Portugal has great schools.
We have great schools here and we don't dubb the movies and TV series, this makes a huge difference in our ability to learn English.
They learn multiple languages in school but the schools are actually good.
How can I save this video😢. I really love the way he speak ❤
They've been pronouncing it the English way but with the accent over the e, the pronunciation is different. If you study spanish, French you will know that.
The acute accent in Portuguese isn’t just a stress marker like it is in French and Spanish, it’s an indicator of a stressed low/open vowel. That’s why the same mispronunciation occurs in Spain despite the fact that their language has the letter é as well.
The words for grandmother and grandfather in Portuguese are avó and avô, so mispronouncing a vowel in some cases can actually change the meaning of the entire word.
Doesn’t seem as if u study any of those languages, otherwise you’d know that an accute accent serves different purpose for each language
Wait, I thought Spanish mainly used accents to put the emphasis on the syllabe? While french é/è o/ô are used to indicate low/open pronunciation (like avô and avó) but zero emphasis because it doesn't exist in french (and e with no accent is pronounced three different ways so let's forget about it).
So I'm not sure I understood the comparison between French and Spanish stress markers, it looks like French is working the same way than Portuguese, no?

There is Felix (pronounced as 'filiks') and then there is Félix (pronounced as 'fair-liks'). They are not the same name. One has a diacritic, the other one doesn't have, so they are pronounced differently. So Felix remains 'filiks', while Félix is 'fair-liks'.

We don't pronounce any Portuguese names correctly really.
Fernandes -> Fernansh
Dias -> Diash
Neves -> Nevsh
English is slightly lazy in that often we just say names as they're written to us. Probably too late now to go back and start referring to Bruno as "Fernansh".
So the s sounds sh?
@@memsa6559 but a soft sh like a breeze
English speakers have this terrible habit of mispronouncing Portuguese names for their the Spanish equivalent e.g., Fernandez, Gomez etc. Even first names like João, José are mispronounced, mainly due to ignorance.

Portuguese players (and coaches) speaks infinitely better English than Spanish. With 230m native speakers it's hard to argue that it's a such a small and isolated language compared to Spanish.
I lived in both countries and the reason is because in Portugal there is a lot of english/american movies and shows and its always with subtitles so you grow up catching most of the words from there , now in spain its the opposite most of the english shows they put the spanish voice over without subtitles
