Dude thank you for spotlighting my town! I wish we leaned into it a bit more but we're super thankful people stop by and ride. These trails are SKETCHY and so much fun. The view up top is killer; views of Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon, the Vegas strip. So awesome.
Bootleg is no joke! Lived in Vegas for 5 years and rode those same trails once a week or so. Always bring the big bike, DH casing tires, etc. And for those watching, it's even more gnarly than it looks in the vid in person, lol!
I took a break on my ride to watch your ride this morning & it made my heart race even more! Those loose, steep chutes are so hard to scrub speed on. It was nice to see your improved skills pay off when you nailed that second lap. You made that almost look easy. You’re going to love South Mountain- that’s where I first started riding a mountain bike in Spring of ‘89 - we would climb out of The Pointe resort’s parking lot, up Mormon to National, then back down some of my favorite singletrack of all time. On full moon evenings, we’d have our girlfriends drop us off at top of mountain by the towers and we would ride National all the way down in the days before night lights! Such good times! Thanks for allowing me to “ride along” with you this morning. Great video.
That big circle thing on top of the hill is a VOR (VHF Omnidirectional Range) witch is used for aircraft navigation. There’s also some other radio towers etc that I have no idea about lol
The high tech sombrero at the top is a radio navigational beacon for aircraft. Some of my fav trails... I was able to mail my bike to myself and ride these in 2019 while on an extended work trip. Glad you were able to film and share them 🤙
Thank you for showing us something new! There’s thousands of great trails out there and we really don’t need another Whistler or White Line video. I’m not a huge fan of POV, but I love seeing new places to add to my bucket list. This video is why I’m here.
When you said “ I think if I go straight here I think this may be Armageddon”. I thought of the scene in Jurassic park when the game keeper says “ be quite. They’re entering the Tyrannosaurus paddock!! Glad you turned around.
Rode here about 10 years ago. It is gnarly! You are absolutely right - you do not want to go down anywhere here - i call it cheese grater rock. Touch and and bleed. It made everything much more difficult trying to loosen up a bit but still have to be careful.
Hey Alex! South mountain is a blast and I think it’s right up your alley. If you have a few days to ride in the Phoenix area I would also highly highly recommend HAWES. It’s an absolutely fantastic trail network and it has a little bit of everything. It’s maybe 35 minutes or so east of south mountain and I couldn’t recommend it enough. Love the videos man!!!
My last two injuries were from the wind blowing the bike out from under me on jumps. You were cracking me up on the loose stuff. You were saying out loud what I'm always thinking on the sketch. And then laughing out loud when you live. Lol. Be safe Bro!
Riding in the Mojave is riding on hard mode. Ridgecrest CA is just like that. Sandy, loose over hard pack, and jagged volcanic rock all mixed together. Whenever I go to an area with high traction soil I feel like I am a super hero.
He was here in St G last year if you haven’t see the videos you should check them out. He was with BKXC. He did Barrels, Boy Scout, Gooseberry, and I want to say Grafton and some others.
ohh jesus, I know the title said it was gnarly but I didn't realize it would be that gnarly. looks like you had a blast though, glad to see your videos again.
👋Hi, man! You repeat that "it's so windy" but I don't hear any wind there, u have such a good protection for your GoPro and excelent microfone, dude👏 i love it, love that downhill. Keep up your head, and down your front wheel😂🚴♂️🙏👏👋
Love this on point Sunday video uploads. STS is becoming a routine for my Sunday morning training sessions or if it’s early is during my coffee. Much love from Colorado.
Thanks for that ending on this vid. I have been seriously procrastinating about booking to do a CyTech 2 (cycle technician) assessment & wheel building course - I don't work in cycling, just a personal thing to see if I can get it, self achievement for this big bday year... Thanks to your different end rather than 'get stoked', I am now booked to get trained & assessed! 🤟🙏🙏🙏 Won't lie, I'm already nervous! 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
I mention that a little later in the vid that I wouldn't recommend someone that hasn't ridden there before do what I'm doing alone, but since I had ridden these trails before and new what I was getting into I felt confident and comfortable out there alone
Ah! I saw ya at your van from across the water basin when I was riding with my kid, if I realized it was you, we would have stopped by and said hi 🤦♂️☝️... My 8yo would have been stoked to get a high five. Maybe next time
Wish u had a UK based T-shirt etc. printing tie-in... I'm sure ur US ones ship here, but 2 past experiences with other UA-camrs merch from US has put me off for life... Go global!
As the sun rises and warms up the air it causes the wind and the wind will continue to get worse until the temperatures level out and then start back up as the sun goes down.
I was riding Bootleg this morning. Cold and super windy. Going back tomorrow because it's not going to be windy...hopefully. I semi-jokingly describe Bootleg as nothing but giant boulders shaped like Chinese throwing stars. Crashing is NOT, an option.
Someone should make a mod for Fallout New Vegas that adds his bike and a skeleton next to one of these trails in the game lol. I'm glad you survived today though! That looked like a fun ride
The other thing that is gnarly is the Mojave Rattlers around bootleg. You definitely want to watch where you take a break or put your foot down to get a minute.
People need to get over the e bike thing, I was able to bring a friend who never rides out, throw him on my e mountain bike and we spent 5 hours cruising around riding trails. Something he never would have been able to do. Not to mention having the power to get up steep climbs is actually a lot safer than risking falling back down.
unfortunate that you got to g string in that state it was in. really unmaintained and not fun to go fast on. its been raked since then probably a week after it looks like you were there so those turns are a little less hectic without the gravel.
Dude thank you for spotlighting my town! I wish we leaned into it a bit more but we're super thankful people stop by and ride. These trails are SKETCHY and so much fun. The view up top is killer; views of Lake Mead, Red Rock Canyon, the Vegas strip. So awesome.

