this: Ash is kind of at an advantage in this battle because his character has already been the butt of so many jokes over the years. Most of the best disses you could use against him seem tired and stale now. "Couldn't turn 11", "Oak banged your mom", "slave fights" , "Pokeballs are balls", -- though "Mighty Morphin Michael Vick might be the best individual line in the battle. Comparatively, a lot of the insults heaved at Darwin by the common man are very surface level criticisms of his theories, his racism, and his effect on the scientific community. So all in all, Ash won this contest, but not because Darwin didn't try hard enough.

Yeah, I gave it to Darwin, but it wasn't as lopsided as some of them. Usually if it's super even, it's because neither was really that great. A lot of times I think that once you pick your winner, it kind of throws off the balance a bit in terms of perception.
I think hannibal lecter vs. Jack the ripper was a good one that was pretty even, along with Cleopatra vs. Marilyn Monroe, and Bonny/Clyde vs. Romeo/Juliet, but that's because Juliet killed it for her team, while Bonnie and Clyde were contributing equally.
