I agree. I think I do live an intentional life unintentionally! I'm not even aware im doing it I've done it so long, through necessity in my earlier years, now it's a habit that's become a norm. A very powerful thing he said here is value one dollar (one pound for UK people) They all add up. Every minor one dollar decision can turn into something major. A major saving, or a major expense x
I don't blame my parents at all,, but I grew up in a very affluent household and (wrongly) automatically assumed that was my future. It didn't quite work out that way, so I've had to be a self-taught intentional spender. It was rather difficult and frustrating.
Always keep the postcards. Your travels will always be special and the postcards will remind you of that. They are the least expensive, most relevant, and over the decades, the most durable souvenirs. They record what that location looked like when you were there, and give you a reference when seeing places you know you visited, but changed over the years. Someday, they may come off the refrigerator, but they can stack neatly in a small box that contains the touchstones of your personal experiences.
I have to say this 1 thing about you Austin - you are the most creative person when comes to talk about money. You made so many videos and each one is totally different, yet still about the same - money and frugality. I don't know how are you doing this, but I'm excited every time and never bored.
Thanks! It's very hard to understand how people see my videos and ideas. I try hard to not be repetitive, but I also am walking a pretty narrow line in my niche. I'm happy to read what you said and it means a lot that you took the time to write it!!
I was raised poor that was the best thing that ever happened to me. I remember making money around 9 years old. I loved getting paid and counting that money.
It makes you appreciate things a lot more. I was thinking about doing a video about all the benefits that come from not being born in wealth because they are numerous!
I would be very interested in such a video and I guess a lot of other people with humble backgrounds as well. I see great potential here for offering an original new perspective on the advantages of having been raised under poor conditions (while everyone is aware of the disadvantages). If anyone can do it, it's you!
Me too. Born to a family of 8 My Dad been the only breadwinner Brought up in a difficult environment. That helped me immensely later in life Now living a very happy simple life Retired financially sound. Thank God for that
I love being frugal. For me, it is a carefree life; no anxieties or worries about money. When anxiety is taken out of the equation frugality is fun. A fun challenge with significant reward. Good vid, Agustin!
Keep the postcards if they bring you joy. If when you see them you think about the wonderful memories you have. If when you see the postcards you get anxious or think the postcards are clutter then take a picture of them and toss them.
Great video Austin…a great reminder that following a frugal life (after many years of over spending) is so free and liberating. Never too late…Thinking the 80/20 rule lol.
When I was in high school, my mom bought me Trax sneakers from Kmart. Trax we're junk. They did not hold up at all. I asked a high school friend about her Nike sneakers. She said they had been hers for 2 years. My Trax fell apart after 6 months. I found a pair for $24... slightly over twice what my mom had paid for my Trax. I told her about my friend's sneakers. She handed me the $24 and told me to get them. I wore them through college. I was a sophomore at the time. That is frugality. Scan the postcards and put them in an online photo album. Do with them what you want after that but not all on the fridge. Overkill makes their uniqueness limited. My husband and I pack lunch daily along with water from our sink. You need to see our emergency fund. It's getting huge!
I am also naturally frugal and have been for most of my almost 65 years . Recently I remembered that as a child I won a newspaper essay competition on the topic of “Thrift “ . I looked for the book I was given as a prize and read the inscription . It was from 1963 ! Obviously thrift /frugality is in my genes . However there’s always more to learn and I love your videos .Thank you
I am sure that you can find a more creative & esthetic way of displaying your postcards. And they don't all need to be in the same place -- or take a photo & place on digital frame. Maybe even a spiral stand-up, where ea day you flip to a different postcard.
I established a real budget that keeps me frugal. I saved every receipt.. for one year. I know how many bars of soap I buy. How many tubes of toothpaste, everything for my household expenses including utilities. I took the total divided it by 12 and got my monthly expense. And in regards to the refrigerator postcards.. just a suggestion.. how about making a collage on a vacant wall so you can smile and think back on all your memories and it will make more room for more Journeys and memories❤🏖🏝👍
Hey Austin, keep the postcards you can escape somewhere every day looking at them and if you want one from Dublin, Ireland I could send you one to your local library? so you don’t have to share your address. I live frugally aka intentionally, it’s certainly easier now that I’m older and don’t have to keep up with all the brand trends and I can say no to nights out now without major fomo. Using a zero based budget has really helped me in this regard as I’m intentionally saving for certain things. Met a tourist this week here from Chile and his name was Augustine so thought of you and used the couple of sentences that I had in Spanish to make him feel welcome on his travels. Anyway keep up the great work. 👍
I actually have a few Dublin postcards! Dublin was the first place I ever went outside my own country!! An amazing first place to travel as people were so friendly and helpful. I'll never forget trying to find the ferry to go to Wales and I asked this older couple in the street. They walked me in the bus station, spoke to the guy at the counter, and EVEN asked me if I had enough money for the ticket or they'd buy it!! Nicest people in the world!!