Love your perspective and enthusiasm! Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
Dude, I remember watching you a while back and now seeing the progression you have made on the bike is absolutely awesome. Super stoked for you 🤘
Right? Remember he used to crash every other ride? I love the progression. I wish I could progress like he has.
Love the videos @sampler

Thanks for allowing me to “ride along” with you this morning. Great video.
I know you’re on a schedule but Hawes and Pirate Trails near Phoenix are both pretty rad locations and are totally different than South Mountain.
This!!!!
You do realize this was filmed almost two months ago....? Teasing ya lol, but those are great networks!
Oh, of course lol! Doh!! 😂😂
Well, planting the seed anyways I suppose.
Second Hawes…sunset ridge. Although he’s long gone by now lol
That big circle thing on top of the hill is a VOR (VHF Omnidirectional Range) witch is used for aircraft navigation. There’s also some other radio towers etc that I have no idea about lol

Man....there's a lot of jank there. Serious riding....thx for bringing us along!!!!
Thank you for showing us something new! There’s thousands of great trails out there and we really don’t need another Whistler or White Line video. I’m not a huge fan of POV, but I love seeing new places to add to my bucket list. This video is why I’m here.
Bootleg is no joke! Even the blue and green trails are super rocky!
Thanks for showcasing more Vegas MTB Magic!
👍Thumbs up for pedaling up that big climb rather than the Ebike option.
You should try an oval chainring!!
Garbaruk is so awesome
I may say that oval chainring really helps in climbing for example. Different feelings.

Im assuming that winter is the best time to ride Vegas. I need to head down there. Oregon has had such horrible weather lately
Rode here about 10 years ago. It is gnarly! You are absolutely right - you do not want to go down anywhere here - i call it cheese grater rock. Touch and and bleed. It made everything much more difficult trying to loosen up a bit but still have to be careful.
Great to see back out ... stoked ;-)

