Great video! Subscribed! What would you suggest for someone who is just getting into cassettes. Not really sure if I’ll be doing any recording, so I don’t know if I would need a 3-head cassette. I love Naks, but I’ve heard you can’t get replacement parts for them, is that true? My budget is $300-$400, thanks for ANY advice!
@@VintageAudioTech I have used series parallel combination to get a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. I'm waiting to buy 2x Rythmik subs so that I could use my miniDSP SHD to do a 2 way crossover.
2:00 I might be able to buy a 580 for around 50 usd here in Sweden, is it worth it? I was wondering how easy it is to calibrate a tape before recording. I see on the front that there is a 400hz tone on/off? Is it continuous and you play it back? The bias adjustments on the fron, are those buttons or do you need a screwdriver or something? Great video btw, I would love a deeper demo of how to get good recordings on it? Even so I do have 2 3-head decks (Philips FC870 and a Pioneer Ct-s420) so I might just get the 580 amd enjoy my recordings 😊
i have a 680ZX and it works okay with regular maintenace by those years nakamichistill had a litle quality i even have a receiver with similar finishings that works but not as a pioneer that i own some that were never repaired and still work good with nakamichi that is impossible to happen ,50 years working perfect, they are for sure well engeniered but built with the cheapest materials and that was easy to see in 1982
Sshhh! Don't say such things, crazy rich dudes will jack up the prices of the 58x series too! I scored a 582 and 580, both need service and recap but no time for me. 😢 582 works fine but i see a residual about 100khz 15mv signal in one of the channels. My guess is that bias signal is leaking? 580 definitely needs new idler tire. Both need full recaps...
Nakamichi 👍🏻
I have the 581 and it has great sound for being all original except belt change one time. My wife asked what cd I was playing it sounded good.
Those 580,581,582 are great decks. Live music sounds outstanding on them
I just picked up a refurbished 580. It's an awesome looking machine. Performance is unreal. I've never heard my cassettes sound that good before.
I've owned one ( 1979 ) - after years it had problems with the drive robber ( belts ) - what a design ! I've loved it so much.
Is that Acoustic Alchemy's "Mr. Chow" on that sampler tape? Great song ..
Yes it certainly is!
These 480/580 series have the best stereo separation I've ever heard on a cassette deck.
They sound great!

I think a Nakamichi 480 or 580 would be a great choice.
Hey, btw! I have the same JVC speakers and the amp. I'm collecting those little speakers to make a line array. So far, i have 8 pairs.
i have jvc deck do y want to buy
Do you have all 8 speakers in line?

Love Nak's What is that tone generator for?

Do a video on that other Nakamichi, too!
Sounds Good 👌
Both PCBs are upside down? I guess great for reflowing joints... but hard to do anything else?
You can take the bottom cover off and have access. I will make a video explaining how to change the idler
@@VintageAudioTech Great! I kinda figured you can get the bottom off.
@VintageAudioTech oh please, I'm waiting!

I can’t certainly help restore those decks for you
@@VintageAudioTech no worries !