This video was top notch! Regarding the postcards, I think they are colourful and interesting but they can be a bit distracting (especially if some are crooked). My suggestion is to put them on a background (maybe a piece of bristol board) and put the board on the side of the fridge. That would 'frame' them and they would appear as a single unit. Ultimately, we aren't here to see your furnishings. If they cheer you up, keep them.
Hi Maureen, yes, I don't want Agustin to think I'm hating on his decor. I couldn't live with that distraction but he's not me and it is his apartment. He could come over to my place (anytime ♥️) and think no no no when he sees how I live lol. They are a bit distracting while he's talking about simplicity, but it's his home at the end of the day, and I'm a subscriber for life either way!
I never thought I'd feel this way, but frugality does give you a sense of security knowing that you can have what you need : and still save a little for the times when the unexpected happens. I do my best to remenber that saving is not one decision but a number of small decisions made daily. You have really had a positive influence on me.
Thank you for another useful video..appreciate how insightful you are for your age. I am much older than you, but get a lot of useful information from your work. 👍
Thanks for another encouraging video. I think you should do whatever you want with your postcards. If you like them where they are I think you should leave them there. I think that people should have better things to think about (hmmm, like maybe how they are spending their pennies) than where you keep your post cards.
I’m on stage 5 of frugality and looking forward to living in stage 6 soon. By the way, keep the postcards on the fridge if that’s what you want. If viewers are focusing on the décor they’re missing your valuable messages. Thanks for being you :-)
I just came back from a week of vacation and I wound up being quite frugal about it. I paid for the hotels at each location and my brother paid for most of the food and some of the gas. I also had meals with family and some treated us for meals as well.
I would put your postcards in an album because to have kept them means you have a sentimental value for them. This will remove what appears to be clutter in your space and I would put the album in a spot you like.
Other people dont like this things because of they afraid of discrimination of others people but for me know your beginning in the end of mind and be happy we are similar agustin..
Regarding the postcards... It's your space that you share with us. I don't think anyone but you should decide what to do with them. Thanks for another great video!
Its your refrigerator and home. You put them up because you like them. Keep them up until you no longer want them up. If they distract others, it is their problem. I am sure they wouldn’t like someone coming into their home and telling them what they can have in it. Thanks for all the good advice. Maybe you could angle the camera away from the fridge if you want to please those people.
It’s funny because my mom and I were talking about us being more critical of others than ourselves. So often times for many - this might be the best start. Being honest about ourselves. I enjoy your videos!! Thank you
I love the postcard fridge, but do as you enjoy. I love the word "intentional". I don't call myself frugal, but an intentional spender. I also don't have a "budget", but a spending plan. I did not travel in my youth and now as I approach retirement, am saving intentionally and dramatically so that I can travel when I no longer am working a job. Keep up the good videos, you are a wise young man.
Another Agustin video! Thank you for encouraging me on my frugal journey. I've learned to be much more mindful of every penny I spend after watching your videos 🤗
I've been using YNAB for many years to manage the household budget and we've gone far with that... But there is always more to learn. I'm in a space of revaluating habits because even though I can afford some things, that doesn't necessarily mean it's best to buy them. You know? The idea of "Value $1" really spoke to me. It feels like a lot of the money that gets spent is smaller amounts and you have to be intentional about even the small purchases.
Yeah, lifestyle inflation can destroy you! It's all about a balance. It is interesting when you make a big purchase you lose sight of small amounts because you're already spending a lot.
They shouldn't 'go', they should just move to a different spot so that area don't look so cluttered. Move them to a bedroom or somewhere and make it a display so you can still see them. I love your videos. I live very frugally and love it.
I have watched all your videos but this is the best one yet. It gave me so much to think about. I’ve become so much more intentional with my money in the past year. I’ve started living a slower paced life and so much happier. Thank you
Personally I don't mind a bit of clutter so I would keep the postcards on the fridge. Honestly I've been to peoples houses where everyting is packed away with everything neat as a pin and it's a bit creepy haha. Keep up the good work!
Bravo!! Great roadmap for beginners and validation for frugal people who want to be able to be more generous and enjoy life more without stressing over money and comparison to others! ❤
Since we live much longer now, we had better be frugal or we may end up living poorly when we are old. Being overwhelmed with stuff makes our lives messy and complicated. So be mindful of our expenses and think small so we will buy smart.
Yet another neat discussion. I don't know how you keep coming with these ideas, thoughts and presentations but I hope you continue. I really love hearing your contribution to a healthy life. As for the postcards on your refrigerator - I think you should set your place up however you want. You're the one that has to look at it everyday - all day.
haha, thanks! I really appreciate you saying that! When you're trying to pay your bills doing this, you get hungry! I'm nowhere close to running out of ideas. I hope you continue to support the channel!!!
