    there is more sympathy for Savage Oppress than Maul for a good reason. Savage was turned into a villain, and a monstrous weapon, but wasn't one to start with. when we first meet him he is a genuinely sympathetic person, and had compassion and nobility. Maul is never seen to have such positive and morally good qualities, we only ever know him as the villain.

      Maul was far more manipulated than Savage. Maul was taken in as an infant and secluded and tortured for years. Sidious was his only link to the outside world. Savage grew up with a family and was his own person. He chose to become his brother's apprentice and carry out villainous acts.

      wow that will be really painful to see but that's an amazing perspective. I will still prefer the darksaber though because it's like a message that Satine getting killed by the darksaber - which is representative of Mandalore - shows that Satine's pacifist rule will never win in the time of war as the Sith sees everyone as a victim to their cause. It's a metaphor of her losing her people by her own rule which is very tragic.

    Seeing Maul's emotions towards his brother grow to the point, that it's obvious to me that he cared for his brother deeply, makes me sympathize with Maul whole heartedly.
    The animation gives just enough hints to suggest Savage's death hits him hard.
    Maul takes that breath and then exhales as he tries to keep himself together and the sadness and I also think guilt and regret, give way to anger when Sidious speaks up, because that's all Maul had left.
    And he saw Sidious as his father.
    Even though Maul did such horrible things in this episode, I could see why he did them.
    And Maul is probably one of the most heart-wrenching characters in the Star Wars Universe.

    • @slushg3326
      @slushg3326 3 роки тому +4

      Maul’s reaction to the death of Savage also serves as a nice counterpoint to Obi-Wan’s reaction over Satine’s death. While Obi-Wan in that moment is able to let go of his attachment while still mourning the loss, Maul shows the opposite reaction he becomes impulsive and rash, intent on revenge, which makes it even easier for Sidious to overpower him.
      Most importantly however, I really always enjoyed how this episode show two different sides to grieving and it’s effects on individuals.

    • @OttoWatt9000
      @OttoWatt9000 Рік тому

      Lol just no, you’re COMPLETELY wrong here and you’ve just displayed yourself to be massively emotionally weak here completely!
      Maul most definitely didn’t see Sidious as his “fAtHer”, lol just no, get out of here with that nonsense here, AT ALL in the slightest because he was planning on killing Sidious by building up an army to fight against him, that was the WHOLE POINT of teaming up with DeathWatch and the allying himself with the Crime Syndicate, to build an army AGAINST Sidious entirely. Maul never was planning to join Sidious AT ALL after coming back from the grave, he was planning on overthrowing Sidious entirely. If he even came CLOSE to caring about Sidious, he would have immediately went back to his side but he clearly didn’t, he was building up his army to fight AGAINST Sidious and overthrow and kill him all the while being afraid of sidious as he was still hiding in the shadows at the same time! Sidious was most definitely NOT the “aLl tHaT mAuL hAd lEfT” AT ALL, lol just no. Maul was just angry that his brother was killed and Sidious was mocking down to him completely. Something that Maul HATED Sidious for as Maul didn’t want ANYTHING to do with Sidious at that point, that was obvious as he was clearly trying to overthrow him after his rebirth as he only had plans for himself and his brother Savage
      Maul cared about his brother of course but it mainly through dominance rather than brotherly affection as he couldn’t care about him too much.
      Obviously Savage’s death hit him hard but as hard as you’ve fooled yourself into thinking AT ALL here.
      Maul did all the horrible things in this episode, just like EVERY other episode as he’s a sith, that’s what sith ALL do in every single step towards their goal ALL the time! THAT’S the reasons for why you can understand why Maul did waht he did, because he’s a psychopathic mass murderer whose just wants power and revenge for themselves, like ALL Sith do. So that’s why you can understand and “see” why he did what he did AS a sith acts like they always do, as power-hungry mass murdering psychopaths ACT and BEHAVE as which Maul represents Sith Philosophy.
      Maul is ARGUABLY one of the “most heart wrenching characters in the Star Wars universe” but that either goes to Anakin or a character like 99 easily.
      Stop projecting your overly sappy emotions onto Maul as Maul is WAY more hardcore and brutally ruthless that you’re failing to see right now from your overly sappy feelings here. Just STOP with your nonsense here completely! You’re just weak and projecting here completely!