Yikes! I was scared even with the go-pro effect. Jaggedy rocks can get in my head!
Great riding! My palms are sweaty watching this. Edge-of-the-seat stuff 😲
My last two injuries were from the wind blowing the bike out from under me on jumps. You were cracking me up on the loose stuff. You were saying out loud what I'm always thinking on the sketch. And then laughing out loud when you live. Lol. Be safe Bro!
Let's go Alex! awesome last few ride videos
I've always been interested in Bootleg Canyon. Thanks for the tour and nice riding on that 2nd run. Cheers.
On the weekends there are shuttles at Bootleg Canyon for the more DH centric rider til it gets too hot. Google it!
That was cool! Looks jagged and loose. but totally worth putting it on the list b/c looks like a good chill spot too.
Looks like Alex learned about the Vegas winds today! Lived there for 15 Years - it is a real thing. Nice ride as always Sampler!
Man I was getting blown straight off the mountain with my jacket being the sail lol
Dang, just missed you! My son and I were there same time as you yesterday! Didn't stay long due to the cold and wind. Awesome vid as always!
I ATTEMPTED to ride Ginger while there. Most technical trail I’ve ever hiked lol. Bottom was fun, but top was the most insane trail I’ve ever been on.
Welcome to the Valley of a Thousand Knives
I live in vegas and have ridden Bootleg many times and it still scares the crap out of me sometimes 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Riding in the Mojave is riding on hard mode. Ridgecrest CA is just like that. Sandy, loose over hard pack, and jagged volcanic rock all mixed together. Whenever I go to an area with high traction soil I feel like I am a super hero.
Dude looks happy 👍🏻
That was Rowdy AF, good thing you got the skills to pay the bills!!
The last time I went there, there was no parking it was so busy. Cold winter days are probably the only time worth going now.
Bootleg is super fun! Cool to see ya out there! Are you coming out to St. George anytime soon?
He was here in St G last year if you haven’t see the videos you should check them out. He was with BKXC. He did Barrels, Boy Scout, Gooseberry, and I want to say Grafton and some others.
Yea, I'm making some life changes so I can head down there , Utah, and Arizona for the winter. Is there boondocking around there?
Coming to Vegas next week with the bike. What are the must hit one or two trails in that area? Love the videos!!
ohh jesus, I know the title said it was gnarly but I didn't realize it would be that gnarly.
looks like you had a blast though, glad to see your videos again.
killed it! that DH looks serious man
wow those trails look like so much fun. i would be terrified of punctures though.
Might as well come to So. Cal and ride Laguna Beach/ Aliso Woods area before going east????
👋Hi, man!
You repeat that "it's so windy" but I don't hear any wind there, u have such a good protection for your GoPro and excelent microfone, dude👏 i love it, love that downhill. Keep up your head, and down your front wheel😂🚴♂️🙏👏👋
That’s my neck of the woods. It is obnoxiously technical at the top, but the bottom is fast and gnarly.
Love this on point Sunday video uploads. STS is becoming a routine for my Sunday morning training sessions or if it’s early is during my coffee.
Much love from Colorado.
That’s where I learned to ride. Needless to say, the rocks aren’t kind to a new bike 😂. The wind easily blow you off course when jumping.
Fantastic vid Alex🤙🏻
Thanks for that ending on this vid. Won't lie, I'm already nervous! 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Awesome epik trail great to see when you driver down hill 👍🤘
I raced there last weekend, knarly
When are you headed back to Alafia or Santos?
Awesome video. Both intense and relaxing at the same time, definitely didn't feel 24 minutes long.
12:51
If that's not a great quote - I don't know what is.
reminds me of sketch times out alone. type 2 fun! That looks like it would be a nightmare to ride in summer
nothing like riding on pointy marbles...nice job
"So many lines." Lol. Yeah, good ones and bad ones.
My favorite place to ride makes me wish I was back home right now
Sunset Sampler, indeed. So many of your rides turned into that, SS...so dark your camera didn't even like it.
Rad video. Dont you get sketched riding solo?
I mention that a little later in the vid that I wouldn't recommend someone that hasn't ridden there before do what I'm doing alone, but since I had ridden these trails before and new what I was getting into I felt confident and comfortable out there alone
You just gotta know what you can handle and don't play it too risky. And tell someone where you're going that day lol
@12:51 Knee pads down, jack WHAT??? lololololol
oh man, i popped my front tire out there! sick riding!
looks so gnarly. ill have to hit it next time im in vegas
Ah! I saw ya at your van from across the water basin when I was riding with my kid, if I realized it was you, we would have stopped by and said hi 🤦♂️☝️... My 8yo would have been stoked to get a high five. Maybe next time

My merch will ship global, give it a shot! The customer service is incredible. cognativemtb.com/pages/shipping-and-delivery
As the sun rises and warms up the air it causes the wind and the wind will continue to get worse until the temperatures level out and then start back up as the sun goes down.
Awesome video as always!!! How long was that climb?
Man that slow left turn down that rock slab waterfall looked narly if you got off balance and fell to the left.
Great riding dude.
Vegas has tons of gnarly trails all around.
This video should be called, "It's so loose, It's so windy"
I was riding Bootleg this morning. Cold and super windy. Going back tomorrow because it's not going to be windy...hopefully. I semi-jokingly describe Bootleg as nothing but giant boulders shaped like Chinese throwing stars. Crashing is NOT, an option.
What tires are you running?
Someone should make a mod for Fallout New Vegas that adds his bike and a skeleton next to one of these trails in the game lol. I'm glad you survived today though! That looked like a fun ride
Love that game
So hilarious you said that , definitely the vibe this area gives me!
Dude, this looks amazing! How did your tires hold up??
No a problem at all, though I do run DD casing with cush core
@@The_Sampler Necessities for these types of trails!
Great riding Alex, I miss Bootleg.
Definitely need a WINGMAN in those conditions
6:44 a quote by the 5th cop to hit it
The other thing that is gnarly is the Mojave Rattlers around bootleg. You definitely want to watch where you take a break or put your foot down to get a minute.
Heading out to the area this Novemeber, hopefully I get some better weather then you.
We need some pisgah action 🤙
I wonder if it was windy that day lol 😜
wow intense!
So good😎👍
For many sections of this I was questioning whether you were actually still on a trail or not.
I used to ride Bootleg fairly often when I lived in the area years ago. It is gnarly as shit and will eat you alive if crash. But also super fun! Ha!
Bad ass!
People need to get over the e bike thing, I was able to bring a friend who never rides out, throw him on my e mountain bike and we spent 5 hours cruising around riding trails. Man I didn't realize we sent people to MARS to ride bikes🤣
Those are the rocks I'd like least to fall onto.
What bike are u on ?
It's not a real sampler video unless he is racing sunset. love the vids.
you're crazy, my man! riding this alone is bonkers. One small mistake and you're left there and nobody to help you. Ufff
Ride up girlscout to mother connect across to POW then back up lazy man for another loop
74th view cmon
thats why hes the goat
Free Samples
I think I sliced a tire just watching.
You DO NOT want to fall at Bootleg.
how the hell do you ride loose rocks like that?!
Hello
obviously great riding as usual. Got to be honest though, not a spot for me.