This was an excellent video, Austin. Thank you! Sometimes we need a refresher when we go a little off course! We need a rule book for gift giving, bc I’m totally confused about that. Thankfully, I stopped giving Christmas presents a long time ago due to modest single income and always giving to multiple people in one family…too much on one person. Now I just donate to charities, bc that is what Jesus would do. And I’m not even a practicing Christian, not even sure about anything but donating is good and it’s a nice time of year to do it.
I like the postcards. Good advice btw! An emergency fund is my next goal. I started investing this year before making sure I had enough spare cash and now have some cash-flow issues due to my self-employed lifestyle.
I love your content. ❤ Your videos keeps me on track in my own journey to frugality and intentional living. Btw.. I also love you tshirts! 😅 Pls send link on where to purchase them 😅
Hi from India, I started to live in a minimalist way from last six months. But still financial management is not upto the mark. But I will try to achieve the financial balance in my life. I know, that you are making videos on frugality is based on not only your experiences also a lot of researches. Thank you for your effort.
You make very enjoyable videos about a topic that's not always enjoyable. Thank you for helping me to learn to live a more frugal lifestyle and start getting my finances in order. I look forward to your videos! Also, if those postcards make you happy you keep them up and ignore any naysayers out there! Love your content. Thank you for what you do!
I love the postcards, but I think less is more, just like with life. Maybe you can showcase 2-3 at a time. Gotta have a little personality in your apartment! And it reminds us that frugal minimalism means you get to do fun things on occasion.
This is so appropriate for December when we make new resolutions for the year to come. After watching all of your videos and applying your tips on a daily basis, being frugal became second nature to me, THANKS A BILLION!!! By the way, your postcards are part of your journey.... why should they go?
I went back and compared the videos with and without the post cards and here's my thought. Keep only a select few of your absolute fav. Destinations post cards displayed beautifully on the fridge.and put the others in a coffee table album and that way you can switch them out any time and you have the best of both worlds.
I closed my credit card account and only use my savings . I budget for everything and purchase most items when they're on sale . I sold my big 4wD and purchased a small car and love watching minimalism utube videos. We all have way too much stuff ! And the POSTCARDS need to go ,or move to a hidden corner 😆😆😆
Great video Austin. I have been guilty of being judgmental in the past of other people when I still have a lot to work on myself. It’s easy to fall into this especially when discovering frugality and all of the benefits for the first time. The postcards should stay 😊
One of my habits is giving generous tips and paying for family and friends at restaurants. I need to stop overdoing it with tips and letting other people pay their own bill.
Thank you for validating my frugal lifestyle. I was raised this way by very frugal parents and grandparents. It has always been a good way to live.
I agree. I think I do live an intentional life unintentionally! I'm not even aware im doing it I've done it so long, through necessity in my earlier years, now it's a habit that's become a norm.

Hi Austin. The reason I enjoy your video site is that you speak the same financial language as me. We are birds of a feather.
Frugality is the best thing for our planet. It's not just about saving money; it's also about saving the planet and its resources.

I look forward to your videos! Also, if those postcards make you happy you keep them up and ignore any naysayers out there! Love your content. Thank you for what you do!
Thanks for watching!
I love the postcards, but I think less is more, just like with life. Maybe you can showcase 2-3 at a time. Gotta have a little personality in your apartment! And it reminds us that frugal minimalism means you get to do fun things on occasion.
Thank you for another great video! Keep them coming Austin! Keep the postcards 😁
Don't you worry!
Keep the postcards👍🏾
This is so appropriate for December when we make new resolutions for the year to come. After watching all of your videos and applying your tips on a daily basis, being frugal became second nature to me, THANKS A BILLION!!! By the way, your postcards are part of your journey.... why should they go?
It's fascinating to see everyone's input!
Love your videos! If you love your postcards keep them!
Gracias Agustín por este video !!! 🙏🏼♥️🥰
Is your home if you want to keep them then do so .if they don’t bother you then don’t remove them.is your home
I went back and compared the videos with and without the post cards and here's my thought. Keep only a select few of your absolute fav. Destinations post cards displayed beautifully on the fridge.and put the others in a coffee table album and that way you can switch them out any time and you have the best of both worlds.
Great stuff as always, Austin!
Thanks!!
We all have! It's just a part of being human!
One of my habits is giving generous tips and paying for family and friends at restaurants. I need to stop overdoing it with tips and letting other people pay their own bill.
Your right it all adds up and before you no it's a habit I have gotten so much with my money thinking twice before I spend thank you
It's amazing the power of small decisions!
El Augustin burgundy is your colour.
Thank you!
Thanks 🙏🏾
Post cards STAY! Because you enjoy having them there. Doesn’t matter what anyone else likes. Period!
Thanks Austin. You are a light on my path. Thank you for your brilliant content.
Thanks for watching!!
As always….👍👍