    • @Brisingrize
      @Brisingrize Рік тому

      @@OttoWatt9000 Lots here to unpack isn’t there, firstly I consider your viewpoints on me, rude, no need to get personal, no need to call someone weak for associating with a character. Secondly, the whole point of Star Wars is the bond between ‘father’s and their sons’ and how damaging they can be. it starts with the son of the force (metaphorically) being corrupted by a man who was like a father to him, because his master (Obi-Wan) was more of a brother and unable to be what Anakin needed. It ends with his son (Luke), giving Anakin hope and turning him back to the light.
      Thirdly, Maul in the Rise of Maul novel (which should have a warning for the level of child abuse depicted), hints very strongly that Sith appentices see their masters as their family, before the rule of the two, there was no need to overthrow ones master, and it appears from previous Sith, it wasn’t quite so abusive as Sidious, yes the Sith still had questionable methods, but have you seen the modern Jedi. Let’s take kids too young to have a personality and a sense of self and brainwash them to our doctorate, then they can’t say no to any of the questionable and hypocritical things we do, brillaint!
      Sidious is the closest thing Maul did have to family, and he’s following The Rule Of Two, that his master drummed into him, Savage is his apprentice, and his brother. And I believe that is the first time that he had anything close to a familial bond. And especially one that isn’t toxic. If you look at victims of child abuse, they struggle to recognise healthy relationships.
      And you might want to go back and read that comment, I am talking about his emotions, he just lost his brother. He’s never been allowed to grieve, to feel things, because much like The Jedi, love is frowned upon. And that’s the dictomy, the only thing that Maul understands, in terms of emotion is rage.
      You mention that Maul wasn’t that close to his brother, yet, the softness in his voice when Savage lost his arm says otherwise. We don’t know what their relationship was fully like, because no one took the time to explore it, but since he said in Rebels “As brothers,” with his voice near breaking (Brilliant on Sam’s part), I firmly believe he cared deeply for his brother, maybe he didn’t know it was love, but he did love him.
      You also mention that I refer to Maul as heart wrenching, and he is, and you are right, there are many sad and pitiful characters in Star Wars, many who I myself see me in. But Maul especially as a survivor of child abuse, is one that captures my heart. I was rather annoyed how they just let him die, he was a compelling character who should have been in the rebellion. He had the know how, he hated Sidious more than anyone, and he was looking for ‘hope’.
      It would have been nice to see Maul win against Sidious, instead he dies a broken man, who I firmly believe went to Tatooine to die, I don’t think he knew what else to do. He had nothing else, he couldn’t beat Sidious on his own, and he couldn’t get revenge, why not get taken out by the man who took everything from you? Or you know kill him.

    • @Brisingrize
      @Brisingrize Рік тому

      @@slushg3326 He also has never been taught how to process his grief, which is even worse, he turns to his rage, because it’s the only emotion he knows. And that makes it even worse.

      This is still the best lightsaber fight
      Maul vs. Ahsoka recieved a lot of previous hype as "the best fight of the franchise" "a really big fight" "we bring Ray Park", but in the end it was less than 45 seconds of the fight with motion capture, with 3 cuts inside the fight to change to another scenes, which kills the tension of the fight, and the second part is basically the standard TCW fight, or worst, since both could barely move for that bad choice of scenario.

    One of the other reasons that Satine and her government cannot survive is that if they were still around, the Rebellion against the Emperor would never have to run from one base to another. They could organize openly and gain recruits right in Mandalore's capital and she would just shrug her shoulders when Tarkin demanded their heads. Mandalore would be like Switzerland and shelter dissidents and refugees from all over the galaxy. Even the Jedi.
    That would be quite the irony: the safest place for a Jedi to be after the rise of the Empire would be among the Mandalorians.
    ...If Satine were alive.

    And this is how you make Star Wars. You really feel that Dave understands the characters. Having actors that have a similar understanding of the characters like Sam Witwer only adds to it. It's an example of how the movies should be. The new movies don't understand their characters and how they actually fit in the universe. They should have called Dave Filoni for the movies.

      @mitchellhayward6492 7 років тому +15

      No way. If Savage survived, it completely undermines just how unstoppable Sidious is supposed to be. He's not even fighting them, he's playing with them like toys. He demonstrates it the whole time by laughing, flipping around Savage when he doesn't even need to, at one point just switching off his lightsabers and dancing around Savage's swings.
      Plus, even if being stabbed by two lightsabers wasn't enough to kill him, he still fell unconscious. Which means he couldn't have used the force to stay alive the way Maul did when he was cut in half. Not to mention he wasn't even that strong in the force.
      Sometimes killing off two-dimensional characters is just the best way to advance other characters, like Sidious and Maul, into stronger three-dimensional characters. Sidious has shown that a Jedi killer with a lot of raw power and strength can't even beat him, and Maul hates Sidious for killing Savage and wants revenge.
      Literally every dark-side user Savage has beaten him anyway as well. Ventress and Dooku have kicked his ass multiple times, as has Dooku. When beat Pre Vizsla, but that's only because he threw the fight for public support. Even Maul kicked his ass at one point, and now Sidious is the one to kill him.

Maybe he could have force chocked maul for a few seconds before remembering what being a jedi means and stopping.

      It might have been cool, but it would be very out of character. LIke Filoni says, Obi-Wan is a true jedi. Obi-Wan clearly showed emotions when Satine died, but he did not let them control him, which is what Maul wanted to happen.

    obi-wan i would say he became a true jedi the moment she died in his arms thats when he got the clarity of mind. prior to it i think he was just like anakin but he was in a better posistion to avoid his temptation as his interest didn't live on the same planet as him

      Yeah I never really liked Satine, but I was sad when she died. Also watch a video called "old wounds" (on UA-cam) it really encapsulates Maul and Obi Wan's story.
